  1. Thanks, just spit 7-Up all over my screen!
  2. Congrats to Nate! Make the most of it young man, you're living the dream! You do realize the grittiness of this team just increased tenfold!!
  3. Nice sub-plot to the trade, can Jeter turn the Marlins around?
  4. That's the best case scenario, but here we are in late June and Nelson is not throwing off the mound yet. I don't think we will see him this year. I keep waiting to see the press release that Davies is being shut down for the year. Hope not, fully expecting it though. That leaves us with a rotation of Anderson, Chacin, Guerra, Suter and Peralta. With Woodruff and Burnes in queue. Not a jaw dropping rotation, but they get the job done. I wish 2017 Anderson would show up more, Chacin, has settled in nicely, Guerra has found his 2016 form, Suter just continues to amaze me with how he does it and Peralta has really impressed. I think DS will go out and pick up another starter, but I agree with you Thor and deGrom is going to cost a ton and hope he stays away as well.
  5. If the Marlins are smart, they just give Brinson a mulligan this year. Next year will be a better time frame to determine if he can be a productive player. Right now, he does look overwhelmed against big league pitching, but what are they playing for this year anyway? Nice article on Monte below. http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/mlb/miami-marlins/article213539884.html
  6. I would hope no one has "given up" on Santana. Just think he is a better starter than a bench player and want him to get regular AB's. The situation may resolve itself soon though, what's with Thames playing RF? Showcasing?
  7. Santana needs to be playing as much as possible, in Milwaukee or CS. Since he's the odd man out, send him down. Hopefully, he can go to CS and put up some video game stats and at least regain some trade value.
  8. To add another wrinkle to the Villar trade, the young man that was actually traded to Houston for Villar, Cy Sneed, tossed a nice game last night against CS and outside a blowup in early May has put up some good numbers this season.
  9. Reading some of the Red's message boards, there is quite a debate on Scooter. Some are wanting to capitalize by trading him and quite surprisingly, others are advocating to sign him long term and make him a cornerstone of the team. Scooter is a great story, local kid that comes home, plays for his childhood team and who most likely, will be the starting 2B for the NL at the All Star game. Books are written about people like him! However, the Reds must face reality, trading Scooter would be the best for them in the long run. As far as a reunion with the Brewers, it's not going to happen. The size of the crow DS would have to eat is California Condor size, give him away and then give up major assets to get him back. No way!
  10. How about a different angle, instead of prospects. Say Davies, Santana and/or Arcia for Machado? All three are still young and could immediately start for the O's? Just spitballing
  11. Can we just start calling him "Mr. Glass"?
  12. Watching the Reds-Dodgers game highlights, their 2b is a really good player!
  13. He made the Marlins roster to start the season, but was injured and hasn't come off the DL. He was their opening day RF after a strong spring, got hit by a pitch in the wrist in the opening series against the Cubs (he's currently on the 60 day DL to make roster space) and is expected back at the end of May. Orf update: He's now 22 for 45 in his last 10 games and is hitting .364 on the road. I don't care what level or where he's playing, those would be good numbers off a batting practice pitcher. Here's my favorite Orf stat: With RISP, he's 15 for 27 (.556) and has a line of .556/.588/.852 for an OPS of 1.4440, It's incredible that with the big club struggling to score runs almost every night that they can dismiss numbers like that. but...but... but... that's because he plays in Colorado Springs! I am so sick of that justification for not promoting Orf or Wren. If CS has that kind of effect why isn't Broxton batting .400? Oh that's right, you have to actually make contact first before the CS effect comes into play! There is no reason other than complete incompetence for keeping Orf or Wren down! Phillips should be playing everyday at CS. Wren is exactly the type of 4th outfielder teams should have off their bench. Can play all three positions, has speed and makes contact, but since he's not a "3TO" type of player that most posters here have man crushes for, we are left we pinch hitters who simply cannot put the ball in play and are usually walking back to the dugout with their head down after striking out and everyone complains about "missed opportunities". As far as Orf is concerned, your stats speak for themselves, he should have been the first one called up after the true Sogard showed himself. Instead, we get a steady diet of Perez, Franklin, and now, Saladino. For the record, despite himself, Villar should be starting everyday. I have heard all the excuses, it's CS, it's lack of experience, the stat guys pointing out every number that they can find to justify why these two are not good enough of being on the roster, it's a 40 man numbers thing. The best one was, "if they were so good, they should have been chosen during rule 5, and since they weren't they are just not worthy of being in the majors." The problem with Orf and Wren is they are just not "sexy" players. They are not going to human highlight reels, they are not going to hit tape measure home runs and nobody is going to buy a ticket to the game because they are playing. They are just the type of players that this team needs and to be honest, the type of players that the Cardinals always trot out and beat us over the head with. Both Orf and Wren don't "DESERVE" to be promoted, they have "EARNED" it!
