  1. The season ends and then we find out again that Braun was playing hurt. Big surprise. http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/257039266/brewers-ryan-braun-looks-back-on-2017-season/
  2. I knew there was $1 million in there somewhere, but it wasn't a buyout.
  3. Garza is contemplating retirement and has no option so 0% chance he is back. Walker wants to test the market, so I think he will sign elsewhere. Sogard and Swarzak have expressed a strong desire to resign, so I think they will be back.
  4. It also saves the $1 million buyout.
  5. And they are still paying him $2 million per year over the next 4 years in deferred money.
  6. Due to some complicated wording in the contract, because he reached 90 starts with the Brewers, his $5 million option is voided and he becomes a free agent. http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/256871878/brewers-matt-garza-headed-for-free-agency/?topicId=27118386
  7. Well Miller Park has been "home" for the Indians for 1 series.
  8. Who would have thought that they'd have their third winningest season in the past 25 years, not that that's saying much.
  9. The Dodgers need to win 2 to assure home field advantage in the world series. They will be playing this weekend. They also have almost a week off before the post season, so they will have plenty of time to rest players next week.
  10. Granted it's in limited at bats, but Phillips is leading the team in pitches per plate appearance. No surprise that Perez is last.
  11. The thing I struggle with is that I'd really like to see them improve their bad defense, but for the most part their best hitters are their worst defenders (Braun, Santana, Thames).
  12. I just bought 4 tickets for the first NLDS home game at Miller Park.
  13. I'm pretty sure Vogt is arby eligible and not a FA. I don't see Walker being back. Of all the free agents, I hope they resign Swarzak. I know bullpen guys are unpredictable, but he's the only guy in the bullpen who doesn't walk anyone.
  14. There are a few updates: http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/256229736/braun-knebel-perez-buy-brewers-fans-tickets/
  15. Yes! 2 starts by Davies in that stretch and then Anderson in the wild card game.
  16. Looking way ahead at the rotation the rest of the way, including playoffs. The big question is who starts a huge game against the Cards? Reds 9/26 - Davies 9/27 - Woodruff 9/28 - Suter Cards 9/29 - Anderson 9/30 - ? 10/1 - Davies That lines up Anderson to start the wild card game on 10/4 NLDS 10/6 - Davies 10/7 - Woodruff 10/9 - Anderson 10/10 - Davies on short rest? 10/12 - Woodruff
  17. Swarzak, Sogard and Walker are free agents. I can't see Walker back at his salary and I imagine Swarzak's price has gone up with how he's pitched with the Brewers. Sogard could be back, but do you go with him and Villar again or look elsewhere?
  18. The other factor is that all the new ballparks put fans right next to the foul line, much closer than they used to be. So you've got players hitting the ball harder and more fans in harm's way. So it's "reckless" to put a 2 year old close to the field. Was it reckless for an adult to sit there when they were hit by a broken bat?
  19. I was behind home plate, behind the netting. I didn't find it too distracting. I probably wouldn't do the field level until my kids are older, unless it was behind netting.
  20. I thought there was a thread on this, but I couldn't find it. The incident at Yankee Stadium where a little girl was hit in the head by a 105 mph line drive appears to be renewing the push to extend protective netting at all stadiums. Cincinnati, San Diego and Seattle will extend the netting by opening day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvTEEwlbltc You can't see too much in the stands, but the players are in tears. It's tough to watch, especially as a father of a 4 year old daughter who was recently at a game. Even if you are paying attention, there is no time to react to something hit that hard. And baseball teams are pushing you to use your smartphone during the game (bingo, posting your picture to Instagram, etc). The Miami series was one of the rare occasions where I got to sit right next to the field and I had trouble figuring out where some of the foul balls went. Incidents like this will happen more often, unless the netting is extended. And I think it is only a matter of time before all teams are forced to do it.
  21. Realistically how many innings can we expect from Hader if he starts next year, maybe 150-160? He won't hit 100 innings this year and his high was 126 last year. So if he does start, they will have to skip him or give him a few breaks here and there.
  22. It's pretty hard to look at stats and draw any conclusions due to his sporadic playing time. He's just now getting some regular playing time. But it was encouraging to see him battle to that 12 pitch walk last night.
  23. He broke his own record yesterday with 104.7. He now has the 3 hardest throws of the year. I can't find it now, but an article said he was hitting 92 as a pitcher at 14, but elbow soreness moved him to the outfield.
  24. It begins with the starting pitching. Anderson, Woodruff, Suter and Davies (and Nelson) are all under 2.7 BB/9 innings. Garza is 3.6, Guerra is 5.6. The bullpen is another story. Swarzak is at 1.2 BB/9 innings, everyone else is over 3.7. But perhaps he's rubbing off on the rest of the bullpen.
  25. I've only been to 2. I went to Jacobs Field back in the 90's when they were selling out every season. The place was rockin'. Don't remember much else. Went to Wriggley in the late 80's in a luxury box. I just remember the place being old and walking forever when we parked, but the food was good (because my uncle ran the food service). It felt like county stadium to me. I preferred Jacobs field.
