  1. Wily Peralta to hold a one run lead where he failed so often?
  2. Wren puts the ball in play. Broxton is fanning at and alarming rate and it's not like he has Joey Gallo type power. Stearns apparently is fine with leaving runners stranded at 3rd with less than 2 outs.
  3. Wily Peralta recorded his first major league save last night. Glad for him. It was so painful to watch him pitch last year. Hope he continues to have success after the Royals leave town.
  4. Especially to a team inside their division.... I don't think the Reds are in a position right now to worry too much about that. If the Brewers offered them a decent return for him, and it was the best offer, I'm sure they'd listen. The Reds have played really well lately and because Votto isn't going anywhere, I don't think they'll do a complete rebuild anytime soon. They have a nice young core in Suarez, Peraza, and Winker already producing. Barnhart is on a team friendly deal through that including an option year, runs through 2022. It wouldn't shock me if they caught Pittsburgh in the standings this year.
  5. Yes it would count as service time. And you need to be on the 40 man roster before you can be called up. The 40 man roster sits at 39 right now. If Shaw has to be DL'd, I give Hiura a look, and not in the 8th spot in the order either.
  6. Sogard has a higher than average line drive percentage. He's not completely lost. I'm not knocking Saladino who was swinging it very well in under 40 plate appearances. But he hasn't played in over a month, and he's a guy who hit .178/.254/.229 in a not so small sample last season. So you don't know what you'll get from him when he returns. I do agree that Saladino's a better defensive SS than Sogard, but Sogard's passable. I just think some are overreacting to Saladino's offensive burst in a very small sample. The solution to the issue at SS is to trade for an established guy, and there's certainly names out there.
  7. Agreed. Brewers can and probably will take on salary and they would prefer that to losing guys at the top of their prospect list.
  8. I don't see Hiura as a guy the Brewers will move. He's arguably the best system bat since Ryan Braun came along and you just don't let those guys go.
  9. Saladino had a .484 OPS in 281 PA last year. Yes he's had a nice start to his career in a Brewer uniform, but the reality is that he's a RH version of Sogard. Saladino's career: .236/.284/.359, .627 OPS. Sogard career: .239/.309/.315. .625 OPS They're the same guy.
  10. He certainly won't finish his season in AA. I expect them to bump him up to AAA in early August. I wouldn't rule out a call to the majors at any time though. The offense is so weak beyond the 5th spot in the order, they may decide to roll the dice. Personally, having seen him this spring in Arizona, I think he's up to the task. He's a very, very mature hitter.
  11. Can't have great defensive plays when balls aren't put into play. The hit and run has disappeared completely. The best of the best always fanned a lot of hitters but now it's not just the Chris Sale's of the world that fan a lot of hitters. Almost everyone does. A big strikeout when men are on base can be exciting but I'd like to see some guys hit to get on base.
  12. Hey Sogard is 3 for his last 7, raising his BABIP to .188. I don't think BABIP is all luck but Sogard has hit 25 ground balls and only 2 have turned into hits. His LD% of 27% (exactly his career number also) is above league average of 23%. Villar on the other hand has a BABIP of .358 and a line drive percentage of just 20%. A lot of his ground balls are hit so softly, they turn into infield hits. He has 25 hits on 90 ground balls. Huge, huge difference. Now Villar has an edge in that his best hit balls fly over the wall, while Sogard's are caught on the track but a case can be made Sogard has hit in extreme bad luck and conversely that Villar has been lucky. But Villar isn't a huge HR hitter so that edge isn't all that great and that should be offset by the fact that Sogard's K rate is lower. Finally Sogard's career FP as a 2B is .987 compared to Villar's .967. There's your case for Sogard starting over Villar. Personally I like Villar as a RH hitter much better than a LH hitter. He takes better swings from the right side. The results aren't always there, but that's clearly his natural side.
  13. Hey I was a bench basketball player in high school. Can't count the number of times I got fouled the first minute I was in a game, some 15 or 20 minutes after pregame warmup was over. Try shooting a free throw without having worked up a sweat in a game yet. Even the best shooters percentage in those situations is way, way down.
  14. I'm usually one that thinks 3+ hour games aren't that big of a deal but yesterday was a snooze fest for like 99% of the game. I was at the game yesterday. After Mikolas grounded out to end an inning, he stood by first base, removed his batting helmet and glove, then strolled slowly back to the dugout where he spent another minute or so putting his cap back on and getting his glove before heading back out the the mound. The rest of the Cardinal team didn't emerge from the dugout until he got ready to go back out. The 2 minute clock and run out, and was reset at least once. What's the point of a clock if it's not enforced? The bat boy should have run out, gathered his helmet and batting gloves and one of the infielders should have carried out his cap and glove. He should not be allowed to walk all the way back to the dugout. There was very little action in the game with tons of strikeouts, many on full counts, and very few hits. One suggestion I heard made a ton of sense. Strikeouts are way up because hitting pitchers throwing 95 and up is hard. Wasn't that long ago when a guy who threw 90-92 was considered a power pitcher, now that's a soft tosser. The suggestion? Move the rubber back. Why is 60 feet 6 inches sacrosanct? Add a foot or a foot and a half and allow for more reaction time for the hitter. The rest of the game would remain exactly the same.
  15. His ERA and FIP are around 3.5. That's good, but one of the best starters in the game? Sorting by ERA, there are 29 starters with a better era. By FIP there are 20. He wouldn't even by our best starter based on those metrics, and our rotation leaves a lot to be desired. Have to give him some credit since he's not facing pitchers and he's in same division as Yankees and Red Sox. Happ would be certain to be a playoff starter.
  16. The bullpen will need another arm fairly soon so Sogard likely will be sent back down when that happens. Interesting that Burnes has relieved a couple times now so he could be the next guy to occupy that last pen spot with a 40 man spot open. Have to get Santana some AB's now rather than wait.
  17. I was in Maryvale in March. On one of the back fields was one lone pitcher and a coach working on pickoff move. The pitcher? Brent Suter. He's got at least 3 pickoffs so far. It's a huge part of the game.
  18. Brogdon, Dellavedova, Snell and Bledsoe were a combined 19 for 71 from deep in the playoffs. The need for someone that can step up when the lights are on was obvious, and he's not just a shooter. He can play off Giannis' game quite well cutting too.
  19. I'm with you. Bucks need guys that are versatile and can hit shots in big games. Tony Snell is not that guy. DiVincenzo would be perfect compliment to Giannis.
  20. Thames is playing RF in Pittsburgh because LF has so much room to cover. He'll play LF in Miller Park.
  21. He's only at 75 innings right now. His limit is likely 150 and they are only about 2 weeks away from the halfway point. I can see a 6 man rotation at some point or skipping his turn a couple times and that would keep him at his target.
