  1. I agree with monty57 that Gomez is the logical guy to hit 4th right now. It's not even close is it?
  2. This isn't an isolated incident with Weeks who underachieved well into 2012 also and has had many such slumps in his career. They are stuck with him through next year, but once Ramirez or Hart returns, it's time to start giving him time off during these slumps, in part to keep his 2015 contract worth $11.5 million from vesting. Gennett is raking though it's early for him too. Speaking of fans wanting changes made after 2-3 weeks, how much longer a leash before A-Gon, becomes A-Gone? When Bianchi's rehab runs out?
  3. I've never gotten the allure of that park. Seems to me it needs to be rebuilt virtually from the ground up. What is it with Chicago anyway? Soldier Field is falling down, so they build another stadium and leave up some ugly columns, and they now have the smallest capacity, a stadium without sufficient restrooms and no roof just so they can still call it Soldier Field? The White Sox were offered a sweet deal in Addison but chose to remain in an area that nobody wants to visit. When Rosemont offered free land to build a new park on, people reacted like Rosemont was in Montana even though for the vast majority of Cub fans, it would be much easier to get to than Wrigley and it's closer to downtown than O'hare. I wish the Cubs the same luck they've had in the old Wrigley.
  4. I don't understand it either. Morris was a very early cut in spring. Halton stuck around the entire spring and really did just as well as anyone they've played there. Halton's service time shouldn't be an issue should it? He's likely at best to be a nice utility guy at the major league level that can play corner OF and corner IF and hit. He makes more sense than playing catchers and backup middle infielders there.
  5. I'd give them Gonzalez in a heartbeat just for a little salary relief. Unfortunately the Brewers were the only team that thought Gonzalez had anything left coming off a serious injury at 36 to begin with and it's doubtful his .138 start, has convinced those skeptical teams they were wrong. Logically, Segura looks like an everyday player. If anyone needs some time off in the middle infield, it's Weeks. The need for a 2 day a week guy to ease Segura into the job, isn't pressing. Betancourt/Bianchi make a suitable set to back up.
  6. I agree with all comments on "we". We don't play and we don't manage or general manage. If they don't start winning some games, they will be so far buried that even the return of every injured player won't be enough. It's a mess right now. Weeks once again is being exposed leading the league in strikeouts and double plays hit into (that's quite the combo). How bad are Halton and Morris, that they go with the collection they have at 1B this season? Braun might not see a pitch to him between now and Memorial Day. His frustration is showing. Aside from Axford, Badenhop and Gonzalez have just been awful. Those guys were supposed to stabalize the pen. Yes, Lohse has been good so far, but no better than Carlos Villanueva who cost less than a third of Lohse's salary.
  7. The fervor with which this is being pursued makes me wonder if there wasn't more to the mishandling of the sample that got Braun in hot water to begin with. Could their tactic be to keep Braun's legal team busy with this nonsense rather than have them bring up issues in the original case, that heretofore we are not aware of? Braun in his statement way back in spring of 2012 did say there was more to this.
  8. Longo/Tulo/Braun were all high first round picks and sure things when they got to the majors. Segura's been a nice prospect but never quite in the class of those guys. He may turn out to be in their class, but let's wait until he's got a full season under his belt. Then by all means see if he can be locked up.
  9. Thankfully for him and the Dodgers, it's his non throwing shoulder. I would imagine he'll miss about 6 weeks. It might affect his hitting more than anything. I'm sure he'll be either taking or bunting the first few weeks back.
  10. Lets see. I'm a former employee of an outfit that sold illegal substances, and I get wind that there's money to be made by selling "documents"? Talk about easy money! All the guy would need to have would be some letter head from the firm. Any guy fresh out of law school would have a field day with this set of circumstances.
  11. Baseball is becoming more of a world game. There is one league where there is no DH used and that's the NL in the US. It's coming and sooner (within 5-6 years)rather than later (more than 10). It just doesn't make sense to continue to have 2 sets of rules, and the genie (DH) is already out of the bottle.
  12. It's very early but I get the feeling Nelson will not be in Huntsville for both halves of the year.
  13. He still has options. It's time to use one. Jesus Sanchez is on the 40 man. He'd be more useful than Axford at this point. When and if Axford gets it back, they will know.
  14. Positives: Axford has options. Starting pitching is deep if not great. I've posted before I thought Aoki could contend for a batting title. The Greinke for Segura trade may go down as one of the best ever. The injuries, particularly to the corner infielders, exposed the one of two areas where lack of depth would pose a problem. The other was corner OF. There's still plenty of time for them to realize accumulating shortstops is not the answer to that issue. I'm rooting for either Halton or Morris to get hot enough to force there way here.
  15. I agree. He couldn't bat with the game on the line (and no real PH available) and then less than 24 hours later he is okay to start? That is the deluding thinking of Ron Roenicke. If Roenicke had been managing the Dodgers in 1988, Kirk Gibson would have been a decoy. Speaking of that, did someone tell Weeks that Braun was just a decoy and it might be a good idea to swing the bat?
  16. The wind is howling out of the southwest down in Chicago area. Unfortunately when Estrada isn't striking guys out, he's giving up flyballs. Everyone should be doing rain dances though for the rest of the series. A few rainouts now are just what the Brewers need.
  17. The roster is poorly constructed, but that's due in large part to the timing of Gamel's injury. Of course the other huge mistake is deciding Gonzalez is the answer at 1B based on about 100 AB's a year ago. Assuming everyone returns, it's still a very good lineup, but right now it's pathetic. The question is can they win enough to stay afloat the next 2-3 weeks. They are going to get the game in today it looks like but I'm doing rain dances for the rest of this series. Lohse's late arrival sort of upset the apple cart in the pitching staff. On the one hand they gave in to sign him but on the other, they still wanted to let Fiers and Peralta pitch in the rotation. They can't have it both ways. Either be committed to less experience or don't be. Lohse's signing should have relegated one of those two to Nashville.
  18. Looking at his career stats he has to have incriminating pictures of Mark A. or Melvin to stay with the organization for so long. He's got good baseball bloodlines. Might have designs on managing/coaching. Those are good guys to have as role players.
  19. I've got another idea. Why not just option Fiers, and put Narveson in his spot? We all saw the downside of carrying 13 pitchers this week.
  20. Here's the Brewer roster conundrum. The guys in the pen who aren't doing the job all are the guys with the biggest contacts/lack of options. The 2 everyday players at Nashville who are on the 40 man are Gindl who's 0 for 15, and Gennett who is raking but plays the one position the Brewers are healthy. Still they sure could use Gennett's bat off the bench. I'd send down Fiers, insert Narveson in his spot and bring up Scooter. The other option is to try and get a guy like Manzanillo through waivers and off the 40 man and bring up either Halton or Morris.
  21. These little injuries that Braun gets every year concern me more than the others. What's with this guy? Could it be PED's? It's injuries like this one that made me think Fielder was the MVP in 2011. Braun isn't helping his team when he sits out 10 games every year. Guys on his level need to be in there every day. He hurts himself swinging a bat in BP? Geesh!
  22. The Brewers are waiting for either Fiers or Peralta to pitch their way out of the rotation. That's when they'll go back to 12 with Narveson taking their place. Good signs at AAA too with fine starts by Thornburg and Burgos too.
