  1. I'm a few years older, and the show is definitely a guilty pleasure when I see it on the TiVo. There are some storylines that just don't work for me (ake-fay regnancy-pay), but those are easily offset by moments like Jane Lynch's character declaring - on a local TV news segment - that there should be a holiday on which she would not have to see ugly or fat people. (My only disappointment is that Jane Lynch can't take part in season 2 of 'Party Down' because of her time commitment on Glee.)
  2. 1. Read My Mind - The Killers 2. White and Nerdy - Weird Al Yankovic 3. Something So Strong - Crowded House 4. Vertigo - U2 5. Hysteria - Def Leppard 6. Superstar - Saliva 7. Don't Shoot Me Santa - The Killers 8. Graduate - Third Eye Blind 9. The Rock Show - Blink 182 10. That's What You Get - Paramore 11. Pinch Me - Barenaked Ladies 12. Still Alive - GLaDOS & Jonathan Coulton 13. A Dustland Fairytale - The Killers 14. The Unforgiven II - Metallica 15. Jump - Van Halen 16. Buddy Holly - Weezer 17. Brian Wilson - Barenaked Ladies (Kinda disappointed I didn't get a single Rick Astley song, all of which I own non-ironically.)
  3. ...waiting for confirmation of the deal, before I start contemplating possible locations for the "Wolf Pack" section. That said, I'm not sure I love this deal for $9 mil / year. I do see the similarities to Suppan's deal; Jeff's last 5 seasons prior to signing with the Brewers: 4.12 (2006), 3.57 ('05), 4.17 ('04), 4.19 ('03), 5.32 ('02...so I'm not accused of skewing the data to fit my point). Wolf's last 5 seasons: 3.23, 4.30, 4.73, 5.56, 4.39. Aside from the year immediately preceeding the contract, Suppan appears to be the better pitcher.....and those numbers don't factor Suppan's post-season success. Moreover, Wolf is older now than Suppan was when he signed his contract. The major differences, and the reason why I have cause for optimism, are that Wolf is a lefty, and has better peripheral numbers (K/9, K/BB) than does Suppan. Also, Wolf doesn't make quite as much as Suppan does....and it's only a 3-year deal.
  4. Driving in to work this morning, it occurred to me that I left out the music/comedy album I picked up this year, "Incredibad" by the Lonely Island. Santana DVX is probably the highlight for people who already know the SNL sketches. (Not suitable for work or younger audiences.) Dream Girl (f/ Norah Jones) is probably more of an all-audience friendly song.
  5. In terms of beating Duke in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, no one had been there before. I didn't expect Wisconsin to shoot well enough to hold their own against the Blue Devils (with the ugly black uniforms...I miss the royal blue days of the 90s). They went wire-to-wire against one of the top programs of the past decade, held off a series of late rallies, what looked like questionable whistles, and actually had fewer FTAs than the other team in the Kohl Center for the first time in I don't know how long. Add to it the national audience, and the #5 ranking, and I'm not going to condemn college kids from celebrating the win on the floor. (Then again, I remember running out onto the Kohl Center court twice as a student to celebrate Big Ten titles, so I'm probably a bit biased in favor of the practice.)
