  1. Any time a team is in a big offensive slump and not scoring runs, it will always feel like the team i dead and lifeless. It's pretty hard to see spark and excitement when zeros keep getting put up on the scoreboard in so many innings. Maybe Hart shouldn't have spoken to the media about this, but i'm pretty sure his feelings are felt through the clubhouse. Sometimes when a sports team is in a bad slump and is slumping while at home, it might feel better for them to get on the road where they don't face both the pressure of trying to win and pleasing hostile home fans who obviously are on big time edge. We did lose tonight, but since the All-Star break, the Brewers have played better on the road than at home, i sure hope getting away from Miller Park is something that helps right the sinking ship.
  2. This injury just shows how wacky and unpredictable baseball can be Who would have thunk prior to the season that fans would have reason to be bummed out that in mid-September Gabe Kapler got injured? I kept thinking after his early hot start, that Gabe would regress quite a bit to where i'd question why he was still on the team, but man was i wrong. The guy just played good solid all around baseball the whole year whenever called upon to play.
  3. It has surprised me just how loud and often the booing has come out in Miller Park this year when i'm at games or watching on TV, the crowds remind me of Philly crowds. One thing i can't comment on though is just how excessive the booing is compared to most other cities or if it even is excessive because i rarely watch any other teams play? I do wish our fans had more smarts and class to see that constantly booing serves no positive purpose in helping the team and it possibly could hurt the team that's in a playoff race, but i don't see it happening. If the team comes home and struggles, i expect to booing to get even more intense, especially at any of these targets that the crowd jumps on quickly and loudly when they play poorly Weeks Hall Gagne Riske Suppan If any of those five struggle in a crucial game at home, they'll get savaged by the crowd. I wouldn't doubt though that given how close teammates get, the booing pisses off more the rest of the teammates than the player who is the target of the jeers. Kinda like how say if two brothers are very close, seeing your brother going through a trying time can often bother you as much or more as it bother them.
  4. Prop to the Astros Their fans had to think their season was toast and be shaking their heads at the pickups of Wolf/Hawkins, but now the team is on a massive role while teams like the Brewers have on the gag collar. They may not end up in the playoffs, but it has to be great fun right now for their fans as they just keep winning nearly every night why we are getting beat at home by bottom feeding teams. To be left for dead like they were and then to be back in it while their team is on fire has to be great fun for their fans. Even though we still have a three game lead on the Stros, i'm kind envious of their fans because things feel so grim for the Brewers while Astros fans have to feel excited like something special might be happening for their team this year.
  5. Man, except for Prince tonight, i can't remember the last time the 3-4-5 guys in the order came up with a big hit
  6. If yelling to the media about that the team is stinking up the joint during a rough stretch is all it took to turn things around, we'd be seeing quotes like this every week from various different managers. I'm much more bothered that Ned in back to back nights in 5-4 games during our last at bats, he let both Counsell/Kendall hit against Cordero than i am that Ned doesn't tell a reporter that the team is playing like crap. During this bad homestand, Braun, Fielder, and Hart aren't hitting much at all. When the 3-4-5 guys in a batting order are making tons of outs except for an occasional walk or single, we are going to struggle badly to score runs. I don't think those three guys need to be reminded that they aren't producing or that telling a reporter that the heart of our lineup has been miserable would suddenly make them start hitting. I'm not a Yost fan, but i'm not sure there is much of anything he can do to make our key hitters get back on track except hope it happens quickly. Prince-- .176 BA/.263 OBP/.206 SLG/.469 OPS Braun-- .250 BA/.357 OBP/.306 SLG/.663 OPS Hart--- .194 BA/.237 OBP/.250 SLG/.487 OPS Those are the numbers this month for the heart of our batting order, 0 home runs and 6 RBI's combined, a massive reason for team struggles
  7. Yea his hitting has been better in the second half of the season, to bad though for Weeks and the Brewers, he also has to put on a glove and play defense. His play at second base in the second half of the year has been miserable. Between all the errors, muffed plays that were nearly errors, and a sickening amount of blown double plays, every time a ball is hit in his direction during a close game, the Brewer dugout has sweat it out in fear that Rickie will yet again turn an out/outs into baserunners.
  8. Send me the info for sending a check
  9. I'll buck the trend and say that I am a losing online poker player. Originally, I was very good. I used to use Pacific Poker and my first two deposits I put in $50 and cashed out $500.00 after about 3 weeks of play. So I was net +900 after about 6 weeks. Then the govt. decided to limit transcations with US banks and Pacific Poker shut down. I went over to Full Tilt and had nothing but losses after losses. I've probably lost -900 or so, maybe more. So I'd say in general, minus those first 6 weeks, I've lost, though it's taken me 2 years or so to lose it all back. I think that I play appropriately, I just get a horrible run of cards on most occassions.Once the government got involved and made it harder to play, it lowered the number of newbie players that joined to give online poker a try, thus it mostly left the hardcore poker players on these sites. Now instead of the tables being full of new players that aren't really that smart, the tables are mostly full with higher quality players that are tougher to beat. That's a big reason i gave up on playing online. I would bonus chase and used to play a lot on Partypoker because with all their advertising, the site was flooded with new players that made winning much easier than it is now. I most played the 25, 50 or 100 NL cash tables and often enough, there would be some bad players sitting down, if not, i'd leave and find a different table. At those lower limits, i wasn't exactly getting rich, but i'd guess i won around 4500-5000 grand in about a year and a half. Without all the easy bonuses of the past and better players on the sites now, i know i'm not good enough to win consistently anymore and make it worth grinding out all those hours to win a little money or maybe end up losing a little. Plus, i was spending to much time playing, it was bad for my health. I smoke, but pretty lightly, about half a pack a day or less. When i was playing poker online for multiple hours every day though, i'd smoke like a chimney and be all cranky in bad stretches.
