1. I'm making my Brewers Card Collection available. It's a collection of every player to have played for the Brewers/Pilots in a Major League game from 1969-1997. Thousands of cards, all different. Some players are represented on non-Brewers cards if that's all that was available. A few appeared only on minor league cards. Stored in 9-pocket Ultra-Pro pages and arranged alphabetically across 9 binders. I think the collection is worth $500, but that's a lot of money to spend on baseball cards, so interesting trades will be considered. I'm local to Milwaukee and could meet to work out a deal. Of course, there's a lot of Molitors and Younts, but there's also every obscure guy to ever wear the blue and gold. My personal favorite obscure guy is William Williams, whose entire Major League career consisted of 4 games with the Seattle Pilots in 1969, but he never got a baseball card until he was a coach for the 1989 Canton Indians. These would be ideal to combine with your Fielders, Brauns, Arcias and Haders to make a Franchise-wide comprehensive collection.
2. Tonight is the game to win. I like Anderson vs Harvey a whole lot better than Chacin vs Syndergaard.
3. I think they've got some runs in them tonight. They can't be shut out 3 games in a row, right?
4. "GM David Stearns said #Brewers signed 3B with MLB experience to play at @skysox and shockingly I guessed who it is. But not official until he passes physical so I'll leave it to you guessers." Haudricourt reporting that Brewers have signed a 3B with MLB experience and will assign him to AAA. Tom declines to say who it is.
5. Seeing you back makes me grateful, Dead Simmons. Always good having you on the board.
6. I've got a lot of 5 Brewers VHS tapes available on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323140744538 Includes; 1982 World Series MLB Video Legends & Legacies Memories of Milwaukee County Stadium Magic, Miracles, and True Believers The Story of the 1987 Milwaukee Brewers Reaching or The Top The Story of the 1988 Milwaukee Brewers Turning Twenty The Story of the 1989 Milwaukee Brewers
7. I always liked Ray King a little more because he lived in Milwaukee over the winter. That's dedication.
8. 2018 Brewers Season Predictions Win-Loss Record: 88-74 Playoffs (Yes, No): Yes Highest Playoff Level Achieved: Wild Card All Star Game Representative(s): Davies, Shaw Offensive Player of the Year: Cain Pitcher of the Year: Davies Most Surprising Player: Villar Most Disappointing Player:Thames I'm optimistic. I see them taking the next step and getting to the Wild Card game this season.
9. I would have liked to see Santana or Thames as part of a trade package to acquire a starting pitcher. OF course, this could still happen. I would also have liked to see Broxton traded. I like him, but we don't really have the right spot for him. He would make a great starting CF for a mediocre team. I hope he gets moved for his sake. I'm a fan, and I'd like to see how his career turns out.
10. I think it tells us that the Brewers didn't really see Cobb as a game-changer. I'm glad they didn't sign him just because he was the last guy available. The Jon Heyman article that Brew Crew Ball links to implies that Arrietta was they guy Milwaukee really wanted. An immature GM might have gone all in on Cobb once Arrietta became unavailable. I'm glad Stearns didn't feel like he had to settle. That's the kind of reasoning that caused the Brewers to overpay for guys like Matt Garza, et al. I'm glad the Brewers didn't end up paying the contracts that Arrietta & Cobb eventually got. (And as an aside, nice job by both Arrietta & Cobb patiently waiting out the market. Both did very well by waiting. Bet Lynn wishes he had been as patient.) Information like this causes me to believe that there is a plan, and that the front office continues to work that plan regardless of what players are available at the present moment.
11. According to Brew Crew Review and Jon Heyman, The Brewers made a 1 year, 12 Million Dollar offer to Alex Cobb. https://www.brewcrewball.com/2018/3/22/17153606/milwaukee-brewers-made-only-one-year-offer-to-alex-cobb-baltimore-orioles-collin-mchugh-rumors Looks like the Brewers didn't value Cobb as highly as we might have thought. And I apologize in advance for what this thread may very well become...
