  1. It's sad that Melvin favors experience over production, especially since the only time he's gone to the post season in Milwaukee was the year he had the rookie of the year.
  2. Davis is older than Caleb Gindl. I've seen people compare Davis to Braun, but when Braun was this far into his pro career he was already dominating MLB pitching. Nice find in round 7, but has some limitations.
  3. 1. Tyler Thornburg 2. Wily Peralta 3. Caleb Gindl : I wonder how good he'll be when he gets as old as Khris Davis? 4. Taylor Green 5. Mark Rogers 6. Cody Scarpetta 7. Santo Manzanillo: You can't fake velocity 8. Kyle Heckathorn 9. Logan Schafer: A rare defender in the Brewers system 10. Khris Davis
  4. Farris is already 25. His future is now, and he's not even a decent AAA player. If we didn't have Rickie, Green or Gennet would be the 2B of the future.
  5. I think the reason we haven't gotten a SS is because Melvin is chasing the biggest fish. In the meantime, he should add Carrol. If Melvin can get who he really wants in 2 weeks, Carrol would become the top back-up at almost every position for a team that is presently trying to contend with a terrible bench.
  6. I'd be interested in both players, but we'd need to make a real offer. The Padres value defense, they would have no interest in McGehee. Farris has no value, he's a bad AAA player.
  7. The Brewers should have added Jackson years ago, when he was dealt for Matt Joyce while Melvin was sleeping at the wheel. Now they should concentrate on the massive whole at SS that Melvin failed to address before the season.
  8. I doubt it would be anyone in AAA. PTBNL are usually guys from lower levels that teams need to further scout, or players recovering from injuries. I wish it could be Farris (but he's on the 40) just so Don Money wouldn't be able to give him a spot at the top of the order while the real prospects bat 7th. Over the course of a AAA season, that about 100 ABs.
  9. It seems obvious that K-Rod's vesting option and 10 team no-trade clause killed his trade value. Nobody wanted to aquire him to close. I'm not worried about who we give up, because we have nothing besides Thornburg, and the Mets would want to announce his addition immediately if he was an option.
  10. It's tough to find a perfect comp for Gindl, but to me the best one is Rich Becker. Both are short lefties who play all 3 OF spots. Both signed out of HS, and played each year at the same level with similar OPS. Becker was a little more of an OBA guy than Gindl, and Caleb has a little more power. Becker had a 731 OPS in his MLB career. IIRC, Becker struggled with injuries at times, in part because his conditioning possibly wasn't as good as it could have been. I think Gindl will be like Becker was at his best, as I expect Gindl will be a better conditioned player than Becker was in his prime years. Becker had an 807 OPS as a 24 year old in over 600 MLB ABs. He was 4 WAR that year. It was after that when his conditioning starting to effect his durability and performance.
  11. I'd rather rather get the more reliable Jamey Carrol from the Dodgers than Furcal.
  12. Seriously? Are you suggesting we give up 5 years of Gamel for a few months of a good Shortstop? He didn't say a free agent to be shortstop. He didn't even say MLB shortstop. We have long-term needs there. Exactly, plus it's stretch to say we get 5 years of playing time out of Gamel. He's been incredibly unreliable. I doubt that changes. I think he can be a decent hitter, but I'd love deal him for help now and next year and then add an undervalued 1B or OF next offseason if we need one. Don't forget Gamel is already 26, he'll be past his prime in a few short years.
  13. I think your reading it right, Ash wanted to say something but just isn't a very good PR guy. It was part of the reason he was extremely unpoplular when he was in charge in Toronto. Interesting that they claim Arnett is throwing mid-90s now. He was throwing complete puss the multitude of times I saw him at Fox Cities stadium last year, nothing like I saw from him in college. I think they're exagerating, or he'd be having more success. More only explanation for him as that he found "an edge" his junior year in college. One that's heavily tested for in the minors.
  14. We are obviously either not watching the same guy (Betancourt), or you haven't seen too many shortstops. I can name two in the same division who are worse defensively just this year than Betancourt, one of whom is an All Star (Starlin Castro). The other is Ryan Theriot. Theriot has really lost range, he's as bad as Yuni now, but not worse. Castro can get to balls the other 2 can only dream of. Castro is a little rough around the edges, but he's a huge upgrade compared to the other 2. Theriot and Betancourt have range limitations rarely seen in MLB. They're epically bad.
  15. Hopefully Fiers, with him also getting a promotion.
  16. Gamel getting the start again. Hope he's productive and forces their hand. While Gamel hasn't been playing 3rd, he said he felt more comfortable there after Weeks helped him with his footwork in Spring Training. If this is the case, what in the heck has Don Money been doing the last 3 years? Don Money is 1 of the many problems in this organization, he needs to go. Also, if Gamel can steal away 3B, I hope they let him play fulltime. Let McGehee go to AAA and try to find himself. Gamel doesn't need a platoon partner.
  17. I'll never understand what happened to Eric Arnett the day he stepped off the Indiana campus. The player he was there isn't the player we have here. Doesn't the state of Wisconsin have a no lemon law?
  18. This is the quickest I've hated a Brewers manager since Davey Lopes.
  19. Doug Melvin, unlike most of the members of Brewerfan, was convinced McGehee was really good. In his confused mind, we had a great 3B. Like Logan said, there was no reason to move Lawrie off 2B. A great hitter at 2B is more valuable than a great hitter at 3B. Lawrie will fit well at 2B, 3B, LF and RF. It wouldn't surprise me if he moved around during his career to best fit his teams needs, much like Paul Molitor or Pete Rose. As for the trade itself, Melvin knows his leesh is getting short, and he needs to win now. He's getting 2 years of a really good pitcher, so as much as I like Lawrie and hated the deal, at least he filled the need he wanted to fill with a really good pitcher.
  20. Long term benefits? We cut Evan Frederickson and traded Cutter Dykstra for Morgan. Morgan is a great stop gap, but we paid roughly $2 million to sign those 2 picks, plus gave up 3 prospects to get Linebrink, one of the prospects (Joe Thatcher)was better than Linebrink. The part that made that deal bad was the Brewers scout who reported that Linebrink still had his best stuff. He didn't. Bad work by that scout. In all the deal was maybe neutral. Sorry for taking this topic off topic. If someone wanted to delete all Melvin comments, especially my own, I wouldn't be offended.
  21. The system would be extremely strong right now if it had all the prospects Melvin traded away this past offseason. Lawrie and Odorizzi are potential superstars.
  22. Still absolutely no news on Jed Bradley negotiations? Meanwhile, CJ Cron has signed a week ago and as a 1.384 OPS with 2 HRs in 4 games. Just saying. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. While this is mostly true, it does have to be stated that if the Brewers had Jon Jay as their 4th OF and the Cards had Kotsay as their 4th OF, the Brewers would have a 2 game lead instead of being 1 game back. Most back-up positions are inconsequential, but 4th OFs usually get at least 250 ABs a year, so their as valuable as 1/2 a starter.
  24. I'll put the Melvin bashing on hold and play along. Trade for Jamey Carrol. If Betancourt and Wilson aren't included in that deal, release both. I wouldn't even want them in AAA. Send down McGehee. Play Gamel at 3B. Release Kotsay. Promote Boggs and McClendon. Trade for a reserve 3b/OF who hits lefties well. Kind of like Mike Morse was a few years ago, that I wanted to aquire numerous times.
