  1. I never thought about the fact he had to clear waivers to be outrighted. He should be safe from the Rule 5. A nice gamble by Melvin.
  2. MB, I'm not sure why you feel that would make a difference. When compared to using a 25 man spot on him, paying him an extra year at minimum MLB salary certainly is a tiny matter.
  3. Does that mean that Cruz is again eligible for the Rule 5 draft?
  4. Good to see us keep Machado. He's at a loaded position in the system, but he's a nice prospect.
  5. I can't believe either of these players is worthy of a pick. Shows how goofy the whole compensation is, huh?
  6. Lend, I go with the 2nd from the right. This might make an intersting poll...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. Two more solid minor league FA pickups. Not only are they good AAA players, every one has an upside big enough to see them contributing a the major league level.
  8. In SEA's defense, I'm sure they were all but positive KC was going to offer Ibanez arby, so they figured they would have had to forfiet the pick regardless. I feel Kelvim Escobar is the only FA worthy of giving up your 1st round pick for, but I'm an odd duck. This however, does not excuse SEA for thinking Raul "Less Than Mediocre" Ibanez is worth that kind of money. Odds are, they could have signed Matt Stairs for less than half that, and kept their pick, and got better production.
  9. Kevin needs to learn how to take a walk. He does scream career minor leaguer, yet he's a zillion times better than me. Damn.
  10. Nice managerial effort on the Campos start, allowing your starter to blow a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 9th. I wondered what Grady Little was doing this offseason.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. I recall BP saying kind things about Johnson, but a .311 OBP is barely tolerable. He's not a bad reserve, but unless you feel Coste is going to start...
  12. I never am able to make it anyway, but chilly never hurt anyone, Brian.
  13. Heck, Fernando Vina and Craig Biggio have made a career of HBP's...and Ginter's off to a good start.
  14. 8 HR's allowed in 183 AAA innings pitched, good WHIP, decent ERA, good K/BB ratio. Another outstanding minor league FA signing.
  15. It would seem obvious Coste is no Brad Ausmus with the glove. He reminds me a lot of Tom Wilson, who waited for decades for a chance, until he was rescued by Beane/JP. All 3 are very capable of being on the 25 man next April. Unlikely we'd see all 3, of course, but any could easily make it. Cruz is a LH Brady Clark; Coste hits like a replacement level 1B, but catches; and McGruder is a couple years from being a legit Top 10 prospect.
  16. If the stats I see for Magruder are accurate, as a switch-hitting 27 year-old who has very respectable AAA numbers, he might well have been the best minor league FA corner OF out there. I think all three of these fellas were coveted. None are likely to be Pods types "breakouts"...but who is? I'd say Magruder is an excellent example of what to look for, a younger guy who has produced, but never got much of a chance in the bigs.
  17. Coste is a very good signing. I would assume the other two are nothing but filler, but Cruz has spent a decent amount of time in the bigs, and I've heard of Magruder. EDIT: Magruder may well have an outside shot at a roster spot, if he gets a chance. He's young and has solid AAA numbers. Also Brian, Cruz is listed at 10 lbs.
  18. I assume it's either something Brian has to set or it's an EZBoard thing that's out of his control. Of course, that's a safe assumption, I guess.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. Huntsville is the only real option for Rickie, but he'll see Indy before reporting to MIL 9/1ish.
  20. I'm typing this as I'm watching COPS, somehow appropriate. Stenson's death is perhaps as idiotic as humanly possible. Honestly, I'm surprised his team is playing already, as the AFL is hardly "important", as it's an individual showcase, for the most part. And, nice pitching Ben.
  21. I'm disappointed we signed this journeyman when our own younger journeyman, Pich Paz was available. And how exactly does the guy spend parts of '99 and '00 in ANA, but 2003 was his first extended AAA stint?
  22. 123 fans...musta been bobblehead day.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. I believe the proper term is, if you throw enough longshots against a wall, sooner or later, one of them will stick. I think it's great that the Crew is scouring indy leagues and overseas for these kids, as they are low risk and shows they are open to doing whatever it takes. It reminds me of the Kerry Lightenberg story...former catcher Greg Olson was managing him in an indy league somewhere in MN, and he called the Twins and said, "I got a guy that can play." He was told, and I quote, "We don't sign guys from independent leagues". Olson called the Braves, and they got a decent arm for some equipment and baseballs, if memory serves. I wish we'd sign a couple players from each indy league, as it can't hurt, it'd be cheap, and at the very least, these guys are "battlers" who'll never complain about a 4 hour bus trip.
  24. Weeks offense is can't miss, no doubt about it.
  25. I would guess teams simply don't have a way of getting him out, so they are pitching inside on him. That and a Ginter like "no fear" of the ball.
