  1. There's a few more now. Bill Bray looked good, I'll add him soon.
  2. Portland has MUCH better beer. Welcome to the Northwest guys. We're friendly out here. Well everybody but me that is. Do you know which side of the river you're going to live on? PDX is VERY bi-polar. Hippies on the East, Yuppies on the West. The Sellwood neighborhood is the place to be.
  3. Canon 30D If you click on one of the photos, on the right is the camera and lens setting info actually if you click the "more properties" link also you can see the full size versions if you hit the "all sizes" tab at the top
  4. I had enough time to process a pair of 'em at least. I'll get some more up later this afternoon . . . http://www.flickr.com/photos/71283914@N00/
  5. I went down to Tacoma for the sounds game today. Nice that the AAA bullpen can blow a lead, just like the big boys. I'll post some pictures in a bit.
  6. Atlantic had the most talent. Hi Records had the best 1-2 punch in Al Green and Ann Peebles.
  7. If the Brewers are unable to re-sign Linnebrink next year they lose this trade. Regardless of attained draft picks. Yeah because giving up a third round pick for a pair of first/second rounders would be terrible! I guess this means that they don't fear Gallardo in the rotation TOO much. If the other shoe DOES drop, I would think it means Bush/Vargas going somewhere when Sheets is back. Especially in this starters market. But I can see this being it.
  8. Way to go Billy! For what? Overvaluing Kendall in the first place? they're sending a nice hunk of cash the Cubs way too, and it's not like Kendall won't be an upgrade over Bowen. I fail to see how this is "an unmistakable" A's coup, and not just another way to save yourself $1.5 million and make the team pay for his "player lust" yet again. Still, unlike most GM's, Beane isn't afraid to cut his losses, maybe because even when h does, people call his mistakes "brilliant!"
  9. We'll just have to agree to disagree that the Mariners, with their current crop of players, is anything above an average team I don't disagree with that. But they're not in the AL Central, so they bar is slightly lower for them than say, the Twins or Indians. What they do have over those teams with this signing is to go to $200 million in payroll and still turn a profit. Oakland and Texas have limits on them and the Angels are just as old. Being mediocre in the AL West may very well give you shot at the playoffs.
  10. I don't know much about Seattle's minor league system, but outside of Adam Jones, what other help is on the way? Dave Cameron's Future 40 . . . www.ussmariner.com/featur...eforty.htm With that said, Cameron is holding the Ichiro signing up to a marginal win metric, but my point is that marginal wins are not important to a team who probably won't be over .500 in the near future. Is tomorrow the near future?
  11. Until/Only if she actually starts embracing her 'fame,' the situation won't go anywhere. Which is the way it should be. I don't get the Danica Patrick slam you break out, as I've never seen her as anywhere near Carmen Electra (although I don't follow the driving stuff). I threw Patrick up there simply as an athlete that craves to be taken seriously for her abilities yet doesn't turn down a whole lot of opportunities to cash in on her attractiveness. She certainly not in the Carmen Electra / Girls Next Door class. I simply disagree with you that we're "for the most part only defining women..." by their sex appeal. Perhaps it's just that I'm in the minority that doesn't do so, but I just think Nancy Grace is an obnoxious blowhard, just like Bill O'Reilly. It doesn't have anything to do with 'sexiness.' Some might call her attractive, some may not, but I honestly don't care...and can say the same on darn near anyone I encounter, male or female. really here I just wanted people to think and discuss these ideas so this paragraph is worth the whole thread. I know what the culture is. That I can do little or nothing to change it. I just wanted to know if most people are happy with it. And what are you talking about? Bill O'Reilly is smoking hot! http://www.ewiseradiotools.com/station_files/jockitems___77_1125004382.jpg
  12. The other problem is when your OBP is BA driven is that when you are not hitting you are not helping the team. cough*defense*cough EdgarDiazRocks you are in Seattle? We should grab a drink sometime and talk brewers. I fear people. Where you at?
