  1. While I pointed out his poor MLE from last season, I don't think that should be taken too seriously. He played the entire season with a broken foot., which required offseason surgury. He then had a bum elbow to start this year. I'm concerned about his durability, but I don't think we've seen the best of his bat.
  2. I think I'm down with that, depending if theres still money left for a pitcher later. De Rosa will be a type A FA I would think, so we could get 2 comp picks back. The money part is the big issue. An Ace type pitcher will be more important in the playoffs than the 2B.
  3. Heether does play SS, and has no issues there. He's quicker than MaGehee. He's a better hitter than MaGehee. Heether worst offensive season was as good as MaGehee's best.
  4. The problem was Hall had owned Oswalt before last night. Heres another problem. Who starts at 3B versus Minnesota? They have 3 RHSP slated for the series. Gamel is going to DH. That leaves Hall or MaGehee for 3B. Both are good defensive 3Bs. Hall can't hit RHP, MaGehee couldn't even hit in the minors. With Hall in a slump, I'm guessing MaGehee gets the nod, both options are bad right now. Do you consider Gamel at 3B with Gerut at DH (or in the field with Hart, Cameron, and Braun getting time at DH)? I'd probably go with the better defensive lineup.
  5. Hopefully he will be on the Brewers bench before seasons end. He's better than MaGehee, and always has been. The Brewers seem to have finally taken notice, as his move to AA was so he could play, and now he's batting 3rd in AAA. I see no reason why he couldn't be the next Jeff Keppenger or Mike Aviles.
  6. I really like Gillespie as a 4th OF, but his MLE for last season was under 700.
  7. I disagree with Anundsen. Theres just not much there. The Brewers have never mentioned this kid. If they thought highly of him, they would of hyped his no-hitter to no end. And why the love for Efrain Nieves? He doesn't even belong on the list. He's a soft tosser with a loopy breaking pitch and poor production. I've seen him pitch twice this year, and I couldn't be less inspired. Josh Butler isn't in the top 55? Melvin just mentioned this week how impressive he's been. He's one of our top pitching prospects. Him and Nieves could switch spots. I due have to give big props for this though, great stuff: Media guide says Casey would have been a weatherman if not a baseabll player. But doesn't the Miller Park roof negate half that value?
  8. Games in May count just as much as games in September. Last year proves that every game counts. He's gotten ABs. Just because the couple of games they has where they didn't need a PH happened to be his 2nd and 3rd game here, you got your undies in a bundle. He gets to work with Willie Randolf and Dale Sveam here, don't discount that. He's not wasting away. Did this approach ruin Prince Fielder? That was they're plan all along. He's here for interleague play. The Weeks injury might change that, we'll see. They were ready to cut Nelson. If they call up Iribarren, then replace him with Gamel for interleague play, they can't recall Iribarren for Gamel after the Minnesota series. Iribarren would have had to stay in the minors 10 days. Considering Gamel is a better PH option than Nelson and iribarren, and we were starting a series for 1st place against the Cards, it made perfect sense to just call Gamel up a week early.
  9. Where did you figure stuff into the equation? Do you see alot of RHP in the majors throwing 85?
  10. We've both complained in the past about the Brewers being slow providing their affiliates with a full roster. Not anymore. They've been almost hyperactive with roster moves this year. Props to them.
  11. Thats just not true. He has a 1.3 WHIP and hasn't allowed a HR all year. He has a very good ground ball ratio. That will lead to a very good ERA, and it has. This guy has a true power sinker, and is a legit prospect because of it.
  12. And Gerut deserves this too. The guys was almost maimed by that leg injury he had earlier in his career. You can never have too many guys that truly appreciate the opportunity they're getting.
  13. They did have a very clear plan. They wanted to make their bench better and ease Gamel into the Majors before he DH's in interleague play. You can disagree with that plan, but the Brewers are too busy trying to win the WS to listen to such a trivial complaint. Also, the Brewers have found a major upgrade over Nelson. Jody Gerut's career MLB OPS is about the same as Nelson's career MILB OPS, and Gerut is a good defensive OF.
  14. Can I predict Adam Stern will get a much deserved promtion to AAA to replace Gwynn?
  15. I was hoping the writer would ask Burns the obvious question: "What are you doing different this year that has you pitching better than you've ever pitched?" Then I was hoping he'd say Mark Difilice taught him a cutter.
  16. Yostinfection wrote: Really? You're that high on him? I need to look at this guy's career stats a little bit more closely. His career OPS is 775, well above the average CF, and career UZR in CF says he plays that position very well.
  17. It just depends on if Cat looks like a better option than Iribarren.
  18. Gerut had an 845 OPS in 328 ABs last season. He is the back-up we need. He plays all 3 spots. His career was sidetracked by injury for a few years, but he's done some very nice things at times. The Padres could have picked up Gwynn on waivers, but now are just looking to cut slary. Gerut makes $1.7 million this year.
  19. Outstanding deal for the Brewers. Bad news for Chris Duffy
  20. He's already over-ranked at 22 IMO. Righties that throw 85 aren't real prospects. He's pitched great an opened eyes, but he's already at 18. Thats just a great job by the guys doing the rankings. Butler wasn't even ranked, so he'll be the biggest jump.
  21. Look at Halls spray chart versus LHP. He's a machine to RF. I agree with TLB and cwolf though, giving yourself up to move a runner over is something smart teams gave up as soon as they started understanding math. I guess Hall fits both worlds, as he gets hits to RF versus LHP.
  22. Now your making my argument for me. Nelson is way down on the depth chart, we have lots of better options, with more developing.
  23. Hall has not regressed in any way, shape, or form versus LHP, so his career numbers a very relative. Nope, its almost .400 versus LHP. That a huge difference. Maybe your talking about his overall numbers, but that still inaccurate, and why do we care what he did versus RHSP in an argument about where he could bat versus LHSP?
  24. Other than Josh Butler rocketing up the list, I doubt theres any big movers.
  25. Hall will definately play versus lefties, maybe 2B instead of 3B. However, Gamel isn't going to be better than the 900+OPS guy Hall is versus lefties is in the majors. Gamel splits in AAA are way small sample, he's been slightly worse versus lefties than righties in his career. Even if they are both similar offensively versus lefties, Hall should still play versus them, because he has a distentive edge over gamel defensively. I can understand the argument of Gamel playing fulltime because Hall should be the one platooning with Counsel at 2B, with MaGehee as a late inning defensive replacement at 3rd. However, if its going to be Counsel/MaGehee at 2B, then its gotta be Gamel/Hall at 3B.
