  1. yes, but damon jones is an expiring contract. still a little underwhelming though.
  2. He's started 9 of the past 12 games...obviously thats not "every day", but the crew's starting shortstop has only played in 10 of those 12 games...thats pretty close to an every day player if you ask me. And he's 6 for 33 (with a whopping 1 run scored, and now 2 RBIs on that smash yesterday). I agree, its great that the brewers have been able to win games in spite of him, but theyve also had the luxury of playing offensively inept teams like washington (granted, the padres arent much better), and i fear the tight game where the opposition puts up some runs and i notice that craig counsell and his .167 average with RISP is 0 for 4 with 4 left on base. as far as the fear of counsell batting leadoff if he strings a few good games together, he does have an .884 OPS when batting #1. I seem to remember on a few occasions being upset he was batting there and he would come out with a good game and prove me wrong. unfortunately he hasnt done that in the 6 hole.
  3. anytime you're up against jake peavy, i think its a little hard to demand a sweep. even if we're throwing cc. a sweep would be fantastic, but im more than happy with 2/3.
  4. i agree that rivera should be getting more time (probably a start a week), but i wonder if it has something to do with the pitchers' comfort level with him. Has he caught sheets at all this season?
  5. @ Atlanta (3) 3-0 @ Cincinnati (3) 2-1 Washington (4) 3-1 @ San Diego (3) 1-2 @ Los Angeles (3) 1-2 Houston (3) 2-1 Pittsburgh (3) 2-1 @ St. Louis (2) 1-1 @ Pittsburgh (3) 2-1 17-10. two days ago i probably would have said 2-1 v. Atlanta, but i was a little late and ive got faith in sheets bouncing back against that braves lineup tomorrow. oh well. The sd/la trip will be huge, considering the rest of the schedule, if they can figure out a way to have success on a west coast trip it could be a really really good month. ill be in san diego for the thursday(half price tickets AND 2 for 1 hotdogs!) in that series and la for the sunday afternoon game...hopefully theyre more successful than my prediction (or at least win the games im at).
  6. no chance gagne sees the mound unless the brewers put up a few more runs...no one could be dumb enough to pull that one. Im guessing theyll let CC try and finish it and have torres ready to go.
  7. That's why this homestand would be worse. Its one thing to lay an egg when people dont care, its totally different to lay one in the biggest series of the season when just about the whole city is getting behind you.
  8. der. even though i dont like the look of the lineup (potentially losing a Braun AB), im glad ned is shaking it up. the offense cant get any worse, so why the hell not.
  9. i think suppan is a better option in the long run vs. mcclung. But hes been just awful lately, his ERA has gone up over a run in his 4 starts this month. I'd be fine with putting him in the pen and giving mcclung another chance to continue proving me (and many others) wrong by continuing with quality 5 or 6 inning starts.
  10. hey look, a pitching change. what a novel idea.
  11. suppan is clearly still irritated by his elbow. get him back on the DL so i dont have to watch crap like that again.
  12. wow. that was disgusting. well offense, i hope youve got some more heroics left in you. good start braun.
  13. fsn in madison is picking up the wmlw coverage thank god... not sure how you dont start jj hardy today, hes only 14 for his last 28. prove me wrong counsell.
  14. a few guys sitting in front of me booed scotty po when he came in. idiots. and if anyone saw a few cars on the side of the road in an accident just past moorland on 94, that was me! hooray for missing the first two and a half innings (and CC's first pitch/AB....the reason i drove in from madison to see the game. oh well, still a great atmosphere and a W)
  15. the ticket system kept becoming "unavailable" when i had seats held for me all last night and this morning as well....it was getting a little frustrating but i finally picked up 4 in section 204, row 8.
  16. You're right, baseball is a very unpredictable sport.....but its much easier to predict in the present than in the future. Which is why when you have a shot to make the playoffs AND add a cy young winner to the playoff rotation you do it. You're right, the brewers could have made the playoffs without CC. But this trade wasnt made just to increase the odds of making the playoffs, it was made to dramatically increase the odds of WINNING in the playoffs. Besides, with baseball being so unpredictable, you seem far too sure that the brewers' prospects are all going to be great in the future and the team can contend easily for the next 5 years.
  17. The brewers lost 5 games on a 10 game road trip. very solid. The cubs, 7 games into a 10 game trip of their own, have already lost 5 games as well. The crew picked up 2 games during a tough road trip. Even if the cubs match the brewers 5-5 trip, it will come at the expense of the wildcard leading Cardinals.
  18. i was going to buy some tickets for this game tonight, but i suppose i can wait a day and throw my hat into the ring for this one. nothing like a series against the pirates while the two teams ahead of you play each other, you almost HAVE to pick up ground on someone.
  19. Yea, the brewers could be a .5 game out if they had just managed to pull off that very common 9-1 road trip. what a bunch of bums. The game today was horrible, and legitimately could be one we all look back on in september....but as long as the giants bullpen didnt get any crazy ideas from watching Mota and Co. today, and they hold on against the cubs, milwaukee will have picked up 2 games during a 10 game road trip. Not great and it could have been better, but ill take it.
  20. it wasn't. the only potential argument is that he used mota, who is a bum.
  21. anyone notice that the preview for the postgame show said "Parra Gets Win #9"? Good lord, that was brutal.
  22. But Gagne putting runners on the corners with no outs in that game is his fault. I understand that he battled out of it with a K and what should have been a DP, and i commend him for that. But he's still putting way too many baserunners on, and when you do that you're leaving the door open for bad things to happen (especially with the crew's defense). I find it hard to believe that people continue to make excuses for him. He was probably getting squeezed a little on sunday, but the fact remains he just hasn't pitched that well this year, he's put way too many people on base. I'm not saying that will continue (I actually think he's a good pitcher and can be a solid closer for the team), but he's just been bad so far.
