  1. I'm sad to see Mike go, I wish he was coming back to Milwaukee next season. At the same time, good for him for getting a 2 year deal, something he wasn't able to do the last time he was a free agent (although that was probably partially because of his impending (at the time) suspension).
  2. I just looked for their website, and yes, they still have an enormous slot car section, including HO scale. Those guys love slot cars (they still apparently have their 43 1/2 foot track that they let people rent out (though it apparently can only support 1/24 and 1/32 cars)) and if they don't know how to help you, they'll surely know someone who does.
  3. Where do you live? Cudahy News & Hobby used to have an extremely extensive slot car section, including a massive track setup in the basement. They moved to Greenfield (and changed their name) a few years ago and I haven't been there since but I assume they are still in to slot cars. I would give them a call if you are in the Milwaukee area.
  4. Sad to see Rivera go. I hope someone picks him up.
  5. I agree. I think he'd be a great signing for a couple million bucks. The problem is, at that price a lot of teams will be calling and if the price goes up, that makes him not such a great bargain. Also, he probably won't be ready until May, but I don't think that's a huge deal. Until last year, he was far better than Randy Wolf in his career. I think he's worth a shot.
  6. Thank goodness we Brewer fans dodged that bullet. We did our 2 years, it's time we were released from the prison known as "watching Jason Kendall play every day for no discernible reason". I feel so sorry for Royals fans, they have to watch so many awful players on their team. At least they dumped Mike Jacobs.
  7. How would you define it? My dictionary says "of moderate quality", and then defines moderate as "average in amount, intensity, quality".
  8. I agree. (When I said 4 wins, I was only talking about the 2 guys signed during the winter meetings and the 2 they replaced.)
  9. With the signings of Wolf and Hawkins to replace Looper and McClung, the Brewers probably improved on last year's team by 4-5 wins. That's pretty significant, although a lot of that has to do with how execrable Looper and McClung were last year. I don't know if that's enough to call them winners but they did appear to improve (ignoring other factors such as whether those moves were the best possible use of their budget, etc.).
  10. I agree 100%. It's reasonable to compare Wolf to Suppan because, although Wolf is better than Suppan was, the thought process behind the signing is the same.
  11. I didn't know that those 3 words could go together.
  12. I'd just stop in the lot and sleep in my car unless the clerk rousted me, then I might risk the $20 room. I once was driving in a snowstorm on I-43 when the snow got so bad that most people had to pull over and wait on the side of the road. While we were stopped, there was a minor 10 or so car pileup going the opposite direction directly across from us. 20 seconds later, a semi truck came around the bend and drove right through the pile-up. He appeared to speed up rather than slow down, I assume so as to not jackknife. The cars went flying like bowling pins. If he had come through a minute later, people probably would have been out of their cars inspecting the damage and they would have been killed. Ever since then, I don't like to take chances in inclement weather.
  13. Wow! Thanks so much everybody! I can't wait to order one from somewhere, or maybe I'll see if I can find a Cracker Barrel. Thanks again!

  16. Somebody in the Wolf thread said that that was a very inside the box move. This is even more of an inside the box idea. Hawkins will probably be OK but will he really be worth the money he's getting? Is there any chance that he'll outperform his contract?
  17. Yeah, I was clearly out of my mind to say that. Sometimes the voices in my head get a little outlandish. My bad.
  18. No it's not. Nobody is saying that Wolf is exactly the same pitcher that Suppan was at the time of his signing. What they're (or at least, I'm) saying is that Wolf is the same general type of mid-level, average-ish pitcher. Slightly above average, whereas Suppan was slightly below average. I would have thought that Suppan failing so spectacularly would have clued Doug into the idea that signing average guys to market value contracts carries more risk than reward and that it's not a fruitful way to tie up 25% of your budget, but apparently not.
  19. Obviously, but they just used most of their budget for improvements on this move. Now they'll sign a reliever and call it a day. I hope Melvin can pull off a shocking trade but I won't hold my breath.
  20. Yup. With a bad economy it's obvious that sales tax revenues will be down. If the economy rebounds soon, tax revenues will climb and the district will get more than they "expected".
  21. Lackluster. The deal probably won't end up as bad as Suppan's but the Brewers needed to do more. It's just depressing to follow this team.
  22. I'll take Church any day. Giles looks done.
  23. I disagree. I mean mediocre in the neutral sense, not the disparaging one.
  24. yes. The difference is slighter than what the difference in their contracts will be. that will also likely be the case for many other pitchers signed this off-season. Paying a premium for mediocrity doesn't work.