  6. 1. Gone Baby Gone 2. No Country for Old Men 3. Lord of the Rings Trilogy (not ranking them individually) 4. The Bourne Supremacy 5. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 6. Walk the Line 7. Gladiator 8. Iron Man 9. Casino Royale 10.Spider-Man 2
  7. Nearly everything that I can think of for consideration actually came out in 2008. My favorite song that I heard in 2008 is "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon, but that was technically released last December. The Killers last album was out in November, as was the song "After Hours" by We Are Scientists. The only 2009 Album I've actually purchased is "Brand New Eyes" by Paramore. I love about 90% of that album, though it's a bit self-indulgent in the later tracks. I have a hard time picking a favorite song out of the first 5 tracks. (Yeah, I'm in that narrow category of people who like alternative rock, but only gets exposure to the bands that get radio/tv airtime.) Really ought to track down more Silversun Pickups songs, since I liked "Panic Switch" quite a bit. Very torn on "Uprising" the first song from Muse's album. Musically, I like it quite a bit. Lyrically, it captures a mood well, while at the same time being so generic as to apply to anything from teens being emo to an alien invasion. Still, late '08 or early '09 was the first time I saw the video for "Knights of Cydonia," so they get a pass for the rest of their careers from me. Other songs that I like enough to give a passing mention: "Wheels," by the Foo Fighters (not as heavy as their best stuff, but still acceptable), "Fixer" by Pearl Jam, and "Waking up in Vegas" by Katy Perry (which is more of a guilty acceptance that she can sing, which makes me dislike her first single even more). Also, 2009 is the year that Lady GaGa....happened. I really don't know if that's a good thing, or not, but someone needed to point it out.
  8. The past three days (Friday - Sunday) have been a giant blur of Assassin's Creed II-induced addiction. R&C is on hold, probably about halfway through. It's not a bad game....it's just that I don't trust myself to avoid Assassin's Creed 2 spoilers long enough to delay playing. I've also noticed that - of the games I've recently purchased (AC 2, R&C F:ACiT, Uncharted 2), there seems to be a glut of good platformers out there. Unfortunately, I have a hard time going from platformer-to-platformer....so I'm not quite sure what I'll be playing next on the consoles. Sidenote: I have picked up my copy of Final Fantasy 6 Advance (on my DS) while in the car (not driving) or watching TV. If that isn't my favorite game of all time, I'm at a loss to name a game that I preferred to it. Oddly enough, though, since the battery died on my SNES cart back in the day, I've never finished the game.
  9. ...or, at the very least, stop taking 3's (1-10 v. 9-14 all last season). I'd be fine with the dunks if he could manage to get them to go in; it's supposed to be a high percentage shot. Stop trying to be Mark Vershaw!
  10. Classic Badgers win against Arizona. Defense gets the big lead; Hughes carries the offensive load, and they gut out a win despite being in serious foul trouble the whole way.
  11. As long as he doesn't need a spot on the 40-man roster, I really don't see the harm in getting adding to the pitching depth in AAA.
  12. This should blunt any criticism of his off-the-field activities....
  13. I haven't yet, and even if I do end up picking it up over the weekend, I won't get to it for awhile. Hit a stopping point in my playthrough of Uncharted 1, and have recently started Rachet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time first. As someone who had fun reading the things people parsed out of the end for the original game, I'm really looking forward to jumping into Assassin's Creed 2 when I get around to it. Given the number of games I have already {R&C, Fallout 3 GotY edition, Uncharted 2, Prof. Layton 2 on the DS, plus I still want to go back and play the DLC add-ons to Valkyria Chronicles at some point}, that may take awhile. I have a lot of gaming stuff to do before March 9, 2010 (Final Fantasy XIII U.S. release date). Don't kick yourself too hard about not buying AC2 during the Best Buy deal; the game only came out this Tuesday, so it wasn't available during the sale. The best deals I've seen for the game are $10 gift cards with purchase - The Best Buy version of the deal runs through saturday, and requires a coupon from the (free) Rewards Zone gamer's club; Target is supposed to be running a similar deal on Black Friday. Considering I bought AC1 when it went on sale after Christmas (either late December or early January), I'm hoping to do something similar this time around.
  14. From the picture, trying to figure out if I'm parking in the Damian Miller lot, or the Miller Brewing lot. (I should probably put that in blue, but the new naming makes it funnier this way.)
  15. Ouch, my head hurts. Then allow me to translate: Feel any better?
  16. Tell that to Josh Gasser. While I'm not about to predict an NBA career for the kid, he's clearly got talent (2-time All State honors from the J-S), he can shoot, play D and rebound. Sounds like the perfect Bo Ryan type kid. That said, I'm guessing Bo's original plan was to have Diamond Taylor back up the point for at least a year, so the move-in day fiasco has left them a bit thinner than we'd all like. As for the other guard spots, Jarmusz and Rob Wilson (who I'm hoping for a Leuer-like progression from) can play either the 2 or the 3.
