I'm not really a Bonds fan, but I don't hate him like so many other people do. I'm basically indifferent to him. Do I think he did steroids? Yes. Do I think most of the rest of MLB players during the same time were using steroids? Yes. I think it's unfair to hold him above everybody else just because he's setting records. I don't know if anyone can prove that he wouldn't have hit the number of homers otherwise, but it's a moot point now. Steroids were a part of MLB and that's what they have to live with now. It's hard to single someone out because of use just because it's Bonds. He's not Henry Aaron, he's not as classy, he's not as modest, he's more of a showoff, but he's now the home run king. If people think that the dark cloud hanging over Bonds, as Bud has reminded everybody in each of his released statements, will diminish or tarnish the record, I doubt it. The game will persevere. Baseball survived the Black Sox Scandal. It survived Pete Rose. It's survived countless work stoppages and the cancellation of the World Series. Bonds and 756 will be no different, and I'm OK with that. I'm not going to hate on the man tonight. It's his night and his accomplishment and congratulations to him.
