  1. I agree with colby that the gambling problem thing seems a little too contrived, considering I don't remember them talking about it in the past. As someone who had some gambling problems in the past,i know firsthand that it can go from casual fun to betting everything pretty quickly and before you really realize it's happening. It's true there wasn't much buildup to the gambling problems, but maybe it's happened quickly to Tony .Mix the compulsion that gambling can bring and issues in his life,i didn't find it all that contrived.
  2. once his hitting skills diminish, don't expect any major league teams to come calling offering coaching or front office positions. By then he'll likey have earned 120-170 million dollars,i doubt he'll be looking to do anything except chill and spend his cash.
  3. I'd trade Cappellan for Lidge in a heartbeat if they ate some of the money Lidge makes.
  4. I can't see that at work sorry, I just am able to see the 5 spot, were there more than just Hardy's error? Only one error, but the Cubs don't score a run without the error
  5. Walk/blown double play by JJ/Blooper Uggg
  6. What a game, not good for the acid reflux though. This team just has the look of a confident winner finally
  7. The thing i hated about bringing in Aquino is simply that there was a man on base and Aquino has a history of walking people.Walks are such a killer in late game situations and everytime you use this guy in a close game it's playing with fire that he can throw strikes. I'm not a Yost hater and to often i think fans of every team second guess the manager. With that said,Yost's use of the pen since he's been year just leaves me shaking my head to much. The minute Aquino threw those first few pitches nowhere near the strike zone,i yelled at the TV,please Ned get him out before it's to late.
  8. Turnbow has pitched once in the last 5 days, why couldnt he work 1.1? Because like most managers,Yost is a slave to certain roles for guys in the bullpen. If it's not the beginning of the 8th inning in a close game,Turnbow isn't allowed to pitch. It's very silly and annoying.
  9. I'm with Peavey...danzig must not have watched next week's preview. Paulie is going down IMO, whether or not it's next week is the real question. I saw that and Paulie very well could be a goner,i just don't think his comments about Johnny Sac will be much of a reason why.Maybe if it got back to Phil, but i don't see Tony clipping a trusted soldier like Paulie over a comment about Johnny Sac.
  10. That's what I initially thought, but the comment just seemed extra-out of place (even for Paulie) and more disrespectful the more I thought about it. Perhaps might end up costing Paulie if Tony gets frustrated due to lack of respect from Chrissy and Phil, and needs to make an example of someone. Paulie has pretty much always been loyal to Tony,i can't see Tony ever doing anything bad to Paulie unless he really really stepped out of line.A comment like he made doesn't seem near bad enough to get Tony irrate, plus it wasn't directed at Tony anyways.
  11. -Aida Turturro is horrible actress. At first i was annoyed to see the first Sopranos episode in ages to have a big presence for Janice and Bobby. For me at least, those two characters are as uninteresting as it gets and they've been featured far more than i'd like the last seasons.I was relieved to see how the episode turned out.
  12. Those wanting Hall to bunt just assume he'd get it down and in a spot that advances Fielder. My guess is Hall isn't a good bunter and trying could have just put him behind in the count or maybe he pops one up. Besides all that, you're giving away an out even if he got the bunt down
  13. Uggg Now Gross not getting in a run in the 8th could be costly
  14. Not that Carlos didn't deserve those walks, but this ump has a small strikezone tonight.
  15. The time to be agressive is with the bottom of the order...not the top. Maybe so,but Prince grounded out anyways
  16. Look like it just isn't the Brewers' night...lots of unlucky plays. Dodgers could also have more than two runs, that bullet Nomar hit found Councell's glove.
  17. I gave some stuff in here a try that others posted and wanted to give thanks for The Black Keys,i'm liking a fair amount of it.
