  1. Relievers rarely stay at or near their peaks for more than 2-3 years and the market for quality relievers is extremely hot this year. So of all the trade-able Brewers, a team is more likely to significantly overpay for a Jeffress or a Smith than another Brewer. Even a journeyman like Torres could bring back a return of at least some value. That's why those guys are in play.
  2. Hill Torres Jeffress That's it. Luc and Braun stay put. There's a strong market for relievers. Brewers make a run at re - acquiring Hill this winter.
  3. Middlebrooks' road splits are nothing to get too excited about: .215/.250/.430. His opt out probably was a factor, but I don't see him being in much demand. More likely is there's trade interest in Hill and/or Carter and Middlebrooks will get a couple month look as a fill in. Wren is far more deserving of a call up.
  4. Free Kyle Wren! On base all 5 times. OBP now .506 at CS.
  5. No they don't. The Mariners don't have the pieces for Lucroy anyways. The only remotely interesting piece in this deal is Diaz. I don't know how you can dismiss O'Neill who's absolutely destroying Southern League pitching and who just turned 21 a week ago and who belted 32 HR last year albeit in the California League. He's 9 months younger than Corey Ray. O'Neill would immediately be a top 3 prospect for Brewers. Mariners have arms that while not at the top prospect level are plenty projectable as major leaguers. That includes Yarbrough and Dylan Unswerth. I doubt Mariners would give up Diaz and O'Neill though but I'd have a hard time passing on O'Neill, Zunino, and a couple of their starters in the 10-15 range on their prospect list.
  6. What's a college pitcher drafted in round 4 doing in AZ league anyway? Shouldn't he be in Helena? When I saw the game was called after 5, I thought "slaughter rule in pro baseball"? Guessing they knew weather was looming and wanted to get next pitcher work.
  7. Why lower your asking price? You set an asking price based on trying to get more than that players worth to your organization, not less. Getting less than he's worth to the Brewers isn't a way to build a contender. A lot of junk is still junk. Lucroy's a premier player. We have no idea if Stearns and Lucroy's agent have exchanged parameters for an extension. That too could be at play here. It's not they don't have room in the payroll, especially if Braun is dealt, they get somebody to take some of Garza's money, or even if they non tender the likes of Peralta and Anderson.
  8. Both Reed and Wren have OPS over .800 against LHP. While Broxton is the more pure CF, he does have 6 errors combined between Colorado Springs and Milwaukee. That's hardly gold glove defense. Might be time to switch out Broxton and Flores for Wren and Reed.
  9. Lets say Giants lost Duffy or Panik for extended period. I think Brewers could hold out for a Ty Blach who's not on Davies level but a back end rotation candidate in next year. All depends on the need factor. Hill's a solid veteran presence and would bring a lot to a contending team.
  10. Panik was taken out of Giant lineup with concussion symptoms, a delayed reaction to being hit in head about 10 days ago. With Duffy already on the DL and not producing to the level he was last year, and now an issue with Panik, it's worth monitoring the Giants as a possible landing spot for Hill.
  11. Kyle Wren is about 2 more hot weeks in AAA from forcing his way to Milwaukee. A roster spot (Wilkins?) will need to be created for him. 2nd coming of Podsednik??
  12. Yikes. Elmore: 19 Strikeouts, 26 Walks. Middlebrooks: 57 Strikeouts, 5 Walks Not about slugging, though Elmore is slugging .475 vs. LHP. It's about ability to provide a quality AB, move a runner, score one from 3rd with less than 2 outs and defensive versatility (Elmore has played LF, 3B and 2B). With Broxton a strikeout machine as a bench option most days, they needed a put it in play, work the count guy.
  13. They needed another RH bat off the bench, and apparently Santana will be out a while so Perez will be playing a lot of OF. Gives Counsell some maneuverability in the infield. Have to like Elmore's road splits at AAA: .329/.438/.425 and his .921 OPS vs. LHP.
  14. Was on track to a possible major league career until command issues did him in starting midseason last year. Really got worse in 2nd half of 2015 and continued this year. Sad to see.
  15. Blazek has a 4.39 ERA, a 5.10 FIP, and a 1.838 WHIP. He shouldn't be anywhere near a pressure situation. He's nearing DFA worthy status.
  16. Anybody else think they'd be better off with another lefty (Kirkman) in the mix? Kirkman's numbers at AAA have been decent and he's dominated LH bats. It kind of defeats the purpose of having 8 relievers if you can't do some mixing and matching.
  17. Arcia's road splits not good. Affected by playing home games at altitude?
  18. I suspect they'll go with 8 until Santana comes off the DL though there's a decent chance they'll just DFA Presley to make room for him. Might have to wait until some team calls on Torres or Boyer.
  19. How about Mariners as trade partners? They could surely use an upgrade at catcher and are also in need of a starter. Package Lucroy and Garza (Brewers pay half of his remaining salary) and see if you can get Tyler O'Neill, Dylan Unsworth and Mike Zunino back. O'Neill's tearing up Southern League and just turned 21. Unsworth was off to great start at AA but is now on the DL and Zunino is former very highly regarded catching prospect who Brewers could give a decent look at.
  20. I agree that Gallo is a risk, but his upside - that of a 35-40 HR guy - is pretty tantalizing. A power hitter like Gallo is someone this system really lacks, so it would be nice to have. Plus it would just be cool to watch the guy - you just never know when one would go out of the park. What team are you watching? 6 weeks prior to opening day, the Brewers had not one but two 35-40 HR guys, Davis and Carter. They traded Davis, but still have Carter, who's controllable through 2018 and is exactly the same kind of hitter.
  21. What makes you think he's on a run? His overall numbers this year are almost identical to his 6 starts last year. He's a solid middle of the rotation piece. Is he going to be a sub 3 ERA guy over a full season? Not likely but what's not to like about a controllable young arm who posts consistent ERA around 3.70? Davies is a tough cookie with a great makeup and should be a part of this team for the next 4-5 years minimum.
  22. I wish they had put him at Biloxi. It would have done him good to get out of the FSL. I don't think you can excuse a sub .600 OPS from a player who'll soon be 23 on the league he's playing in. It's A ball and he's repeating. He's a major disappointment. Can't think the new regime is going to stick with underperformers from previous regime too long.
  23. Hate to say it but Coulter and Meideros are looking like the b word. Meideros still has time but Coulter is no longer young for his classification and his regression this year is stunning.
  24. Well 27 year old Josmil Pinto is hitting .333/.385/.396 away from Colorado Springs and just turned 29 year old Manny Pina road splits are an even more impressive .322/.380/.544, yet they stick with Maldonado and his feeble offense as backup. Forget status or age, just give me someone that isn't hitting at the level of most pitchers to relieve whoever the starting catcher is.