  13. This young woman is hot, and there's nothing perverse about that. It doesn't mean I want to leave my wife for her or stare at her picture for hours. She's sexy, why be in denial or act like it's wrong to admit it? Here's the crux of it to me. Why in this day and age are we still for the most part ONLY defining women in the public eye by their perceived "hotness" or lack thereof? And this certainly cuts both ways, why can't we just say Rosie O'Donnell is an annoying twit without the added "and she's ugly too!"? I feel great sorrow that we can't get past the fact that perhaps some attractive females in the public eye DON'T want to be featured in that FHM way and instead would rather be treated like they were normal people. I know that for every cute girl who would rather be asked about their opinions rather than their bra size there are twenty Carmen Elecktra and Danica Patrick types who would much rather take the easy route and just bend over and squeeze a bottle of mustard. But why does that automatically makes us think that is what they ALL want? Or to paraphrase Al (don't say anything mean, . . don't say anything mean . . .don't say anything mean) . . . . why do we assume she WANTS to do ad work? That everybody craves the attention? And I do know of incidents like this on the "good" side. For example when the Mars Rovers were shiny and new, Jessica Collisson caused quite the geek boy stir when she was mission director and kept showing up on CSPAN and NASA-TV for briefings. "You mean she's cute AND she works for JPL? Mmmm ........ Rocket Science . . . ." zipcodemars.jpl.nasa.gov/...tate_id=CA http://zipcodemars.jpl.nasa.gov/bioentry/images/background/colli-j-386-prof-th-a.jpg
  14. I can't imagine it being that many. How many of them hold season tickets? It's mainly tourists. I would say around 500 -1,000 a game for a weekend series. And man do they buy merchandise. I'll take photographic proof on Saturday and post it. 9/11 hurt the numbers more than anything else, 'tho the numbers have rebounded with the addition of Kenji . . . from a 2005 Seattle PI article . . . I don't think looking at pythagorean W-L record is knee-jerk bashing. Their pythagorean record is 44-41, and that's with their bullpen overperforming and zero injuries to an injury-prone roster. The fact is, this team scores just about as many runs as they give up, and history states that these teams usually regress. Which is why I don't like using Pythagorean as a predictive tool rather than a analytical one Yes, certainly the M's have outperformed their talent to this point, but that doesn't place any merit on their ability to make the team better, like yesterday's news that Adam Jones was arriving to take over LF moving the oft-injured (this year) Ibanez to DH and Vidro to a platoon role. They are actively shopping for starters, and while I cringe at what Bavasi will give up for a mediocre starter, said league average player will surpass Fierbend/Baek/Weaver's numbers in the rotation while the offense (and defense) improves. If this team was going to stay the same as it was in the first half I would agree with you, but when there's profit to be had, Chuck Armstrong and the front office isn't shy about mortgaging the future to reap it. Now if only Willie Bloomquist would turn an ankle . . . . 2009 on the other hand looks BRUTAL at this point. EDIT: Here's Dave Cameron's long post on the contract . . . ussmariner.com/2007/07/11...on-a-year/
  15. from a marketing standpoint, it may pay dividends. But people from Japan don't come to the stadium. Dude. You obviously have never been to this stadium. They come. Lots and lots of them. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/180/413528939_77cfe767da.jpg and they 'aint coming for Kenji. Now really does anyone but Tim McCarver believe the Hargrove "I lost passion for the game" bit? and while I am as big of a Bavasi detractor as anyone, there is a lot of knee jerk bashing of a team 13 games over .500 at the break in this thread.
  16. It bugs me that I have zero understanding when it comes to how gas pricing works. How Gas Prices Work http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/gas-price-breakdown-3.jpg
  17. So your teenage daughter is a pretty good pole vaulter. A photog for a track & field website gets a great picture of her when she accepts a scholorship to Cal. http://www.allisonstokkepictures.com/images/action_pictures/competition_pictures/24.jpg Some cheesey sports/porn bloggers picks up the picture and all hell breaks loose. Washington Post Follow up article So my question is this, as guys, are we really this freakin' stupid? Do we see boobs and then forget everything else in life? And I found this story because guys on BTF were clamoring for more Allison Stokke coverage on SportsCenter. EDIT: And hopefully, I'm starting a discussion about this and not simply feeding the frenzy.
  18. How about the fact that their pitching 'aint half bad. and Tom Gorzelanny looks like a harbor seal http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/images/2006/07/06/kMUJVMbq.jpg http://www.fakr.noaa.gov/images/hsealpup_sm.jpg
  19. Boy I hate those who harp on the "I told you so" posts . . . That said, all y'all who wanted to play TGJ over Corey in April and May . . . Wink, wink . ..nudge . . .nudge
  20. speculation is that it's ichiro! related. Hargrove and ichiro! have never seen eye to eye and now that the M's have a real chance to resign him, they told Hargrove he wouldn't be back and he told him to shove it and grabbed the headlines. Total rumor on that one though.
  21. I have always preferred being able to land the plane (which I learned how to do from Dad at age 8 or so). Skydiving is just falling, ANYBODY can fall. Landing in a crosswind? That's a special skill.
  22. Well I just signed up for Netflix for the simple reason that I couldn't find Jean-Pierre Melville's Army in the Shadows anywhere in town to rent. my que filled up quickly and my french noir arrives tomorrow. I'm almost excited. http://www.cinep.org/site/images/films/armeeOmbres.jpg
  23. Wow. The removal of both The Third Man and Manchurian Candidiate for things like Sixth Sense is appaling. And I still don't understand the fascination with Vertigo. EDIT: after a quick check i clock in at 78. The newfound Altman and Bogdanovich love killed me.
  24. bust out the rye bread and mustard grandma! ya gotsa to love billy hall!
  25. theres no way Dances With Wolves stays on there. And sadly, I bet Unforgiven drops off too. Persobally i would like Stalig 17 and The Wild Bunch to get some love.
