  1. That would be a colossal mistake. I'd rather sign someone who didn't make a team than waste clock time on Hader here. Two starts has what effect on his clock time? Garza will be off the DL in a little over a week. What's the alternative? Throwing Milone out there? Jungmann maybe. At least he'd be better than Milone. Hader has stuff to get major league hitters out. He'd be my choice at least until Garza is ready. Are you afraid he'll be really really good?
  2. Today was perfect example. With Guerra going on the DL, maybe Wren will get a call. They'll need a 40 man spot though.
  3. Villar is a baseball version of Jay Cutler who over his time in Chicago cost 2 GMs their jobs.
  4. It's the same kind of poor play he showed at SS and 3B last year and they just gave away the incumbent 2B for the past 3 1/2 years to open the spot for him so when he is directly responseble for giving away 3 runs in a game lost by two, people aren't going to be too happy.
  5. When it's brought up that the Brewers had the worst defense in the league last year, it was almost all on Villar. Has all the tools but his mental game is completely lacking.
  6. They waived the wrong 2nd baseman. Villar can't be hid anywhere. If they'd kept Gennett as a bench bat, they could have used him in the 8th.
  7. You are honestly defending a 20 million a year deal for a 35 year old catcher as gospel? Look a few hundred miles to the west and see how a deal like that to Joe Mauer has completely DERAILED the Minnesota Twins franchise. And could have been doubly bad had they given Morneau a "lifetime" type of deal too. On paper I don't disagree. But sometimes the right thing for your franchise goes beyond what's on paper. Mauer got what 10 years? This is 3 years. Totally different.
  8. Brewers didn't " flirt" with 100 losses at any time Lucroy wore a Brewer uniform. Your assertion is completely false. Cardinals finished 17 1/2 games behind Cubs last year. My point is Cards reaction isn't we can't possibly compete so let's deal off our best players for supposed payoff 5-6 years down the road. Brewers tossed in the towel after 2 bad months, one that took them out of playoffs in 2014, and the resulting hangover in the first month of 2015. You'd never see the Cardinals do that and then ask their fans for patience.
  9. 3 years and $60 million through his age 37 season. Notable in that he will make more than Braun from 18-20. Say what you want about the Cardinals and their insufferable fan base, but they never surrender and the term "rebuild" isn't in their vocabulary. To me that's the essence of sports. Meanwhile Brewer fans watch former heroes like Lucroy playing postseason baseball for the Rangers having made no effort to reward him for being a great Brewer. Soon the same fate may befall Braun who despite his flaws has been the most productive player in franchise history not named Yount. How refreshing for a team to value players for more than their worth as trade chips. Wish I could say the same about the Brewers.
  10. It's not Jungmann making the team ahead of him that has him and Scahill upset. It's Milone and Barnes. Both Cravy and Scahill not only performed well in Arizona, but last year with Brewers. I'm glad he popped off. It's time to take some shine off the Theo Epstein wannabe Stearns.
  11. I believe they got the right 5 guys in the rotation so if they want to stash Garza that's ok for the time being but after a month or two I would hope a Hader or another young arm would be a better option than trotting Garza out there in case of injury.
  12. My depth concerns start and end with Nieuwenhuis. I just think they could do better for a 4th OF/lone LH bat off bench. (Angel Pagan?). Sure he will have his moments, but when you need a good AB off the bench late, chances are he won't make contact. 13 pitchers is a luxury. They can't afford any weak links off the bench.
  13. Garza hurt? What's the point of keeping him around using a 40 man spot?
  14. What does height have to do with it? He's played a significant amount in CF over his career. Think Aoki. His plate discipline has shown marked improvement and that has resulted in increased production. Anyway just a thought.
  15. Looks like he's going to get 2-3 starts a week, replacing Thames on occasion vs. LHP, and when Thames goes to corner OF. But I tend to agree with you to an extent. They have a weaker bench today than they did before the release of Scooter, with Nieuwenhuis, who's a strikeout machine, as their lone LH bat off the bench. I'd have released Nieuwenhuis instead, and used Perez to back up Broxton.
  16. He didn't make the Orioles after being a rule 5 pick despite a decent spring after hitting a combined 330 between AA and AAA last year. With Scooter gone, and neither DeJesus or Sogard making the final roster, they could fit him in.
  17. Just because there was one report about the Rangers scouting Peralta doesn't mean there weren't other scouts from other teams that were at his last start. In fact, there were. I saw that game from the KC feed. The entire section behind home plate was full of scouts, and they were training their radar guns on Peralta when he threw and not Ian Kennedy who of course they weren't monitoring. Peralta was impressive that day as he has been much of spring. You can't simply give him away to the first team that offers.
  18. Looks like an all RH pen to me: Feliz, Knebel, Torres, Marinez, Cravy, Jungmann, Scahill. I think Milone sealed his fate today. If they go with a 13 man staff, it will mean Garza stays and either he or Anderson will be out of the pen. A real longshot that wouldn't shock me is if Jungmann grabs the 5th starter spot and both Garza and Anderson are in the pen.
  19. Peralta has a 17 win full season of 3.53 ERA to his credit. What exactly does Gallo have on his resume that makes anyone think he's any better than the guys they already have? You don't deal Peralta just to deal him. You wait for more than interest from one team that drives up his price.
  20. Reality is he has zero trade value now, and a first half similar to his second half last year will restore on only minimal value, maybe a couple million of salary relief and an obscure C or D level prospect. Is that worth him taking starts away from cheaper controllable arms? Not in my book.
  21. Would not surprise me one bit. I attended Sundays game and watched him pitch. He got tattooed as usual. I sat down the right field line by the bullpen. After his start he came down that way sulking. The bullpen coach lit into him about throwing more off speed pitches. Instead of listening Garza gave it right back to the bullpen coach and the two went up the tunnel to the clubhouse. 5 minutes later the bullpen coach came back and Garza didnt. That said, just eating the 12mil would look really bad for the organization. Why would that look bad? First Garza was signed by Melvin. Second, it's 12 million not 20 million. Third, the great Theo Epstein waived Edwin Jackson and ate nearly that much even while Jackson was doing OK out of the pen. Eating Garza's salary would make the organization look good. Garza hasn't performed and he's not the best clubhouse guy around.
  22. This one could come back to haunt them. Red's weren't the only team that would have claimed him. They had first shot. Stearns drove his value down by announcing Villar move. Villar was bad defensively at both SS and 3B so I get it but I'm not sure Villar will hit anywhere close to his 2016 numbers.
  23. Heineman's put up some decent numbers in the minors and could turn out to be more than AAA roster filler. Worth keeping an eye on.
  24. There's every reason to think Peralta is on the verge of regaining his 2014 form based on his finish to 2016 and his strong spring. Not surprised he's getting looks. Had the chance to see the game against KC on Saturday with my out of market Directv service. There must have been a half dozen guys behind home plate with radar guns trained on him and more scouts observing. It would be a major mistake to think the Brewers can get more value of Garza and unload Peralta who could actually increase his with a strong first half.
