  1. Seems pretty good for both sides. Not sure I would have agreed to a club option if I was MCutchen though.
  2. I only have 2 baseball books that I really consider classics that I like to re-read and those are Ball Four by Jim Bouton and Nine Innings by Daniel Okrent (which coincidentally takes County Stadium as its setting). The New Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract is also pretty interesting because it tries to rank the best players at every position and it gives a little overview of most notable players in history. The recent biographies of Sandy Koufax, Roberto Clemente, Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantle, etc. that have been written by various acclaimed authors have been uniformly disappointing. I would give them a pass.
  3. I can never resist the siren call of a shuffle thread. 1. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out- The Smiths (funny that that happened after #25 in the OP) 2. Letter To B.I.G.- Jadakiss 3. The White Dove- The Stanley Brothers 4. Shahdaroba- Roy Orbison 5. Ice Pick- Albert Collins 6. The Christian Life- The Byrds 7. Commando- The Ramones 8. Rock And Roll Doctor- Little Feat 9. Crash Your Crew- GZA 10. Osage Stomp- Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys 11. La Dama De Rojo- Los Huracanes Del Norte 12. Beautiful Brother Of Mine- Curtis Mayfield 13. Nikki Nikki- Vikrant Singh 14. Dreadlocks The Time Is Now- The Gladiators 15. Ek Baar Jan E Jana- Asha Bhosle 16. I've Had It- The Bell Notes 17. Reoccurring Dreams- Hüsker Dü 18. If I Give My Heart To You- Solomon Burke 19. Cut Your Hair- Pavement 20. Hawaiian War Chant- The Waikikis 21. Brandy Alexander- The Walkmen 22. Ventura- Lucinda Williams 23. Wanted For Life- Brian Eno & David Byrne 24. Turn It On- Sleater-Kinney 25. 3000- Kool Keith
  4. Some guy at the Apple store told me that contracts weren't necessary for the 3G thing, that you could just get it for a month if you were going on a road trip or whatever. What do you mean about widgets? The iPad doesn't have them? And what is rooting? What you describe sounds very convenient. Is it difficult to do that? And to casey- I was kind of more talking about the apps in terms of functionality. Is there a large difference in price/availibility in terms of getting the popular/useful ones on android vs. apple? Sorry guys, I know these are basic questions, I just don't really know anything about tablets.
  5. Any word yet on the iPad 3? I want to get a tablet to watch games on (going with the broadband Extra Innings instead of the cable one this season) but I don't really know anything about them. I like the Macs I have but I also like my Android phone so I don't really know which direction to go. Any advice would be useful. I'm especially interested in which platform is more fully functional in terms of getting to that point for the least additional outlay of cash. I don't mind spending on hardware but I don't want to have to spend another few hundred bucks in software to make a tablet useful. Also, although I plan to use the tablet only around the house, would it be better to pay the extra for 3G or 4G capability just in case? edit: additionally, if the iPad 3 is launching in 2 weeks, as I just saw was rumored, is there any possibility of actually getting one any time soon (say, before the MLB season starts) without having to sleep in line at an Apple store for a week?
  6. I would not hold Greinke back. I think, with so few games left in the season (as little as 2, as many as 10), a team should be trying to win each one. And I'm not super enthusiastic about Zack pitching at home after how horrible he's been in the post-season. I think that, at this point, he'll either turn it around or not and it won't really matter whether he's at home or on the road. It would be really nice if he could live up to the Fangraphs "most dominating pitcher in baseball" title tonight though (they have him with the best xFIP in MLB).
  7. I see now that they announced it a couple days ago but they wouldn't have actually broken it until tonight. They were 38,000 some behind 2008 going into tonight but I guess they had already sold those tickets.
  8. Any word on attendance? Did they get the franchise record?
  9. In the Miami New Times article that obsessedwithbrewcrew linked, there is a picture of the Marlins scoreboard misspelling Logan Morrison's name last night and Morrison's picture on the scoreboard has a blue/orange background, just like endaround was talking about. Funny.
  10. First Randy Moss's career is ended by a caterer, now Mike Cameron's by a flight attendant. I don't know what to think.
  11. I'm always amazed at how many people in positions of responsibility lack even a hint of common sense. I don't get it.
  12. These are all great suggestions guys, thank you! Anybody have any ideas for paintings or sculptures? I know Cezanne is known for his still lifes so I'm looking at some of those, but any other thoughts would be much appreciated.
  13. Hi everybody- I'm helping my wife with an art project for her job. I'm trying to think of artwork and album covers that feature fruits and/or vegetables, which she plans to make into a wall display. I've thought of a few things (Velvet Underground & Nico, Magritte's Son of Man, etc.) but I would really appreciate everybody's suggestions. Thanks!
  14. That's interesting, especially because I'm pretty sure I read a "vote of confidence" quote from Ricketts within the last month. It's pretty crooked to claim a guy will still be working for you next year when you've already fired him.
  15. Are you really surprised that people tend to feel better about the team when the team is playing better?
  16. The notable thing about the current record holder, Bill Bergen, is that he is commonly considered the worst hitter of all-time (that and the fact that his brother was a major leaguer as well as an insane axe murderer who killed his wife and children one off-season).
  17. I can't speak for anyone else but I clicked on it because I was curious to see what people's opinions of the company were. Every time I'm back in Milwaukee, I'm inundated with their advertising (seriously, when they launched in 2008(I think?), the city seemed totally plastered in ads for them) so I was just wondering if it was a reputable company or not.
  18. Is there a source for the $1 thing? On the JS article I saw, the author speculates that $50,000 is the price. edit: never mind, I found a Sporting News article about it. Pretty funny.
  19. Nice of you to call him dumb and crazy. In that context, I can't blame players for anything they say to the fans because fans have no problem insulting the players.
  20. Here's an article about the lack of a home run derby "hangover".
  21. Dunn would be loving a .750 OPS now.
  22. I like Betemit more as a replacement for Wilson and as a bench bat than I do as a starter. Still, he would be an upgrade over McGehee at this point. It would depend on what KC wants back.
  23. There's no way Bedard will be a salary dump. The reason for that is that his salary is $1 million. There are some incentives in the deal but they're likely the same kind of incentives he had in past years (games, days active, innings pitched) meaning he isn't likely to earn that many of them. I like the idea of getting him though. On the other hand, I wouldn't relish having to count on him down the stretch (or in the playoffs (hopefully)).
  24. Hey, come on guys, Roenicke said that Helton had been 1 for 4 against Loe. You just can't argue with that kind of track record of success for Loe.
  25. Good for JJ that he finally found a team that apparently wants him. I think it was a bad move financially though. He surely would have easily beat that contract on the open market if he stayed healthy the last 2.5 months of the season.
