  1. His shoulder was examined by Lewis Yocum, LAA's team doctor. They have the 2 picks in front of us. If they don't pick him, to me that says he wasn't as comfortable with what he saw as he's saying.
  2. This draft has fallen almost perfectly for the Brewers. Lots of tough sign guys off the board. Now we just need Cleveland to take Scheppers.
  3. I have never seen what the hype is about Mike Minor. He is very experienced, but doesn't dominate at all.
  4. I agree with the couple of posters above about sanchez being a huge reach. He can't hit a breaking ball. guess what Pittsburg, big league pitchers can throw their breaking balls for strikes. I predicted 2 catchers would be off the board before Milwaukee selects, thats looking safe right now. No catchers in this draft belong in the top 25.
  5. He has bat speed, strength, and hit 27 HRs this year. I think his power questions have been put to bed. Poythress lacks bat speed, so I'd be shocked if the Brewers selected him. Malm is really interested, but is not thought to be signable. Those are both Boras clients. The only time the Brewers ever selected a Boras client was Laporta, who was a senior, thus having no leverage. Oliver doesn't even throw a breaking ball, and Paxton got routinely knocked around this year, and might be too fragile for a big work load. Both are far more likely to be relievers than Arnett and Heckathorn. Heckethorn has 4 quality pitches, which gives him a very good chance to start. Theres just not a single reason to think Arnett won't start. Your going to need to explain that one.
  6. Scheppers shoulder issues were examined by Lewis Yocum, the shoulder expert, and Angels team doctor. The Angels select twice right in front of the Brewers. If they pas on Scheppers twice, thats a bad omen for his future. Cleveland is interested in him, hopefully they pull the trigger, which would dramatically increase our odds of getting Arnett.
  7. One of the Brewers scouts is an assistant coach on the Canadian Junior National team, so you know the Brewers got a real good look at this kid. Cool to see us finally playing with the big boys in the D.R.
  8. We did this last year, and I thought it was cool to look at after the fact. Here I go: #26 Eric Arnette RHP - Hey, I can dream #39 Kyle Heckathorn RHP - I have to get a closer look at a guy with this much power stuff, plus a good change-up #47 Marc Kraus RF/1B - lefty power hitter with great plate discipline, more athletic than he looks #73 Zack Von Rosenberg RHP - HS pitchers have slid the last few years, and this polished, athletic one falls in our lap #74 Robert Stock RHP - fresh arm with pretty good power stuff, along with very good command and composure #105 Jeremy Hazelbaker CF - 2 OFs from the MAC? (Kraus) He's among the nation's leaders in most categories, with good batspeed and great footspeed. Bonus: I'll throw in 1 more, as I'm still intrigued by the most power in the draft , Chris Dominquez 3B/RF the righty swinging Russel Branyan. Bonus 2: OK, I also have to throw in our favorite pitcher from The Canadian Junior National Team , Mike Monster. I'll say round 16, just like Stosh last year.
  9. I said earlier I couldn't see a scenario where Eric Arnette fell to the Brewers, so I guess I lack imagination. In BA's latest fantasy mock, they have the Brewers selecting Eric Arnette! In past years, Ive begged for Ryan Braun, I've begged for Brett Lawrie to make it to #16, and now I'm pleading for Arnette to last to # 26. I truely believe he's one of the top talents in the entire draft. The big obstacle will be him getting past Cleveland. Thats where he's ticketed in PGCC's latest mock. My hope is a team in the upper half picks a catcher, pushing a polished college arm to Cleveland like Mike Leake or Mike Minor, leaving Arnette for us. PGCC has us taking Jared Mitchell, another player I really like, and he would satisfy the desires of many for a leadoff hitter, as he's become extremely patient this year, and has awesome speed. He has some power now, and could develop alot more, and he is a lefthanded bat. He would be a nice consolation prize.
  10. I wonder, with the weather about to warm up in Wisconsin, if the Brewers are considering bringing up Odorizzi, and sending Nieves to Helena. It not a good idea to let a young pitcher continue to struggle like Nieves has.
  11. He's a Boras client, so evem if I could get past all the little injuries and the ERA over 5, you'd still have to deal with Boras. Paxton has amazing power stuff, but he's too risky for what his pricetag will be.