  17. I can see why Lackey's agent would want to portray the Yankees as having an interest, but the Yankees already have C.C., Burnett, Chamberlin, and Hughes for their rotation. I would likewise guess they can get Andy Pettitte to sign for half of what Lackey is asking for. Realistically, if Lackey can't get Burnett-type money from a handful of teams (The 4 teams between LA and NY, Cubs, Boston, Philadelphia, maybe Atlanta, and I'm probably forgetting another team or two) ... he's just not going to get that size of a contract. If the Yankees are satisfied with their pitching staff, you no longer have to outbid the top club to sign Lackey.
  18. If you're concerned about spyware / the NIC interfering with startup, I'd at least try starting it up with the computer disconnected from the network (either by unplugging the ethernet cable, or turning off the wireless access point). I'd be surprised if that does help (since a computer that can't start wouldn't seem to have much value to the hacker/spyware architect), but it wouldn't seem to hurt things.
  19. In retrospect, I almost wonder if the Brewers would have been better off making the Mekly Cabrera / Cameron swap last off-season. Cabrera isn't as good as Gomez defensively, and has more ML service time....but Cabrera has been about 40 points higher in OBP over his career to-date, and is a switch hitter. Both players had disappointing seasons at age 23. Plus, had the Brewers made that swap, they'd still have Hardy to trade....for whatever else was on the table. Acquiring someone with even more range than Cameron makes me wonder whether Corey Hart is a non-tender candidate. Two straight years of ~ .750 OPS in a corner outfield position should be replaceable....and may have to be given the Escobar/Gomez/Catcher/pitcher bottom of the lineup. The Brewers can get by with less speed in right field with Gomez covering the alleys for the next few seasons. I think the talk of a glut of non-tenders is a sign that MLB salaries may be facing a correction this year (for the 'middle class' player, not the John Lackeys of the world). Is Hart's production really worth $3+ million? Of course, that decision may hinge on what the Brewers do with Felipe Lopez, and how healthy they expect Rickie Weeks to be by opening day.
  20. Is this necessary? In all fairness, you could say the same thing about three-quarters of this thread.
  21. Watched last week's episode after hearing so much good word of mouth for the show. Didn't really do anything for me. Kinda chuckled at the flute part, and the end scene with the cops, and Julie Bowen is easy on the eyes....but I just don't see the 'there' there. (I'll stay out of the thread beyond this...don't want to troll...but I'm curious if other people have felt likewise.)
  22. As a guy who's eaten at Brett F***e's Steakhouse (best not mention his full name, given the happening on Sunday) and at Ditka's (friend's bachelor party - who isn't even a Bears fan, interestingly enough)....I think it's mostly par for an athlete to name the place after themselves. (I seem to recall Suppan having his own place in Southern California, so I assume there's been a conversation there.)
  23. 1) So did I. (Acutally, I went to a TRU on the last day of the sale, only to find that they were sold out of the 3 games I was planning on buying. 2) The Best Buy site won't have it until the new weekly ad goes live on Sunday morning. When it does, the page will look a lot like this. They don't list their ads early, leaving it to sites like CAG to track down the sales before they're public knowledge.
  24. Just thought I should point out, it appears as though Best Buy will be holding a "Buy 2, Get 1 free" on video games $59.99 or less starting on Sunday (10/25). For anyone - like me - who missed out on the same sale when Toys R Us had one earlier this month, this is a chance to make up for that oversight. (For the record: Uncharted 2, R & C Future: A Crack In Time, and Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition, assuming they're all available. The new R & C game ships on Tuesday.)
  25. So, Kyles / Peterson will be responsible for teaching our pitchers proper mechanics. (I'll let that one sink in, for those of us who have been Brewer fans for at least a decade now.)