  14. Exactly, both Orf and Wren should be included in that prediction. Neither will appear in a regular season game for the Brewers because they don't swing for the fences everytime they're at bat. Clearly, they do not fit in with this organizations profile of a productive major leaguer. Cooper was the Marlins opening day right fielder, went on the 60 day DL with a wrist injury shortly after.
  15. I wouldn't really call a .773 OPS at A+ and a .707 collective OPS at AA "exceeding expectations" for a guy that was 24, 25, and 26 years old at those levels. If Orf was in the majors at those ages like Franklin, Saladino, Sogard, etc., it's possible that he'd be at Ivan De Jesus status of toiling away in AAA and never expected to see the majors again for eternity (with nobody taking issue with it). Considering he wasn't even drafted, yeah I would say he has exceeded expectations!
  16. So I guess the only way Orf gets the call is if Saladino gets a hernia from lifting his suitcase. You know this has got to undercut Orf's confidence. All he has done is exceed expectations at every level and still gets ZERO respect. To perform like he has and still get passed over TWICE in favor of castoffs from other clubs is sickening!!
  17. Can't remember who said it, but they stated that Hiura has played 2B three times so far this year. All the other times he has been the DH. If his elbow is that sketchy, the Brewers need to go ahead and get it fixed and burn some playing time now instead of getting him to the majors then dealing with it. Wren and Orf? I'd feel a lot better with them on the bench, than Sogard and Perez!
  18. Villar and Arcia should be starting everyday barring injuries. Villar just to see if he is 2016 or 2017 version, if he's the 2017 version, just him cut at the end of the year and move on. Arcia is 23, we are just going to have to roll with him and see if the bat comes around. (New hitting coach?) As far as Sogard, while i'm sure he's a great guy and a positive for the clubhouse environment. He is bringing little to nothing on the field and CC's fascination with starting him is damaging the teams chances of winning. Bring up Orf, will he be the next Altuve, Pedroia or, dare I say it, Gennett? Probably not, but we will never know unless we try it!
  19. Listening to the Brew-Reds game last night, Marty Brennaman stated that LA is going to move Chris Taylor to SS and are shopping for an OF.
  20. Agreed, looking back at his 11 appearances this year, he had 2 blow ups and 1 so-so, other than those he was decent. The one time i saw him this year, 4/2 Cardinals, I thought he was very effective. Having said that, does he belong on the Brewers? No, this team has much better options, but some team like the Reds, Marlins or KC, he would be a huge upgrade over what they have now. So Oliver, thank you for your time here and thank you for your service to this country. Good Luck!
  21. Archer is doing great compared to Cobb.
  22. At the same time this post attempts to put light on the trade, it shows the negative to me in the trade. Rodgers is a year older, obviously collar bone fragile. His window is shorter and shorter too. Adding the guessed 90grade talent may be a year too late. And thats hopeful the return pick is top 15. This isnt TT's draft. We dont need to pile in 7+ picks next season when we have 12 this year. We reduced our draft dropping 4, and replacing a 3rd with a 5th. It's tiresome running out there a dozen late 4th rd-undrafted FAs to compete within the division drafting top 20s so often. Need top 60guys now, not next season. Exactly, they should have stayed put and had their pick of Edmunds or James. IMO neither will disappoint, not so sure about Alexander. I understand the need for CB, but Jackson and Oliver are still there, trade up in the 2nd for one of them. They will both be better pros then Alexander will be.
  23. Just my First Round take: Biggest winner: Bills, loved what they did. Other Winners: Giants, Broncos, Colts, Bears, Dolphins, Lions, Falcons Biggest loser: I did not believe the Browns could mess that up, but they did. They are spinning that Mayfield will be the next Favre and Ward over Chubb at 4? Other losers: Cardinals, Saints, Packers, (sorry!), Seahawks, Vikings. Split: Patriots and Ravens, liked both of their first picks, not the second ones. I can understand the reasoning behind every pick except those of the Seahawks, Saints, and of course the Browns. Not a Browns fan, but my goodness. Still trying to wrap my mind around the thought process there.
  24. While I understand the question, it's not going to happen and the window to trade him for meaningful prospects has closed. Any trade would be a bad contract for bad contract type deal and I don't see it happening. I always wondered if the Brewers could have voided his contract based on the fact that his usage of PEDs constituted fraud on his part?
