  1. they changed the fukudome groundball in the ninth from an error on weeks to a base hit. Make it an error at first so ax doesn't get any earned runs....but then once he gets out of the jam take away the error to help out rickie. nice home cooking there.
  2. So Arizona deserves no credit...? How was that not a great pitching performance? Just sick of hearing the company line by our announcers. I could cut them more slack and give more credit to the opposing team if I wasn't witnessing one of the worst road teams in all of baseball. This is getting old...everyone is a Cy Young against our lineup when we're on the road. Well, Collmenter's last start was six shutout innings in Milwaukee. He's pitching really good and seems to have the Brewers number. He pitched great again tonight. I'm not trying to give the offense a pass, because they looked really flat...but Collmenter was great tonight. Just because it sounds like a company line doesn't mean it's not true.

  4. Arizona announcers: "Betancourt came over from Seattle as something of a defensive wizard..." facepalm.
  5. Not that I'm happy about Kotsay in the 3 hole (not even close), but so long as Braun is out there's going to be one spot in 1 through 5 that is going to be depressing. Really no way to avoid it.Morgan, Weeks, Hart, Fielder, Lucroy. Nope you are wrong. Completely avoidable.Lucroy batting fifth would be better than Kotsay third....but I still wouldn't be happy with Lucroy batting fifth. He's really been struggling since June started, and I don't expect him to start hitting like he was at the start of the season. I have nothing against Lucroy and think he's going to be an important part of the team for a while...but a .320 OBP and .400 SLG doesn't scream 5 hitter to me. There are definitely better options than Kotsay third. But that doesn't mean they're good ones.

  7. Because they have a top 100 prospect who is blocked by Headley who's absolutely raking at AA(and just got promoted to AAA). It would make a lot of sense to trade him. Again, a package of Heckathorn, a GB pitcher for that massive park with good stuff would be an excellent fit. Scooter Gennett is another guy who I think fits in very well at Petco with his gap power. Could easily see him racking up 40 dbls down the road playing there. George Kottaras or Maldonado to give them some catching depth they lack. And then Bartlett is also blocking one of their top young prospects and he's got very little value. Just because there's a prospect raking doesn't mean they have to deal Headley. He's been the best hitter in their lineup this season and he's under team control for three more years. Move him to a corner outfield when Darnell is ready (or just put Darnell there when he's called up...idk enough about Darnell's defense relative to Headley). I suppose it could make sense to trade Headley, but I think given his production/contract status it would take waaaaay more than what people are proposing (though to be fair your proposal might at least be in the ballpark). They might listen to offers, but it's not like they're shopping him. I think they'd want a piece that could be a significant part of their future, and I don't think the Brewers have many players who fit that description in their system.
  8. I think there are some in their organization who really like Lombardozzi...so they want to call him up and move Espinosa to short. I don't think they're actively shopping him, and they're not going to trade him just to trade him. Cheap SS with good speed and some power have a lot of value, even when they're struggling. The nationals aren't stupid, they know that. But they would definitely listen to offers, even if it meant selling low on him. There's just no way they're going to sell THAT low and trade him for a guy like Gomez or one of our 4th OFer type prospects.
  9. Desmond has been awful this season, but he would still probably be a small upgrade over Yuni. He walks a little bit more (who doesn't) and strikes out a TON. I think a .250/.300/.370 line would be about what he'll put up for the rest of the year. It's not all that different than Yuni (slightly higher OBP, slightly lower SLG), but Desmond would do it with better speed and average defense. It would be a fairly minor upgrade for this season, but it would also potentially solve a long term hole at SS. Desmond won't hit arbitration til 2013, and has the potential to hit for a decent average (.270 last year) with good speed and some power (10 HR last year, many think he could be a 15+ HR guy down the road. At least before this season they did...). I think because of that potential I don't think it will be as easy to acquire him as some are making it sound...The nats have soured on him a little, but it's still going to take a lot more than a guy like Gomez, Komatsu, or Schafer
  10. Chase Headley has arguably been the Padres best player this season. He's entering the prime of his career, plays a premium position (look how bad offensive 3B numbers are throughout the league. it's not just McGehee), and is arbitration eligible for the next three seasons. Why would they trade him at all, let alone for a mediocre 2B/utility prospect (.712 career minor league OPS), a 28 year old minor leaguer, along with McGehee and/or Betancourt? 2 players with no future in our organization + 1 major leaguer who is struggling terribly for a team's best (or 2nd best) player is the definition of a junk for gold deal.