  18. Reed types long posts, might wanna tone those down I can only speak for myself, but i generally have a post length eyeball test that shrinks the older i get.If a post contains multiple long paragraphs, reading them seems more of a chore than anything. As for new posters,if the stat stuff doesn't interest them,a solution is pretty simple, just avoid alot of it.For myself, most stats outside of OPS/OBP/SLG/WHIP/K:9 bore me silly and seem more than i need to know. When i see post talking about say a guys VORP or FIB,it becomes instant skim over for me.Not that i think those stats can't have any value,i just don't care. With that,i've managed to survive here just fine since this site was in it's infant stages.Act like an adult and don't have thin skin,if anyone does that they should be fine.
  19. Prior is a prime example of why you can understand draft picks holding out for every penny they can get.Once he can't get hitters out anymore,he'll be discarded like the days trash.
  20. I bought what i thought were around 70 dollar tickets for Roger Waters and when they showed up at my house, they were over 100 a piece and a section closer.I didn't wanna hassle exchanging them a and the people i'm going with were ok with it,but it's my first time paying 100 bucks or more to see a band. No wonder these bands tour forever they are making a fortune.
  21. Jon BJ is a fun guy, and while I don't agree with much of his politics, at least he's consistent and not a basher. Both he and Richie Sambora have said many times how they know the critics have liked some of their stuff and disliked most of it, but as long as the stadium or arena is full, they laugh all the way to the bank. I've seen Bon Jovi interviewed a few times, seems like a good and genuine guy, good to see he managed to live a stable life even though the many opportunities to self destruct were available in excess.I have absolutely nothing against the guy and i'm glad for him they are still able to draw large crowds,i just have always thought their music was a total bore to hear.Nothing more to it than that. They've obviously done fine without my support,Sambora is silly rich and got marry Heather Locklear, that's gotta be swell living. No, then they just have bad taste Since i at one timed shared at least some of your tastes in 80's metal,i'd assume we are near the same age.I never got into stuff like Bon Jovi/Dokken/Poison/Cinderella/Whitesnake,the stuff i kinda found to be soft femish hairspray rock.I was obssessed though with Motley Crue when Shout at the Devil came out when i was 13-14 and i was a huge Ozzy fan.Nicky Sixx was my idol during that roughly two year stretch after having 2nd row seats to a Crue/Ozzy concert. I can't listen to that stuff anymore,by about age 16 i was pretty much done with that sort of music outside of occasionally enjoying hearing one on the radio. When i poke fun at that music,i don't mean anything personal at you or any still followers of it since i once was one.
  22. People are music snobs if they don't like Bon Jovi or formulated 80's hair metal? Ok gotcha
  23. Bon Jovi is a headliner while B.B. King, Frampton, Asia, and FOREIGNER are side acts? Heck, I'd rather pay to just see "Dirty White Boy" than go to a Bon Jovi concert for free. Your post made me wonder how much i'd have to be paid to sit through a Bon Jovi concert.I'd assume there will be some nice eye candy in the crowd to look at outside of 35-40 year old women with heavy black eyeliner and to tight of jeans for their bodies.Regardless of some attractive ladies,i doubt that would be enough for me deal with two hours of Bon Jovi on my ears, even with free tickets. Their music is brutal, but i gotta admit that i'd love to have lived John Bon Jovi's life for awhile. He probably could have set records for amount of tail begging to be with a guy.I was in my teens during those hair metal years, let's just say John was a tad bit popular with the girlies. BTW,i can't believe Asia is actually still a band and getting gigs. You look around at popular current music of today and alot of these crappy 80's bands could outdraw them in concert i bet.Pretty strange to me how the majority of big selling concert acts are older bands or older solo acts.
  24. The problem with Nix isn't lack of playing ability as much as lack of ability to stay healthy for 5 straight days. That and treating walks like anthrax. In 851 at bats he has 41 walks and in his last 77 at bats he walked a whopping 0 times. His defense is great to watch and the power is intriguing, but getting on base at a .277 clip won't cut it. Nix is one of those teases with some great skills you see in sports that never just puts it together.
  25. I wouldn't want to give up much at all for a 60 innings pitcher. Simply put, I agree with Melvins "scrap heap" bullpen philosophy. Not that i want us to try and trade for Cordero, but Melvin isn't exactly "scrap heaping" it on the closer role.
