  1. Only for the right pitcher. Halladay would work. Otherwise, I'd rather deal other prospects for a pitcher.
  2. Haha, thats what I was alluding too.
  3. Are we slashing payroll? You gotta jump out of the 90s man. We're not a bottom feeder anymore. I'm thinking a great place to invest that $10 million would be in a proven SS thats a few wins better than Escobar, and wouldn't require a multi-year contract.
  4. I'm not sure why you say this. Our record in games not pitched by Parra this year is outstanding, plus Parra might have his issues solved. Hallday would be a huge addition, and Gamel is likely better than any Casey Blake type addition.
  5. So Hardy's swing has changed in a way that causes him to consistently hit into bad luck? He has hit well, his results just don't show it. Do you think we should punt every player that has an unlucky half season? If the pitching doesn't improve us enough to replace the downgrade at SS, how are we better? Wins is based on the differential between Runs Scored and Runs Allowed, theres no magical threshold you can meet in either category that creates wins. So he doesn't get on base or hit with power, but he's good? He's good at what? He's potentially good someday, but we're not there yet. His present MLEs make him a well below average offensive MLB SS. If anything, thats below pedestrian. Why even consider putting a 765 OPS AAA hitter (655MLE) in the majors?
  6. No, we got another season out of an All-star caliber SS. Your aproach nets nothing for the 2010 season. The idea of trading a player before his biggest prime year makes it almost impossible to compete for the WS. When did BA become a useful stat? Hardy had a better OPS in AAA, and even if Escobar was as good a hitter, Hardy is a better hitter now than he was then. Hardy's poor rookie season is the perfect example of bringing a prospect up too early. Had Melvin waited until May to bring up Hardy, we'd control him through 2011. Which would have more projected value, having Escobar from 2010-2015, or having Escobar from 2011-2016. Its the latter, by a wide margin.
  7. Then don't deal him at all, and take the picks. He projects to be significantly better than Escobar next year. Let Escobar continue to develop, and he could be a real asset in his rookie year of 2011. If we're supposedly thinking big picture, thats a much better big picture.
  8. Is that what your projecting, that Hardy will continue to have almost unreal bad luck for the rest of the season? That doesn't seem like a good projection to me. Its much more likely that he'll have an OPS over 800 in the 2nd half.
  9. Caleb Gindl has been a real under-rated guy. He's played ar each level a year younger than Gamel did, yet has hit just as well. He isn't just a polished young guy with limited upside either. His has excellent batspeed, and hasn't even filled out yet physically. he's still pretty small in the upper body. He isn't like Brad Nelson, who was full grown in A ball. He is a legit prospect that profiles as an above average hitter as a MLB RF, who will also be an asset defensively and as a baserunner. Sure, I'd like more power hitting OF prospects, but we at least have 1.
  10. If we're going to roll the dice, I'd rather give an oppurtunity to Chris Cody, who is as good or better at AAA than those 2, and he's free.
  11. Escobar can play in the majors right now, but the difference in OPS you'd expect between the 2 going forward this year is over 100 points. Thats a serious downgrade. If we could call up the 26 year old version of Escobar, I'd be all for it, but right now he's a pedestrian AAA hitter. Washburn is having a career year, but do you think he's suddenly developed into a stud at age 34 after 3 straight seasons of slightly below average pitching? If you project his ERA going forward, you project him at his career norm mid 4 ERA, which is real similar, maybe slightly better, to what we already have. Bedard, if healthy, is a stud, but his impact, like I said, is negated by the downgrade at SS. If the Mariners fall out of the race, then I'm interested in aquiring him for prospects. It doesn't make much sense to aquire 2 starting pitchers. It would be more efficient to just get 1.
  12. Adding to the concerns of his inactivity is the fact the he uncharacteristically struggled in his last couple of outings, which is a pretty common precursor to injury.
  13. Welcome aboard Cat Ferret. Any 1st hand accounts are appreciated immensely.
  14. I don't see the sense in making us worse at 1 position to make us better at another. Contenders trade prospects to get better, they don't trade cornerstone players.
  15. Homer Bailey continues to wet the bed at the big league level. What a waste of velocity.
  16. True, but those guys shouldn't lead off either. A good offensive player should be given the spot in the order that gets the most ABs.
  17. I know he said that, but I don't know how legit that is. BAs pre-draft scouting report had him in the mid 80s, just like he is now. Until he proves he can physically handle being stretched out, he should not be considered our top pitching prospect. I do think he could pitch in the majors right now though.
  18. We have guys with huge, highest of high ceiling talent, but they also have very low floors. Butler is the closest guy to the majors, and his has mid-rotation ability. I guess Chris Cody fits there too, I have no idea what to make of him. People continue to be fascinated with Anundsen, but I guess many here used to try to compare Inman to Gallardo too, just by going on stats alone and ignoring stuff. That hasn't worked out, and Anundsen becoming an average MLB pitcher with no velocity is a just as huge of projection. He's a long shot, despite his FSL results. Yusmeiro Petit dominated the FSL too, with huge K totals and no HRs allowed, but didn't post the same results in the upper minors and isn't good enough to hold a MLB job. His stuff is pretty similar to Anundsen's.
  19. What about the runners he's trying to drive in? The equation that figures Runs Scored using OBA and Slugging % doesn't even need to know stolen bases to be accurate, that how inconsequential they are.
  20. Slugging % matters too though, even in the leadoff spot, because he's only the leadoffman in the 1st. The rest of the game he's a hitter. You just can't give the most ABs to the worst hitter.
  21. I can't believe Kendall is batting leadoff again, especially since Counsell is also in the lineup tonight. I'm colossally disappointed in Macha as our manager. I'm in shock. Can't Randolph or Sveam talk some sense into him. This is the direction we take coming out of the break?
  22. The Sox are trying to move Lugo to open a roster spot. Trading Lugo for Hall doesn't accomplish that.
  23. Thats fine. If he slumps, McGehee and Gamel will play more. They should play more either way. Gamels numbers are held down by his numerous PH ABs. Gamel's OPS, when he starts at 3B, is .901! The fact that he will play a bigger role in the 2nd half is another reason this team is a serious contender.
  24. That deal gives up on this season. We need something that improves us this year and next without downgrading other positions. We trade surplus prospects, not big leaguers, to get better. . Sure, Parra was bad in 14 starts so far this year, but Buchholz was equally as bad in 15 starts last year. Parra looks like he might have things fixxed with a couple of mechanical tweaks. Parra, unlike Buchholz, has a career MLB ERA under 5. If Bucholz in an upgrade, that improvement is wasted by the downgrade at SS. This team has an amazing 6 relievers with ERAs under 3, and Villy gives us a 7th guy who's capable when right. We have minor league relievers who could fill the gap if needed. We don't need to trade for a reliever.
  25. Gerut had a higher OPS tlast year than every Brewer except Braun and Fielder, and he wasn't far behind them. He isn't useless, he just hasn't gotten an oppurtunity, and has been extremely mis-managed by Macha. As for streakiness, debating that is absolutely useless. season totals are the only thing that effects win totals. Theres no correction factor for streakiness, because it isn't nessecary.