  10. I shocked by how few here have TIVO or a DVR I'll watch the Packers while taping the Brewers game, then watch the Brewers and hopefully not seeing or hearing who had won the Brewers game
  11. I really like the potential future of both Stetter and Dillard as fixtures in the bullpen. I didn't like seeing Stetter getting sent down when he was and if Gagne wasn't owed so much money for the season, he'd have been waived awhile ago and i think Dillard would have provided better production. We are just caught in what often happens around baseball when a team gives a player a lot of money, they rarely will bite the bullet and just release the guy even though it should be obvious that the player stinks. If Gagne was making say 1.2 million this year, he'd have either been waived or sent to the minors if he'd accept the demotion. Gagne has been a terrible pitcher since late July of last season and has shown absolutely nothing this year to find hope that he has something left to turn things around. The 10 million is already spent, the Brewers should have just cut their losses and not suffered in the standings by continuing to hope/pray that the mistake still had any use. Plus, the worst part of Melvin refusing to suck it up and waive Gagne was it left him in the bullpen for Ned to foolishly keep using in close games simply because Yost thinks Gagne has "veteran makeup" from his past days closing games. With expanded rosters i guess that i wouldn't care he remained on the team for garbage innings, but i still can't feel 100% sure that if he happens to throw a scoreless inning or two, even if balls were hit hard, that suddenly Yost won't proclaim Gagne to be "fixed" and ready to go back to pitching in crucial situations. Then we'll be right back to seeing that dumbfounded look on Ned's face as some hitter jacks a two run bomb in the 8th inning of a game we were up a run in.
  12. My biggest issue with continuing to pitch Gagne is he's never really shown any glimmer of hope all season that something is there to grasp that he'll get any better. Even when Mota was terrible before rebounding lately, he looked good for awhile. Gagne has stunk pretty much from the start and has stayed bad. Ned would see Gagne have a few outings without giving up a run and thus assume "he's turning it around", when all it really was is simple odds, any big league relief pitcher who pitches enough will have some innings without giving up a run. His ERA for the most part has been above 6 all year because he simply no longer is an effective big league pitcher, just cut your losses, the money is already spent. Don't leave him on the roster where Ned can see a Gagne throw 1-2 scoreless outings and then proclaim Gagne is "fixed" and ready to again pitch in close games.
  13. With the Brewers looking to have a pretty good chance to make the playoffs, it got me to thinking about a possible first round series. Unlike basketball who switched their first round series from five games to seven, baseball has it at five games and i wonder what other baseball fans think of that? Baseball has by far the longest regular season in pro sports, a marathon 162 game schedule and i understand that by the time we get to the end of the World Series, it's in late October. With that said, to me the five game opening round series just seems to short given all it takes to make the playoffs over 162 games. A team can win 100 games, but in a five game series, say a poor start by their ace in the opening game and a great start by the opposing starter in game two can pretty much put a quick end to that teams season. Granted, even in a seven game series, upsets can happen for sure, but at least in a seven game series, a bad first two games won't nearly for sure sink you. Adding potentially two more games to the playoffs doesn't seem to me to be something baseball couldn't figure out schedule wise without games going into November.
  14. Suppan hasn't pitched well, but in his defense, Weeks error was a killer, it's a DP if Rickie doesn't OLE the ball into right field
  15. Who cares Bill that the pitcher leads off next inning you dolt, the game is likely over right here if they get a base bit
  16. Uggg Rickie, he's painful to watch defensively
  17. That's what happens when your team is in a funk, Estes turns into a ground ball machine, Kouzmanoff turns into a Gold Glover, and we strand mass amounts of runners. It just starts feeling like a big black cloud is hanging over the team and no break will go our way.
  18. His numbers with RISP are solid, i just wish he'd be more willing to take a few pitches in that spot. Braun just gets so excited that he'll hack at nearly everything, even if the bases are loaded to where he could make the pitchers throw Ryan a pitch he likes.
  19. I look at it the other way around... shouldn't we be offering Fielder and some other things for Lincecum? Fielder has a ton of value, I think more than Cain and a prospect would represent. With his terrible defense, Prince has to really rake at the plate to be a big time asset. Cain is a 24 year old power arm starting pitcher with a 3.72 career ERA in roughly three big league seasons. If i'm a GM and had a choice of either player, it would be hard for me the pass on Cain, especially a NL team given Prince's defense and weight issues.
  20. I've always been pretty terrified of the idea of getting married, this thread sticks yet another knife in those thoughts.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I came close a few times, especially with my daughters mother, but always got not just cold feet, they turned absolutely frigid. As for sleeping, i'm the worlds lightest sleeper unless i go to bed trashed or just was involved in some seriously good lovin. On a normal night, i sleep so light that a spider crawling on the wall could wake me up. If i was married to a women who snores loud, i'd need some action nearly every night or i'd make the couch my new bed. Then again, i'm used to getting little sleep, five hours is a marthon sleep session for me. BTW, i have a question for you married folks sleeping in separate beds, but i understand if none want to answer. If you're in separate beds, how do you get any lovin going on at night? I've never been married, but have lived with girlfriends. To get any action, it generally takes some hands groping around fun places to get things started, seems hard to do from across the hallway unless you you're this guy. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg249/Seren_Builds/to%20build/108617-plastic-man_400.jpg
  21. Great job by Torres, not his fault Weeks dropped that throw
  22. How is that an error on Kendall, the ball hit the center of Weeks glove?
  23. Well that went from a promising inning to garbage I miss being excited to see Prince come up in big spots of the game
  24. Hard to tell on the replay, but it almost looked like Weeks wasn't running super hard at first thinking he had a sure double and then he picked up the pace after he saw it could be close.
