  1. There is almost no comparison of a steel pan to anything else in the percussion world. The layout of notes is insanely different when compared to any pitched instrument and yes the first person who managed to create and become the master tuner of drums did indeed play and write great music for pan. You have enough different voices among steel pans such as tenor, double tenors, bass and a myriad of others that it is routinely noted for being the most recent pitched instrument created. Not only that, virtuosic players are much fewer and farther between than any other instrument because of the relative lack of teachers and performers.
  2. The steel pan having been invented approximately 70 years ago as the newest pitched instrument in Trinidad and Tobago is in the last 100 years and has a virtuoso Liam Teague who teaches the NIU steel band. I think if you look up his credits and some videos on youtube you will change your tune.
  3. Good composers write, great composers steal. As the old joke in Music School composition classes goes, a Grad student waited until the last minute to write his final piece for his Masters of Composition degree and thinking he was slick went to the library and using his Professor's orchestral work, did a retrograde inversion the final night and turned in his work to the jury panel of music prof's. After 2 minutes of looking through his compositions, the professor's told him that his work was no big deal since he simply copied down by hand Beethoven's 3rd Symphony.
  4. No Offense = No Playoffs
  5. Where do you do this at? That is exactly what I started to do as a major in college but changed to business after my Junior year. <---------------- Outside Sales Professional in the Fox Valley (Office Products, Furniture and Janitorial products). Are there any buyers in here? I teach in Brookfield and still do a couple lessons for WFB students that came to me when I had a house on top of UWM during college. The drumlines are Brookfield Central, New Berlin Eisenhower and Palmyra-Eagle. I have to ask if your picture is from Oktoberfest in Lax since that's one of the few parades where t-shirts and beer cans in hand are allowed. (as if the drumline doesn't have a flask in their stick bags)
  6. This team completely lacks any smarts when it comes to plate appearances and when to wait for a pitch, like the latest horrible AB by Rickie.
  7. <----- Drum Instructor, Freelance performer, marching percussion writer. Run my own studio for private drum lessons and teach 3 area HS drumlines.
  8. There is no point in going to Orlando if you don't go to any of the parks or golf. I fully second the Islands of Adventure being worth your while. So is the Sea World right on International Dr. Go to Downtown Disney (not a park) and see the Cirque du Soleil performance. You'll be glad you spent the money. Otherwise there might be something at the House of Blues which is next door.
  9. Actually, it was cheap, how could a power play in the 4th OT not be?
  10. I want to know why seemingly everyone in this thread assumes the Brewers could basically take the Cubs revenue for themselves? I'm fairly certain that MLB would broker a deal that covers the cost of stadium use, staff, food etc. but the dollars above that would go to the Cubs as that would be the revenue they would normally generate in their stadium. By covering the excess costs in having 81 more games in Miller Park, the Cubs would then become the de facto landlord for those dates and take the revenue generated. The community at large would feel a major impact in restaurant, retail, and hotel/housing business and that can't be understated. MLB would not allow one club to gouge another in this situation.
  11. Nabokov saved the season, but Turco with his jump kick spread eagle saved the game for Dallas. And yes I'm still watching in 3OT at 12:45am!
  12. Damian Miller is going to be our manager?
  13. The derby is run on real dirt instead of the waxed sand and fiber sythetic.
  14. In Eau Claire you can't even get close to the water and be headed to a housing site. You'd fall and tumble down some rocks and still land on flat ground 50 feet from the water if you even tried while drunk.
  15. Unfortunately I couldn't find a picture but, a 1983 Buick LeSabre Station wagon with Maroon paint, fake wood paneling and a big block V8 to accompany the air horn. Most humiliating driving experience of my life was Junior year (1995-96) I was elected to drive to lunch during exams which is the only open campus period all year at Brook Central because my wagon held the most people. The car still had power but the vacuum was failing the acceleration and as I turned from Calhoun onto Bluemound with the pedal on the floor sliding around the turn, one of my friends said to step on it. All I could do was turn around and say "I am." That car emptied my wallet as it would only run on premium (~1.35 a gal, who wouldn't kill for that now?) and got 7 miles to the gallon. Senior year I was allowed to sell the wagon and buy a 1992 Plymouth Sundance which was my little white rocket two door. Since then a whole bunch of vehicles bringing me to my current ride I bought last May, a 2001 Acura MDX Touring Package.
  16. Like his ability to walk down stairs?
  17. With any contractors and bidding, ask for homes with addresses and phone numbers of their previous customers and check out their work. Any good contractor will be happy to give you this information because good work and word of mouth is really important.
  18. You need to set your cable box to output 16:9 and what connection are you using (HDMI, Component RGB)? I need more info to really help you. Also you will not be able to change the view on 531 for a Brewers game that's being simulcast on the HD channel as a SD signal. Just make sure your cable box is set correctly and your non-HD content should automatically scale to fill your screen.
  19. Disgusting, Utley non-chalants a DP ball and throws it away.

  22. At least Ned is managing like a genius today struck by lightning. He must have a very large bottle on the bench to catch it all.
  23. They're gonna leave him in?! NEDLY!!
