  1. I assume what your trying to say is the Yankees are offering Igawa and want the Brewers to pay the difference in contracts , right? If thats right, and its the best offer we get, you take it, as we're paying the same amount of money either way. I hope we do better than that, though, because Igawa is a 29 year old mediocre AAA pitcher. I think we'll get better than that.
  2. Amaury Rivas demands our attention. He's got the best change-up in the FSL according to BA, plus he pitches in the low 90s. He's been phenomanol since the FSL All-Star break.
  3. Amaury Rivas is a definate. He's a better pitcher than Jones right now, just as he was when they were both in BC earlier this year. I think John Axford could also get a spot. I'll pass on Chris Cody, the upside just isn't there. I don't see anyone selecting a guy who throws 84 in the rule 5.
  4. Field of Dreams is pointless, but I like the Costner movie "For love of the Game". Realistic is more interesting. I wish Mr. 3000 would have got its due considering its good, and its the Brewers.
  5. I like it. We could stil sign Counsel in the offseason. Lopez would also work, but we'll likely get a comp pick for him, so Counsel might make more sense. It would also make sense for the Sox to go get a 3B and move Beckham back to 2B, if theres any available.
  6. 2 pitchers returned from TJ surgery, Brae Wright and Josh Romanski, could factor in too. I'm guessing Hand stays in AA as a 6th starter for depth, and to make more room for minor FA reclamation projects in AAA. What TheCrew is showing us is an organization improvement in pitching prospects. At this point I'd like to see him developed as a reliever, and rushed to the big leagues. The sooner he's on the 40 man roster, the better, but make him earn it.
  7. It cool to see the Brewers rank high in rounds 1-10. Its the more efficient area of the draft to spend money. I think the Crew would finish near the bottom in rounds 11-50, as there is numerous teams that spent as much on 1 player as the Crew spent on Howell and Gennett combined. The O's signed 11th rounder Michael Ohlman, who was linked to the Brewers for $995, 000, and spent $999, 000 on a HS pitcher that didn't make BAs top 200. However, that not exactly spending money wisely. The Brewers landed 8 of BAs top 200, icluding #18(Arnett), 28(Heckathorn), and 39(Davis), and did it with only 1 signing that would be a bit of a gamble compared to price (Brooks Hall). Very nice work by Sied and company. I'm more excited for this group than I was last year at this time for the 2008 group. Its amazing a team like the Mets spent the least. There about to become the new Orioles.
  8. We'd be dramtically different with Jason Marquis. Also, we could have just traded Hart for Edwin Jackson and scrubs for Josh Willingham. We'd then be good, and under budget. Melvin is way too far into his tenue to be judged by the moves he makes. he needs to start being judged by his awful W/L record.
  9. The deadline to be in AA for the AFL (without using an exemtion) was July 31st in the past. Definately a suprising promotion, but so was Braun's promotion to AA in 2006. The Brewers were right with that one, hopefully there right here too. I has said earlier in the year that I thought Lawrie would finish the year in AA, but I thought that would happen after 900ish OPS at Wisconsin, which didn't happen. Edit: I'm guessing Lawrie's promotion will be followed by a Shane Justis promotion to Nashville?
  10. The Brewers. The flop of JJ Hardy is still unreal. The Mets injury issues were predictable, because there an old team. The Cubs were expected to take a step back because of there terrible offseason. They've actually overachieved because of the emergence/luck of Randy Wells.
  11. I can agree with that, but you can't deny the Mench/Nelson Cruz deal was atrocious, both short term and long term. Hart was better than Mench back then, heck, Cruz was as good as Mench.
  12. I concur with Colbyjack, Dan Merklinger is an intriguing guy. Above average velocity for a lefty, and big K totals. He was pitching injured last season, and dealt with injury again this year, but is finally well and is making his move. I'm guessing he'll be part of the most interesting Huntesville rotation in a long time next year.
  13. I just realized that Brooks Hall was our only HS pitcher to sign this year. Coincidence, or change in philosophy?
  14. I hope you completely overhaul is workout routine, and concentrate solely on flexibility and core training. His injuries are ruining a very promising career. Back problems are especially scary for baseball players. Greater flexibility would also help him defensively, though fully acknowledge he is progressing nicely in that area. Comments by Doney Money need to be taken in context of what type of personality he is.
  15. Carlos Corporan is starting ar catcher for the 3rd straight game. Looks like Fragile Salome is injured again.
  16. Just thought I'd put it here for anyone who missed it, Melvin told Bill and Brian during the game thursday that he was in attendance for Arnett's last game. he said Arnett was consistently 93-95 with his fastball, but threw very few breaking balls. I'm guessing thats at the direction, to protect his arm after a heavey workload this year. Also, the Brewers have signed just 4 players from the draft so far that are 6"4" or taller, so it doesn't look like they're being overly rigid with scouting pitchers. Top 10 picks Hiram Borgos and Jon Pokorney are just 6' and 6'2", respectively. We drafted pitchers of most shapes, sizes, and experience levels.
  17. Decker's age is irrelivent when compared to another member of the same graduating class. Decker is far more polished at the plate, but he needs to be a better hitter, as he'll always be just a corner OF. They're both outstanding prospects.
  18. No worries. The squad in Wisconsin won't look much like this one. It will have a completely different OF, with Davis, Richardson, and Davis. It will have Arnett and Heckathorm pitching major innings. Those 2 things alone will make a major difference. The pitching staff in Wisconson will be far more exciting than the one their this year, and this years was pretty good.
  19. When acquiring young pitching, its difficult to know what your getting, but some teams have made awesome moves acquiring young pitching without giving up major talent. The Tigers traded OF Matt Joyce for Edwin Jackson this past offseason. A couple of years ago the Braves traded Edgar Renteria for Jair Juhhjens. We could get some outstanding pitching, but we'll need to scout well.
  20. The Reds have disputed the reports that Harang and arroyo are even available. We're not getting Harang for Hall. The Reds will either ask us to pay all of Hall contract and give us a fringe prospect, or they'll offer a bad contract like Willy Tavares or Mike Lincoln, and ask us to pay the difference. I have no use for those 2 players, but I'll take a fringe prospect.
  21. historically, the trade value of a player with 2 years of control is way more than players with just 1 year. Also, this puts the Brewers in a leverage situation where they don't have to trade him.
  22. Crap, now we get stuck watching Burns tomorrow. Can't we find someone interesting to start tomorrow?
  23. What was Z supposed to do, pass on Braun or Fielder to take a lesser pitcher? He hasn't made a 1st round mistake since Jones in 2001, and thats only because Jones got hurt. Your forgetting that Melvin traded 3 of Z's picks, including a 1st rounder, to get CC. Without that we'd have 0 good seasons in the Melvin era. Z provided 4 All-stars plus Weeks, along with 2/5ths of our rotation including an Ace caliber pitcher in Gallardo, who did better than that since 2000? Only 2 teams have produced alot of home grown pitchers from the draft, San Fran and Minnesota. The years Minnesota hit on pitchers they had a slew of extra picks, and also completely whiffed on pitchers too. San Fran looks great because of Lincecom, and they picked ahead of us that year. Some teams get pitching from Latin America, but it was Melvins decision to close our academy their and use that money for our major league payroll, where he has consistently wasted money on bad pitching. When you consider Melvin could have traded Cory Hart for Greinke mid-season last year or for Edwin Jackson this past offseason, the blame of our lack of pitching falls squarely on the shoulders of Melvin.
  24. TH reporting that Arizona has offered Davis a 1 year extension. I'm guessing if he turns it down the D-Backs will trade him.
