  1. It sure is baffling, but hard to blame Ned given all managers do it Tejada/Berkman/Lee could be due up in the 8th with the other team up a run, but the best relief pitcher is never brought in. Then the lead is lost there and the closer never gets in the game.
  2. Yep Given the unpredictable nature of baseball in a short series format, Vegas will have the Cubs favored to beat Arizona, but the line won't be huge. Predicting the Cubs will lose in the first round is roughly like saying i'm going to flip a coin 10 times and i predict it will land on heads 6 or 7 times.
  3. I'd rather win the wild card than win the division Cubs will likely face Arizona and if we win the wild card, the Mets or Phillies, i think the Mets win the East In a short series, Arizona has the starting pitching that could shut down teams. The Mets only have Santana and then there is a big drop off.
  4. I'm not really ripping Yost for this given no other managers part from the script, but it would have been nice to see Ned stray from the manager handbook and bring Torres in for the 8th inning. He hasn't pitched for a few days and we have a day off. It just sucks that todays managers have tied their hands behind their backs with the closer. Their three best hitters due up in the 8th, but we can't bring in Torres because he's the closer. It's frustrating that this mentality has taken over MLB managers.
  5. An inning like this is a prime example of why i hate the save stat We had the heart of the Cardinals order coming up and instead of bringing in our clear best relief pitcher to face those three hitters, Ned brought in Riske because it wasn't the 9th inning.
  6. Are you crazy? This is a two game swing depending on if we win or lose, up either 3 1/2 or 5 1/2, Ned would have to be a complete moron to hit anyone on purpose in a two run game in the 8th inning.
  7. Yea i was big time nervous there, but that's what contending is all about, games late in the year actually mattering so much that you get extremely nervous. I love it.
  8. Can't blame Braun, he hit the ball hard, but it sure would feel much safer with a 3 run lead
  9. Damn, Prince must want that pitch back, 92mph right down the center of the plate
  10. http://seattletimes.nwsou..._apbbnpiratesalvarez.html Looks like Boras is trying to void out the kids contract over 200 grand even though Alvarez is guaranteed 6 million, just so Boras can say the 5th pick didn't get more than the 2nd pick.
  11. In most cases, a person will have their TV for 5-7 years, IMO, i'd tell people to spend an extra 100-200 dollars and get the nicer one because a month or two later you'll not even notice the extra money was spent and you'll have the product for years.
  12. Unlike what appears to be 90% of the general population, I do not own a flat screen, plasma, lcd, 1080 psi, or what ever you call it 48" HD TV. HD television sets are expensive, and last I heard the cable companies were charging extra to receive these special HD channels. I can barely justify paying $45 dollars a month of expanded basic, nevermind premium HD channels. Last year I saw all of one or two Badger games, seeing all of them this year in crappy ole standard screen TV will suit me just fine, so it is hardly a "waste" if it isnt in HD. The HD channels are dirt cheap RyDogg, i think i pay like 5 extra dollars a month for HD box vs a standard DVR one with Time Warner. I didn't think i'd care much either. Before getting my plasma, i had a really nice 36' Sony tube TV with what i thought was a great picture. I waited longer than most before buying an HD TV and ended up getting a sweet 42' Panasonic plasma TV for 900 dollars that a year ago would have been 1500-1700 dollars. It's amazing to me how cheap the TV's are now getting and the picture on even off brands are pretty damn good. A friend of mine bought some off brand 42' plasma for i think 600 dollars, the picture is really nice in HD. Now that i do have HD, i'm hooked and it does bug me when i have to watch something broadcast in analog. Kinda like going from a broadband computer to dialup, feels as if i'm dealing with some outdated technology.
  13. Few starters aren't willing to stay in a game and finish it if asked. It's the managers job though to say no, you're already at 112 pitches and we're up 9-2, we'll let one of our rested and low leverage relief guys pitch the last inning. You act like we are talking about the 5th inning and Ned had to decide on covering many innings which might tax the bullpen instead of what actually was the case, any of the relievers pitching one inning in a 9-2 game.
