  1. Great Story! http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120830&content_id=37602820&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb
  2. Segura will be next years starting SS, Bianchi will be there but will have competition as backup/utility, Farris and another vet brought in. I would prefer Bianchi if the options are a Ransom or Izturis type. Logan Schafer is making a strong case for being next years 4th OF.
  3. When you look at his years here and some of the teams that took the field behind him, we ought to have a ceremony and retire his jersey!
  4. That would be a stunner if true, would rather have Bauer & Skaggs, but I too have a hard time seeing Arizona offering that, but an offer of Bauer and Upton for Yo? I would still pull that trigger.
  5. I like your thinking JB. The bullpen needs to be overhauled, I'd keep Ax and Parra, then let the past be prologue! See if we can bring back Hawkins and Saito, their contribution to last years success was greatly understated. Check out Takahashi, Adams, Howell, and Villanueva would be an excellent addition. A rotation of Yo, Fiers, Estrada, Rogers(?), plus an unknown. I really do not want Thornburg rushed, he needs some time in Nashville. Maybe Peralta, Francis or Correia would fit nicely, but if you really want to buy on the the low and maybe strike gold. He's in a contract year, is not doing too well. Carlos Zambrano. I can already hear heads exploding! When he's on, he's good and things are never boring when he's on the mound. Not advocating it, but looking at that list, one could do a LOT worse.
  6. Underperforming starters, injuries, some bad luck, some questionable manager calls, all played a part in the teams demise but, it was Melvin that put this group together and even he cannot be totally blamed.
  7. It's been rumored he also has a TV at home :laughing I wonder, is this the type of money Greinke is expecting? He will only get that type of payday if he goes to a high profile, high pressure, big market team. Isn't that what he has been trying avoid in order to control the anxiety issues?
  8. I think he actually meant to not imply offense. As in not offend. At least that's what I got out of the context. Thats what I meant. Ramirez has done exactly what he was brought on board for, but that salary does get ugly after this year. When your 45, thats young! In the scenario proposed, you'd have Braun, Schafer/Marte, Aoki, Green/Olt, SS?, Weeks, Gamel/Morris, Lucroy/Maldonado. Rotation of Gallardo, Fiers ,Estrada, ?, ?, and Axford and a bullpen that could not be worse than this years. Plus a boatload of pitching prospects. Maybe I'm seeing the glass half full. I would be interested in your take on the second wave failure endaround.
  9. OK maybe contend was too optimistic. However, it's painfully clear last year was the window. Now, we can continue to use the band-aid approach and overpay for free agents for an outside shot for post season play, no offense A-Ram, and listen to M&M fret about the teams payroll, or redevelop the farm system and have a continuing influx of MLB caliper players. Under pauls plan, yeah there would be some holes with question marks, but a "bad team" I don't think so, you still have an outstanding core to build around and hope for the future. But rickey is right, never gonna happen, gate receipts are more important than what's the best way to consistantly win.
  10. Agree 100% paul. I would speculate that would contend in 2013 with those changes.
  11. Exactly Paul! With Marcum,Wolf,K-Rod, and, in this scenario, Weeks salaries all off the books, you could make Greinke an outstanding offer and still field a team that would be threat to contend while cementing 3b for years. Can we get Prince to go to the Tigers GM and plead for them to trade for Rickie?
  12. I know many will conclude that this would be selling low however, with Weeks heating up many GMs would recognize that his first half was an aberration and he's returning to norm. Having said that, there is one team that appears to be searching for a second baseman. Detroit. Would a reunion with Prince be worth Nick Castellanos to the Tigers?
  13. I have to wonder, will St. Louis fans react the same way about Pujols leaving, that Cleveland did when Lebron left?
  14. I wonder if a Gamel/Jeffress/Merklinger for Garza offer would get it done? Not enough? Add in Parra. 2011 is the last year before this team has to reload. I'm resigned to the fact that Prince is going to leave and have a feeling Weeks will go with him. Hold on to Cain.
  15. endaround, I know what you mean by the comment. Look up Pavano's injuries and some of them are just plain strange. Maybe he's accident prone or maybe he wilted underneath the NY spotlight, thats what I was intending to convey, my apologies for not being more specific.
  16. Considering how next season is starting to look like, I need something to make me feel better. Still, Colon seemed to pitch rather well in a limited stint with the Sox and getting Pavano out of NY may work wonders for him. I guess we could see what Wes Obermueller is doing?
  17. Colon, Prior, Pavano, Martinez are the most interesting to me. Although, Prior seems to want to stay in San Diego and Martinez has made comments about resigning with the Mets. Colon and Pavano would be great buy low candidates with potential huge upsides.
  18. Exactly, it is this same situation that got him his huge contract. I was hoping that he would get to start in the series just to see if he can be clutch and keep us in this. If he does, I will not put him the "Jeffrey Hammonds" category.
  19. No, but resigning him this year will be. Also, I agree with you adambr on Suppan.
  20. Just some quick thoughts; 1. Sheets to Boston for Ellsbury, P Michael Bowden, and another player. 2. Weeks to the Orioles for Roberts 3. Fielder to the Angels for Santana and 3b Matt Brown
  21. Seth has been a nice surprise, I just hope Melvin doesn't jump the gun and give him a 2 year 6 mil contract just to "lock him up".
  22. More like "showcasing Sheets for Boston".
  23. Froot Loops, Honey Nut Cheerios, Frosted Flakes, Raisin Bran and my newest addition, Honey Bunches of Oates, which are really good if you add raisins.
  24. I use to have fun watching roosters fight when I was a kid. One would usually backdown within a minute or I'd break it up if it got too rough. Why do I feel a "you might be a redneck" joke is going to be directed at me!
  25. danzig, you should be applauded for having such concern for the little guy. It would be too easy to just look the other way on this one. Brettac is 100% right, there might be problems for him down the road unless someone steps up and helps him grow. Does he have any interest in sports? I've coached LL baseball five years now, and I can't count how many children I've seen go from shy and timid personalities to outgoing and confident individuals. I don't envy your position, but your doing the right thing.