12. I'd be all for just using the current logo. I really get tired of the Friday night throwbacks EVERY week. This is a team moving forward. We've got a very bright future; I really tire of the living in the past.
13. I'm glad to see the game moving forward. Three divisions & a Wild Card, the Play-in game, Instant Replay, equal sharing of internet revenue; all changes meant to move the game forward & keep it relevant to the average fan. This idea, however, is goofy. But I'm still glad that all ideas are being considered.
14. I suppose I would prefer the DH. However, my stronger preference is that both leagues have the same rule. Especially with Interleague play.
15. Wear it proud, dude. Nothing wrong with being a baseball fan.
16. Wow--Clancy and Brian in the same thread. Maybe we can get Geno, Reed & Al in here too! Go Old School!!
17. Good interview with David Stearns from 2013. http://whiskersonastache.tumblr.com/post/41993401975/interview-with-houston-astros-assistant-gm-david
18. The Houston Chronicle reports the Astros have at least preliminary interest in Lohse or Garza. http://reviewingthebrew.com/2015/06/30/milwaukee-brewers-rumors-astros-have-interest-in-kyle-lohse-and-matt-garza/ I'm sure the Cardinals already knew this.
19. He may be available cheap. He's tight with Jerry Narron. Can anyone envision him coming to Milwaukee?
20. I miss a lot of the initial crew from the great ESPN migration. Brian was instrumental. I still bump into him around town now and again, and it's always nice to see him. GenoSeligPrieb always had an original, well thought out take on the team. He was on the ancient Fastball site, way back in the early days of the Internet. BigReed was great. He would defend his point of view relentlessly. Couldn't spell worth a darn. Clancyphile is still around, I think. Always an original take on things, usually involving players making position changes. Foamboy came around later. He never posted much, but he had reliable inside team sources and gave us the advance scoop a few times. Al the Thinking Man. People got on him for his arrogant attitude, but I always wondered if he was putting that on just to draw the reaction. I wonder if he still writes that blog, Al's Ramblings. Katullu was great. Back when they still let us talk politics and religion we could get a roaring debate going. As for me, I was here at the beginning but don't post much anymore. Used to be that I had the time, now life is busier. I used to have the time to find out things to post. Now, I come here to read and I find out a lot of Brewers news for the first time right here. I'm glad the next generation is here. This has always been a great community. It's outstanding that it has continued all this time and remained the quality board that it always was.
21. Yount has the franchise lead at 251. Braun needs 44 to be the Brewers franchise leader. Allow me to kick it off.
22. Fun topic to think about. 1. Realign based on geography. AL West-Mariners, Giants, A's, Rockies, Dodgers. NL West-Rangers, Diamondbacks, Astros, Angels, Padres. AL Central-White Sox, Tigers, Reds, Pirates, Indians. NL Central-Cubs, Cardinals, Twins, Brewers, Royals AL East-Nationals, Red Sox, Yankees, Blue Jays, Orioles NL East-Phillies, Braves, Rays, Mets, Marlins 2. Keep the current playoff format with the extra Wild Card. 3. DH in both leagues, Roster size changed to 26. Once you pull the starting pitcher, DH gets pulled as well. 4. All local broadcast revenue shared equally. 5. Keep Rose out. 6. Expand interleague so that every team plays all the teams in the other league every season. Schedule so that a given team hosts every other ML team at least once every two years. 7. MLB to locate or construct a neutral site stadium (Las Vegas? Mexico City? Dominican Republic?). The six or so teams with the lowest attendance to shift some of their home games to the neutral site. 8. First game of the World Series to be held at a prearranged, neutral site each year. Make a big deal about it like the Super Bowl. 9. White Elephant contract exchange. Each off season, teams may place a player they no longer want into the pool. Then each team that contributed a player must, in a lottery-assigned order, select a player back from the pool & become responsible for whatever contract that player has. 10. The last week of the schedule is left open for home & home series between the first & second place teams in each division. Third & fourth place play each other also; last place teams all play each other. 11. Internet broadcasts to be available in home markets.
23. Geno, nice to see you again. Seems like it was just yesterday we were wading through the ESPN boards!
