  1. "Murton...plays OK defense." Actually he's a butcher in the field.
  2. Hasn't that ship sailed? I think a key move (and Melvin even mentioned it on WTMJ yesterday) will be bringing Gabe Gross back after he has 60 or so AB's in Nashville. He's got 5 hits down there in his last two games, and I think if he gets rolling there, he's going to see a lot more PT in Milwaukee when he gets back.
  3. "the Nats just extended Belliard's contract". I just saw that today. My bad. Now with Utley out for a while the bidding on any decent 2B might be a bit too rich.
  4. Johnny Estrada says in Atlanta "they won 14 straight championships. We could lose 8 straight and you'd get the same response: No big deal". Johnny, Johnny, Johnny, please. Everything involving all sports in Atlanta is "No big deal" It's the most blase town about sports in the country with the possible exception of that other place you played: Phoenix. Milwaukee is not Atlanta. Milwaukee has passion for it's teams. What you're interpreting as panic is passion. Too bad you don't show a little yourself. Maybe fans wouldn't be all over you.
  5. Weeks unfortunately has just showed brief glimpses of himself an then has reverted to the guy that just doesn't seem able to get good wood on the ball. If he got back to the player he can be, the Brewers are in great shape. But it's almost August and can they take that gamble? Graffanino has done a lot of nice things since becoming a Brewer. But what he offers, occasional power, decent defense, low OBP, doesn't fit what the Brewers need which is a higher OB guy who can hit around .300 with occasional pop. Besides, the Brewers lack RH bench punch when Graffy starts. That guy is out there and available and his name isn't Mark Loretta, its Ronnie Belliard. If the Twins ever got realistic and waived the white flag being 9 back in division and 7.5 in wild card, Luis Castillo is another guy who would give the Brewers what they need.
  6. "Maroth pitched well against the Brewers while he was still a Tiger" Actually no he didn't. He gave up 10 hits and 4 BB in 7 innings. The Brewers (as is their habit), helped him out over and over by trying to hit 3 run home runs with guys on instead of playing small ball. Fortunately Bill Hall bailed everyone out that game with a clutch 2 run home run that set the Brewers on a nice little run. If they can't get 2 or 3 wins against that lineup of garbage the Cardinals will have on the mound, then they are in trouble.
  7. Guys consider yourselves lucky. I live in amongst the Cub fans in suburban Chicago. I can't turn on the radio or local news without being bombarded about the fantastic Cubs. It seems every time I hear Yost or Melvin, its "What me worry"? I stopped reading Mad Magazine in the Johnson adminstration. This team is fundamentally flawed. Yes they have some great young power hitters, but the beauty of baseball is being able to deliver key hits with runners on base on a consistent basis. They just don't do it in opponents ballparks. The approach taken on the road has to change. Whether it's the pregame routine or whatever, something or somebody has to change. They say Prince is our leader. Then why is he sitting in a game they desperately need?
  8. He could pick up playoff shares from two teams. Had he stayed in Milwaukee, he'd have none.
  9. Linebrink will save us from all this aggravation. As Doug Melvin said this AM: He works quick innings. Either he gets guys out or throws gopher balls (9 already this season).
  10. I'll say one thing about those Valentyn boys. They hit when it counts. Braun made 4 outs in his last two AB's. That was not a good sign. Cordero is just not the same guy on the road.
  11. I take back everything. Ned you are indeed a genius.
  12. Let's see now. 37 year old Junior, having started every Red game since the All Star Break, and playing in a day game after a night game is a triple away from the cycle. Meanwhile in the Brewer dougout is our 23 year old MVP candidate because his manager has decided he needs a day off. At least he decided to play Braun today to make it interesting.
  13. "If they were winning this wouldn't be an issue" Absolutely. But they are not winning at least on the road are they? And specifically, they are not scoring runs. So it is an issue when the top run producers on the team sit on back to back games. As for it being too taxing on them to play everyday. Mentally it's tough to compete at the highest level of a sport and a break now and then helps them out some I suppose. Physically though, these guys are highly trained and handsomely rewarded superior athletes in their twenties. That shouldn't be an issue if they take care of themselves off the field.
  14. Why is the Cardinal series any more important than the Red series? To me it's more important start getting road wins now and building up momentum on the road. Right now, they have zero momentum. Rest Fielder when some other guys are picking up the slack. Right now I can't find any.
  15. "How do we know Prince isn't sore?" He didn't look sore on that triple the other night.
  16. Look if a guy is really scuffling, I'm all for giving him a day off especially if the rest of the team is going well. But Prince isn't scuffling and neither is Braun while pretty much the rest of the team is. That plus the fact they are just 2 weeks removed from the All Star break which for Braun was 4 days and Fielder 2 days. Hart, Hardy, and the rest are key guys but not the studs. Braun and Fielder are studs, the guys opposing pitchers look ahead at. Why make their jobs so much easier by taking either guy out of the lineup?
  17. Fact: Soriano has started every Cub game since April 25th when he was held out on a rainy day at Wrigley because he was still nursing a tender hammy. Derek Lee has started every Cub game all year other than his suspension except 3 or 4 in May when he had a slight injury. Aramis Ramirez started every Cub game that he was not on the DL but one on June 27th when he was still a little sore.
  18. "I just don't like "JV" lineup" It's a JV lineup anytime you sit MVP and ROY candidates. If Fielder is indeed an MVP, he should play every day. Period. Stop babying these guys.
  19. Prince does not need a day off. Please. The guy is 6 for his last 16 and one of the only guys in the lineup who is hitting at all. Yost is out of his mind sitting Braun and Fielder in back to back games while his lead is vanishing. Does Piniella give Lee or Ramirez or Soriano days off? Did Harvey Kuenn give Yount or Cooper or Molitor days off? Answer: No.
  20. Signing Suppan was one thing. I thought given the market and his relative consistency meant the risks weren't all that bad. Backloading the contract was the big mistake. It makes it nearly impossible to trade him. This past offseason ownership/management made the most basic of small market mistakes. Namely every move they made was a reaction to what happened in 2006. Lose Sheets and Ohka, an oh, we need depth at all costs in our rotation. Have to bring up a career minor league roster filler for 30 AB's (Barnwell), and oh, we can't get caught short of veteran major leaguers so let's open up the checkbook and overpay for mid 30's veteran backups. Only one problem with that strategy. 2006 had a unique set of problems and every year is different.
  21. No. They're trying to make sure all of them will be rested enough to stay awake watching the World Series on TV.
  22. "the only reason we're in panic mode is that the Cubs...play out of their minds." No Badgerfan, it's because we've watched the Brewers be managed by someone out of his mind. "Big Ed Sedar seemed miffed by tonight's lineup as well" Right there Big Ed has more insight than the current manager. Right now I'm all for Ed managing.
  23. I'm almost certain that tomorrow Graffanino will be playing 1st base and Prince will be sitting. Come September, the Brewers may be 10 games back, but doggone it, they'll be well rested.
  24. Braun might as well be in Lake Geneva tonight.
