  1. Kottaras and Green are doing everything they can to prove their AAA numbers were legit. The PCL factor is overblown for teams in the eastern part of the league. I agree though that your saying that's just the perception, even if it isn't reality. I think the other thing that hurts Gindl is that some here fail to curve numbers for age. Before he hit AA, people were comparing Khris Davis to Braun. That has died since he moved to an age appropriate level.
  2. The MLE's for a 741 OPS isn't below average, it's awful. Green had a difference in splits in AAA of over 300 points. The only way he isn't a platoon player in the majors is if he's one of the top 5 hitters in the game. Schafer's splits are almost as bad. I love Green, but he'll need to be paired with someone, not that this is such a bad thing. The fact that he kills righties is almost a positive. It's not like we need him to be the anchor of the line-up.
  3. He's 22. If he ever repeats a level a few times he'll finally play against players his age, and then you'll see the numbers you want. So players don't develop power after age 22, but Gamel has uncomparable power? This statement in flawed and contradictary. Lets take a look at Mat Gamels 1st 3 pro seasons, which culminated in his age 22 season at BC. R+: 5 HR A: 17 HR A+: 9 HR I'm not seeing this massive power there. Mat's power didn't show until age 23, Gindl hasn't had an age 23 season yet. Now lets look at Gindl's 1st 3 pro seasons, all at the same level despite being 2 years younger. R+: 5 HR A: 13 HR A+: 17 HR Looks like Gindl has every bit as much power to me, despite being significantly younger. Now lets look at each players 1st stint in AAA. Gamel: 11 HR, 473 slugging % Gindl: 15 HR, 473 slugging % Looks like your "not even close " statement doesn't hold water, even if we ignore age, and Gindl clearly has the advatage when the numbers are curved for age. I kindly take major dispute with your numbers. Replace an 820 OPS RF? The league average OPS in RF is just 780. Of course, if you want Gindl to look really good versus his peers, move him to LF, where the average OPS is just 725. This is all before we get into a discussion of which players from this group is most likely to put up the highest OPS in the majors. If you curve their present numbers for age, it's clearly Gindl.
  4. I'll say McClendon and Wooten. Worried most about Fiers.
  5. Your reading way too much into small sample numbers. Gind has the best raw power of the group. He's improved at the most consistent rate of the group, and he blows away what the others did at this age. He has high ceiling tools, with a lightning quick bat, very good bat control, and a terrific eye. Unlike Green and Schafer, he's not a platoon player. Gindl is similar to Kirby Picket and Tony Gwynn in that he can produce a high OPS without high HR totals.
  6. So Caleb Gindl gets the shaft again? Besides Peralta, how many on that list will dominate AAA at age 22 like Gindl? Bradley was only average in college, and Lopez is a project. Thornburg is the same age as Gindl playing 2 levels lower. Gindl has been awesome the last 3 months. He has a higher OPS than Gamel since the all-star break.
  7. Why give up depth? Because starters impact your record more than back-ups do. Would Peralta and a good SS add up to more WAR than Marcum and a bad SS? I think so, plus we'd still have depth with Estrada and Fiers. A team needs to maximise it's assets. Marcum is a year away from leaving as a FA. Hopefully the SS we aquire is a long term solution.
  8. Melvin only said Jungman could make the majors this year because the writer asked him the same question 3 times. The writer wanted to write it, so Melvin went with it. Doug had no plans to put Jungman on a haphazard fast track.
  9. Do they plan on moving him full time to OF, or is he playing there because of a lack of bodies and a surplus of catchers? Obviously they need extra catchers in rookie ball with the extra work they give the pitchers on the side. IIRC, McMahan was 2nd string behind perhaps the best catcher in the NCAA and thus was a little under the radar. Unless he is a significant defensive liability, I'd like for them to keep him at C.In a recent pre-game interview (sorry, not archived), McMahan indicated that he is making the transition to the outfield. Helena broadcaster Steve Wendt could see why, it's a matter of getting Ben's cleanup-worthy RH-bat in the lineup every day. Hopefully they've found the next Eric Fryer
  10. To be fair, Green's AAA OPS is 157 points higher than Gamel posted at the same age.
  11. Why are we massively slashing payroll? They're doing awesome at the gate and are a contender. They won't settle for Gamel when Berkman is available. Berkman is better in the majors than Gamel is in AAA. After Berkman, Melvin will add veteran relievers. He always does.
