  1. I think we're all overlooking the obvious: Craig Counsell only has 1 AB with the bases loaded this year.
  2. Isn't it amazing, in retrospect, how much angst Helms had for not living up to his contract....when he was "only" making 3-4 million a year? Never mind that his 3 seasons in Milwaukee were the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th best (from an OPS standpoint) of his career. His mistake was having a really good first year, which he couldn't live up to. To be honest, I had forgotten that he hit 23 homers as a Brewer, much less that many in one year (2003). I get that Wes is - at best - an average major league backup, but I never understood the booing (particularly on opening day, while still in a Brewer uniform).
  3. Completely agree. Not sure how it is that this movie was written by the same duo who write Fringe and the Transformers movies....as this one was actually really good.
  4. The guy's slider is so good it breaks his arm to throw it. Fox was always one of my favorite relievers when he was a Brewer, so it was tough to see that pitch & know he's going back on the DL.
  5. Might I recommend a TiVo and/or a PS3?
  6. http://www.nodoubt.com/tour/Default.aspx?pg=2 No Doubt is playing the Marcus Ampetheater on July 2, with Paramore opening for them. I don't know who "Guster" is, but I daresay that they're not the headliner for that particular night.
  7. Checking my e-mail this afternoon, I see a message from one of my cousins congratulating me on winning the Brewers Home Run Inning contest, and that her boyfriend heard it announced during the broadcast. The message was from yesterday, so I'm guessing it covers either Tuesday's game (Hart, Hall in the 6th inning) or Wednesday (Yo in the 7th). Of course, I tuned in to yesterday's game just after the homer, and I usually watch the games on TV....so I have no clue whether this is actually true. I haven't seen / heard anything from Journal Communications about the contest, but they could just be sending something through the mail. This prompts two questions: 1) Has anyone else ever won one of the radio contests during the games? How did they contact you? 2) Does anyone remember hearing a winner to the HR Inning contest in the past few days? I'd love to get my hands on a copy of the audio (through legal means, mind you) if this is true. EDIT: Found it myself! (2:39 in) :D I've been told (by my boss) that I was a contestant during the '3 bagger in the 3rd' contest last season, but I missed that one as well. I'm both excited and curious to find out if this is true.
  8. Hitting kroll's for lunch today. Sidenote: boring conference + iPod touch = awesome!
  9. My understanding is also that Charles will go back to his 'new' job (Jan and Ryan's old one). I actually liked just how stupid Dwight made Charles look in this episode; it's just another one of the small touches that shows that Michael is an effective people manager, even if not the most productive personally. Also, what the heck is the character-development arc for Ryan? 3 weeks ago, he was working at a bowling alley....now he's upset that he's getting a stable, new job at a place that has no business hiring him? Pam working in sales could be interesting, as well....though I wouldn't be surprised if she were the receptionist again by next season.
  10. http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=18402 This was already being discussed over in the minor league forum. I'll admit, I considered putting it in the major league forum, but the connection to a Brewers prospect outweighed Lenny's being a former player.

  12. ...based on the ESPN.com article about Cutter Dykstra's father & his various legal disputes. I'm reminded of Prince Fielder and his father, but fortunately Lenny isn't Cutter's agent.
  13. Just because I remain curious, I'm going to post Hart's Plate Discipline #s from Fangraphs (the link is in my first e-mail). I'm curious to see if a larger sample does ultimately cause him to revert to previous years form. 27.0 OSwing% 64.2 ZSwing% 44.2 Swing% 36.7 OContact% 86.9 ZContact% 70.3 Contact% 46.1 Zone% 60.3 F-Strike% One of the things that really stuck out at me - to the point that I remember it, even though I didn't post it - was that Hart's Zone % was around 40% (about 13% off his career number, and 11% lower than the lowest season of his career). During the first few weeks of the season, pitchers were throwing him more balls than strikes. As that seems to be leveling off, Hart's swinging at pitches outside the zone at near exactly the rate he has for the rest of his MLB career; his strikeouts are up, and he has only walked once in the past week. I'm sticking with this thread, mainly because I find it interesting, but also because I'm hoping other people will follow my lead and post those numbers off fangraphs every few weeks. I'd love to see what kinds of trends develop as the sample size increases; will there be a reversion to the mean, or the same signs of optimism which insipred the thread in the first place?
  14. Jeffress Salome Rogers Odorizzi Lawrie
  15. Wasn't the 'original' rally rabbit some sort of a fan video? About the only other mention that comes to mind would be the guys from the paper company who used donate signs for the buckethead nights....but I don't remember names.
  16. ESPN.com (Stats, Inc.) includes p/IP in their player stats. Since an inning is 3 outs, it's essentially the same stat. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/pitching?sort=pitchesPerInning&split=0&league=mlb&season=2009&seasonType=2&type=pitch3&ageMin=17&ageMax=51&hand=a&pos=all&minip=0&qual=false&count=338 I don't know that the stat itself has SABRmetric value; about the only thing I really use it for is figuring out how many innings a starting pitcher averages (#p/GS divided by p/IP).
  17. Just to point it out, the pilot is available as a free download on iTunes. Watched it...not overly impressed...but I'll keep watching.
  18. Someone should also point out that he's seeing the ball so well that his strikeout rate is also up. I don't want to start the "are strikeouts bad" discussion, so much as I want to refute the notion that Corey has suddenly developed a heightened appreciation for what pitches are and are not strikes. Looking at the Fangraphs, his O-Swing % thusfar have barely moved from his career numbers. (He's actually swinging at slightly less of everything....which wouldn't be a bad thing, and explains in part why he's seeing more pitches.) I don't think he's discovered plate discipline, so much as he's just being thrown more pitches outside of the zone.
  19. With the Brewer game last night, I first got around to the new episode this morning. All I'll say is, go back to post # 39. Not sure I get the endgame here....but still watching anyway.
  20. Just to try and contribute something new to this thread, here's how Suppan started 2008: April Splits - 34.2 IP, 6 GS, 5.19 ERA, 5 HR, 11 BB, 12 K Looking at the game log, he had 4 quality starts, and two severe beatings (including giving up 11 runs on 11 hits to the Cubs, also in 3 2/3 Innings. By that standard, he's actually improving). I think the odds are slightly better that he rebounds and falls more into line with our expectations than he continues to fall apart. One quality start would go a long way in changing perspectives on the guy.
  21. At least he went out doing what he loved. I saw that the AP said he was hospitalized, but this sounds pretty official.
  22. Bad timing for a "Hang with 'em" AB out of Hardy....that was almost a run.
  23. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/giants/detail?blogid=22&entry_id=38321 For anyone wondering about the pitcher Cameron hit in Thursday's game; I didn't see a thread about it. I just hope he is able to have a more successful return to the mound than ex-Brewer Bryce Florie when something similar happened to him (while with the Red Sox, if memory serves).
  24. I'm starting to think the Brewers should field 9 pitchers against the Big Unit from now on. (McClung got 2 hits last year, and now Yo goes Yard.)