  11. maybe it's just me, but I'm pretty content with 6 IP, 0 ER and 8 K.
  12. Wieters, Markakis, Jones, and Hardy make a solid core, to go along with a young pitching staff. Reynolds is having a good year. The Orioles are always trying to spend money, what's to stop them from trying to sign a guy like Prince to really turn that lineup into something special? I don't think it's a terrible idea for them to extend Hardy. And they can probably get it done at a fair price because I'm sure JJ would like some stability for the first time in a few seasons.
  13. I guess there's a small chance that Bell signs with whatever team he is traded to. But I think it's much much much more likely that he tests the free agent market no matter what. Rasmus had an .860 OPS at 23. You don't trade the next three and a half years of a player with potential like that for 30 innings of a pitcher. And if you do, you deserve to be fired.
  14. I think Rasmus can be overrated at times, but he's a 24 year old CF who has already had a season of 20+ HR (.860 OPS and 4.3 WAR last year), has a pretty damn high ceiling, and is under team control for the next three years. And will likely be cheaper than a "fair market deal for a closer" that Bell would get beyond this year. And it would still be a trade for three months of Bell. They'd have every chance to sign him in the offseason and still have Rasmus. There is no way they deal Rasmus for Bell, and if they did Mozeliak should be fired immediately. And I don't even like Rasmus that much.
  15. They're not trading Rasmus in exchange for renting Heath Bell and a replacement OF they don't need. If Rasmus is going to be traded it's going to be for an impact player who can be controlled past this year. Probably a starter like Shields or Ubaldo.
  16. The Marlins are not going to trade Ramirez. And even if they did entertain offers, the Brewers couldn't even come close to putting together a package that could land him. Why would they be interested in someone like K-Rod?
  17. i don't really see how being able to trade Loe or Hawkins leads to Hanley Ramirez being in this conversation.
  18. He's had trouble with lefties this year, but for his career (and pretty much every season up until this year) he has been just fine against them.
  19. Because it likely eats up all the salary room the Brewers have to work with. And potentially any remaining minor league trading chips we have too. And the replacment of Yuni B is far and away more pressing than adding another BP arm. I doubt there are any very important prospects moving. At least none that will prevent the team from acquiring a SS. It may limit the budget for a guy like Furcal. We'll see.
  20. ah, so it's games "finished" not games appeared in. That works better than. Still a $3.5 million buyout next year. But still, much better than if he ended up with $17 million
  21. If KRod pitches in 55 games his option for next season becomes guaranteed at $17.5 million. Which means the Brewers are getting 20 appearances about him (plus hopefully some playoff performances), because he's already been in 34
  22. In a normal situation, true, but it worked because the outfield had to play way in, thus causing the LF's momentum to be going backwards when he made the catch. And I am fine with the choice of CC there instead of Gomez. CC has sick career numbers with the bases loaded, can take a walk, can make contact, and is a lefty. The righty matchup with Gomez would not have been good. Gomez' power advantage was really the only reason to have him bat. His speed wouldn't have really mattered, as the infield was playing in and would not have likely been able to turn a DP. Home to first, I guess, but I see that as unlikely enough that it's not a big deal. Heisey took a terrible route to the ball. Even playing up like that, he shouldn't have had so much of his momentum going backward....he started moving laterally first. Also, there's no excuse to not set your feet. I'll take it.