  12. This might be the last piece needed for a World Series Title. Hope he gets a shot of at least being part of a soft platoon.
  13. Santiago is awful. He'll be 32 next year, has a 642 OPS, and a 651 career OPS. Why sign a 32 year old replacement player to start for 6 months plus the post season? Then next year we'll have to do this all over again, but we won't have Wolf or Marcum to deal for a real SS. Stop saying your option is "the smart thing", it's extremely condescending, and looks a little foolish when followed by Ramon Santiago.
  14. Lance Berkman has a slugging% 30 points higher than Fielder this year.
  15. I agree with everything your saying Greg, that's why I said I think they'll explore trading Marcum or Wold for a SS. I never said deal Peralta, I said he'll start for us. Finding a worthwhile SS to deal for is the hard part though, I guess.
  16. Berkman is not even considering retirement, as has stated so much. Why would he? He is completely healthy, has a 976 OPS, and will be looking at an 8 figure salary. If he signed with the Brewers he could pursue a ring. It might be smarter to sign Berkman than even pursue an extension with Prince. Berkman is a bad defensive OF, but play a pretty good 1B. It would be nice to improve defensively.
  17. Berman at 1B for me. Deal Gamel to the Dodgers for SS Justin Sellers. Gamel won't be a top 1B, but he's better than Loney. Sellers is decent and cheap.
  18. So the smart thing is to hide quality talent in case there's an injury while a bad SS hurts the team all six months of the season, plus possibly the post-season? Are you really saying the difference between the starts that may or may not be made by Estrada as the 6th starter and Fiers as the 7th starter will be cataclysmic in comparison to those made by Peralta as the 6th starter and Estrada as the 7th starter, and those results will eclipse any possible gains made by aquiring a quality SS? Peralta will already get 30some days of service time this year, and it only takes 172 days, not the full 183, to count as a full year. I don't see him staying the minors that long, especially when he could be dominant as a reliever. The Brewers have shown repeatedly that there not concerned with a pitcher being able to stretch out slowly to step into a starting role. Like it or not Peralta will be on next years Brewers in some capacity.
  19. Am I correct in thinking that Mark can work out and pitch in extended spring training during his suspension?
  20. I too was impressed with Arnett tonight. Not so much because of the results, but because of his stuff. Hitters were behind on his fastball all night, and consistently swung and missed at his slider. He attacked hitters aggressively and broke numerous bats. He's now using the 4th different delivery I've seen him with, though this is close to what he did at Indiana. This might even be a bit mechanically safer. He is back to looking strong yet lean again, not soft bodied like last year. He'll need to prove he can consistently repeat his delivery, but the the stuff is back that make him worth waiting for.
  21. Batting Farris 2nd or 3rd while real prospects bat 7th and 8th cost those players valuable at-bats. It's the equivilent of benching them. Hitting 5 spots too low has costed Green and Gindl about 16 AB's a month.
  22. The Brewers don't need to hold back Peralta as insurance. That's what Estrada is for. The Brewers love Peralta, and he'll open next season in the rotation. Marcum or Wolf will be dealt, likely for a real SS. My guess is it's Marcum.
  23. I'd be shocked if the organization went with Gamel at 1st. If Prince leaves, they'll add a vet at 1B. They've never shown any confidence in Gamel, and Mat hasn't been very reliable either.
  24. De La Cruz pitched a few days ago in a fairly close game. Looks like he's moved ahead of Dillard. I hope they make a move for Green after, he's earned it. I won't hold my breath, even though I think Green could be the final piece to this puzzle.
  25. You were proven wrong with your opinion of Jeffress, and yet you still come back with this non-sense again. Without Jeffress, we might not have Greinke. That would be devastating. Rogers could still have a huge impact with the Brewers, even if he is a career reliever. Dominant relievers have high trade value.