  12. Its not so much that I think they're looking to take a hitter, I just don't see a quality college starting pitcher available. I think the Brewers would wet themselves if they had a chance at Arnette, but I can't see a scenario where he's available. What college starter would they pick that will actually be available? Heckethorn would be the only intriging one, and he has some real questions. Now, every mock draft I see has either Tim Wheeler or Jared Mitchell available. In recent drafts, catcher and college relievers have been drafted higher than projected, HS pitchers have fallen, as have injured college pitchers. I'll predict Tony Sanchez and 1 more catcher will already have been picked by the time we pick. I think the Brewers will have some very interesting HS pitchers staring at them in the supplemental round, including Zack Von Rosenberg, Tyler Skaggs and Keyvius Sampson.
  13. Aviles career OPS is well above average at SS, and is better than Scutaro's. Aviles played injured this year, torpedoing his numbers. Scutaro was a sub 700 OPS guy the last 2 years, look for him to have a bad 2nd half, in fact his correction has been going on for weeks already.
  14. I think the difference between AA and AAA isn't quality, its style. Like JJHardy said, you have to face tough junlballers like DiFilice in AAA. In AA, you have more power arms. Clayton Kershaw and Chris Volstad were awesome in AA, and then went straight to the majors, and theres many more like that. I think AAA is a little better but not alot, but it provides a unique challenge that AA doesn't have, the crafty veteran pitcher, and the patient veteran hitter.
  15. He continues to improve, so how is he maxxed out? As for his body type, if lean, flexible, and athletic isn't a SS's body type, then what is? Heether tried bulking up once, and it lead to his only poor minor league season. Now he's as lean and agile as they come.
  16. His MLEs entering tonight are 301/377/474/851. His career mirrors lateblooming middle infielders like Mike Aviles and Jeff Keppinger. He's part of the Brewers future.
  17. You sure that wasn't me? I'm the one who's been beating the Adam Heether drum. Its mostly because of the simple reason that he's really good. His MLEs right now are 308/382/478/860. His career mirrors lateblooming middle infielders like Mike Aviles and Jeff Keppinger. I don't know why Hardy and Escobar are the only 2 guys that are allowed to be considered for the 2011 starting job. We don't even know who all the candidates could be.
  18. That might be what they're saying publically, because its believable, but Jonathon Mayo has said they were on Trout, Stassi, Borchering, and Davidson, and BA said in their recent mock that the Brewers were on all the athletic OFs. That group would obviously include Trout, and could also include Everett Williams, Tim Wheeler, Jared Mitchel, and possibly Reggie Williams as a 2-4 rounder. If they focus on pitching, I think that would be something they would do from round 5 on, like last year. I don't like Davidson at all, I prefer to win baseball games rather than HR derbies. And where will Davidson play? Its hard to call him a 3B, and that bat is way too risky to draft him as a 1B. If I had to draft a HS 1B, I'd pick Malm, not Davidson. I love Borchering, he reminds be of a caucasion Bobby Bonilla, but with better work ethic. Myers is very impressive too. If I picked Myers, it'd be as a 3B. I don't know if I can form an informed opinion on Trout. I think Everett Williams has great ability, he's actually a better hitter than Tate right now, but he doesn't defend like Tate. It scares me a little to hear his desire questioned, but it might be nothing. Sometimes guys are so smooth they don't look like there trying. Too low of ceiling for me. I think a better player will be available. There will be enough bad reaches from 3-25 to push a very good player to us.
  19. I see you have Wheeler to Milwaukee in your latest mock. I'd be very happy with that. Very good bat, and still has upside to do more. Have you heard rumors of him connected to Milwaukee? Also, I see you had Tate fall out of round 1. Is his asking price higher than the rumored $6 million?
  20. I agree with TheCrew07 about Dennis playing to shallow, especially a bad idea because he doesn't look too comfortable going back on the ball. The balls at him were smoked though. Peralta seemed to lose it after the very long mid-inning delay when the ball man broke his ankle. Frederickson's delivery looked out of whack from the last time I saw him. His arm was dragging through late, which makes it hard to get his power into his pitches. Lawrie also dropped a ball on a possible double play. He was given the out at 2nd, because the ump had a bad angle, but Lawrie never had the ball in his glove. Not much positive in last nights game.
  21. I'll answer my own question and add Brian Goodwin to that list.
  22. Katin isn't even the best offensive player on the team. Adam Heether has an OPS a full 100 points higher.
  23. Smith might be a better bullpen option than Burns, these 2 will be duking it out for 1 spot. Burns obviously jumped in front with his 1st outing, but Smith has some pretty sick AAA numbers so far this year. Toby touted the signing of Smith the day it happened, so I'll give props to him here. Good call.
  24. Adam Heether keeps pounding on the door. With a 3-3 night including 2 doubles, his OPS is back over 1.000