  14. http://scareyshop.com/catalog/images/misfits.jpg In my younger days i really loved the Misfits and Danzig was their singer. That just shows how long this site has been around and grown because i joined near when it first started and that's when i used to use danzig as my log in name for message boards like ESPN.
  15. I used to feel that way, but now i find a lot of the dumb things he says to be amusing. Like when he says stuff like you can't pitch to this or that guy, then a minute later when that guy scores after being walked, Schroeder will say walks kills you. Classic Bill.
  16. Even though i'd have pulled CC after the 8th, i could remotely live with him going out for the 9th so long as he had a quick inning. What really annoyed me was Ned waited so long to get Mota up in the pen. Someone in the bullpen should have started getting loose the second CC stepped on the mound for the 9th inning. As much as anything Yost does with the pitching staff that bugs me is how often he's so late in getting someone loose in the pen, then Ned gets stuck and has to try one stall tactic after another because he was so late getting the pen up.
  17. No way, Jenkins is in real decline and Melvin saw it coming. He's playing in a tiny ballpark and has a terrible .730 OPS vs righties and pitcher like hitting stats vs lefties in very limited at bats. I wouldn't give him the starting job vs righties even if he played for the league minimum, the birthdays have sapped Jenkins of his one nice hitting skills.
  18. Regardless of the bad scoop and Martin would have beat the throw anyways, double play balls involving Weeks have been a nightmare since the All-Star break. Fans shouldn't have to be terrified that their secondbaseman can blow any DP regardless if it's a tough play or easy one.
  19. The problem is Ridnour doesn't play any defense. We traded a soft non-defending PG for another soft non-defending PG. Last year far and away the Bucks horrid defense was the biggest problem with the team, particularly in the backcourt. Well a Ridnour/Redd combo is as bad defensively as Mo/Redd was. Charlie Villanueva just might be the worst defensive player in the NBA and he's our starting PF. Bogut is a solid defending center, but he's not a great defender. This team still has a soft starting lineup that doesn't have a single really good defender and three of the starters are terrible defenders. The Bucks have a miserable bench. If Skiles can lead this roster to a playoff berth, he should win COY honors without question.
  20. Since the Cubs series, Weeks has blown 7 double plays.
  21. Off the top of my head, is there another pro athlete that had much success and got mega-rich like Sheffield has that was also nearly always unhappy and complaining like Sheff? I understand that there can be and issue or two that can make even crazy rich athletes unhappy, but Sheffield spent his whole career acting like every team he played for was out to get him and treating him very unfairly.
  22. What exactly does it mean for a hitter to "battle" at the plate? Yea i can give him credit for taking pitches and managing to amazingly coax a good number of walks from pitchers even though he has absolutely zero power and carries a terrible batting average. In the end though, he still makes a ton of outs and carries a lower OBP than Branyan. Russell obviously adds the dimension of being able to hit more than weak singles or walks given his vastly superior power. Being able to make more contact means very little to me if he gets on base less than Branyan and has vastly less power. The stats don't lie, .628 OPS vs a .928 OPS, that's a vast gulf. Counsell does bring better defense, i won't deny that, he's a fabulous defensive player. My issue is he comes to the plate to often with runners on base by batting 6th and the end result is to often an out, or at best a weak single or walk. Branyan simply is a much better and more productive hitter, regardless of the battleness levels people want to put on hitters.
  23. I don't know if you remember, but when Branyan was first called up and was on fire, we had a discussion about how Ned would handle Branyan once he inevitably went into one of his notorious deep slumps. My feeling was once Branyan cooled off, his part of being in a platoon would come to a swift end. I'm not posting this to pat myself on the back because i don't care for Branyan being banished to a pinch hitter role so Counsell can hit 6th in the order four times a week. I'm just saying that people should have seen this coming, Ned just doesn't really care for hitters like Branyan, regardless if his OPS dwarfs what Craig brings. I just hope if we make the playoffs, by that point, something will have happened that our main thirdbaseman isn't a guy with an OPS that's struggling to stay above .600.
  24. Yea Suppan is lucky as hell tonight, the Padres are hitting one ball hard after another
