  1. Why can't our pitchers get out of innings? We can't seem to get that third out. Again, I am going to say that you can see a real difference between the way our hitters approach at bats and the way these American League teams approach at bats. They never concede a pitch. We seem to go entire times through the order without our hitters really focusing. I fear where we are going to be in the standings on July 25th. I just don't know if anyone in the division is good enough to run away from us.
  2. Did Gardenhire fall asleep last inning? I can't believe he didn't take Capps out of the game before Kottaras.
  3. I didn't get to see the game tonight but that shouldn't affect my normal lack of intelligence in my analysis. I agree with an earlier poster who said that Greinke may be tipping his pitches. I also think that we try and trick too many hitters with our pitch selection. I pitch calling seems to get a little too random when the guys with the bigger repertoires (Gallardo and Greinke) are on the mound. I don't think we get intimidated by anyone but I do think we panic when we fall behind against a good pitcher or team. When teams rally against us walks are always part of the equation. When we fall behind we swing at everything. Another thought is that coach Roenicke doesn't understand the difference between aggressive baserunning and stupid baserunning. I think he wants to win by doing the things that other teams won't do. He wants to be a genius but in the end he will be considered an idiot. If we don't make the playoffs he will receive more hate than any manager since Rene Lachemann. It will get ugly. As far as Casey goes, I question his conditioning. I don't think he is fat or weak, but he seems very inflexible. He needs to get himself on a stretching regimen. I don't think that I have ever seen a player off balance as in the field as much as Casey.
  4. I would have liked to have seen Counsell in this line-up. I guess that we are saving him for September. I like the Ned 2.0 description of Roenicke. I find them to be eerily similar. Strange game time decisions, strange personal decisions, and a lack of self-assessment seem to be the hallmarks of both regimes.
  5. I know that Sergio Mitre is no world beater but I thought he performed better than a lot of people who were used more than him. I would have used him over Green, Dillard, Difelice, and Kintzler. All of those guys got more opportunities than Mitre when they were with the team. I think Mitre has more value than Ron thought. I like Braddock back in the bullpen. I like having Gamel on the big league roster. I just wonder if it is wise to go with one less pitcher going into NY.
  6. I guess that I would prefer a Gamel call-up. Green has only been in Nashville a month. I think that Gamel could fill Kotsay's role (I don't know what benefit we get from having Kotsay on the roster) with the ability to also play some third. But I think if Gamel or Green get called up we would have to get rid of a position player. I don't think that we are going to go below 12 pitchers. I would like to see Saito and Braddock brought back with Dillard going back to AAA. Since you pretty much have to have a left-hander (you really need more than one) against the Yankees, we are just going to bring up Saito. I am not confused in this posting, we just don't really like to be logical. EDIT- Green has played 67 games in AAA and 3 in AA. I don't know how I got things mixed up.
  7. The Brewers have been terrible in day games for a long, long time. I have often wondered if our guys stay out too late on the night before day games. I think that i posted the same comment in 2007, when I believe we had a stretch where we lost 12 out of 13 Sunday afternoon games. As for Kotsay, I think Roenicke is rather familiar with Kotsay from when Kotsay was with the A's and for some reason he thinks this is still the 2004 Kotsay. I don't think that there is much that Kotsay can do that Mat Gamel can't. Plus, I think Gamel would be able to hit with runners in scoring position. I think we also need to take all sidearmers away from RR, similarly to the way you take dangerous toys away from a little kid. Personally, I liked Dillard better before we made him a sidearmer. We need to find a shortstop, a LOOGY, and maybe another set-up guy who can throw strikes as soon as he enters a game. I don't know if we have the talent or the financial resources to make these deals.
  8. Is it me, or do we seem to have more problems with the sun than other teams? This series was frustrating but there are lessons to be learned. Hopefully our hitters will decide to work the count the way the Red Sox do. The Red Sox don't make a lot of mistakes.
  9. On this road trip our hitters have fallen into their old trap of not scoring after falling behind early. We had 4 runs after 3 and couldn't get on bace again until the 8th. We should have learned from watching what other teams do to us that rallies usually start with a single and a walk or two. We keep trying to hit 5 run home runs without anyone on base. We have to think our way through the game a lot better than we have been. Pitchingwise, uggh... I think Mike McClendon is good enough to pitch in our bullpen. Axford is all we have and I expect him to another rough patch or two before this season is over.
  10. This series was eerily similar to that 09 series in Wrigley (July 2-5). Lets hope we rebound this time. I think we have a lot better team than we had then. Maybe most disappointing about this whole thing is that we are back to asking why can't we win on the road?
  11. We blast RR quite a bit. In my opinion it is deserved. But this game is on the players. Those guys haven't executed. We seem a little panicky too me. We don't seem to have the patience to make the right play.
  12. It seems that if we want to win that Narveson will have to go 8 innings tonight, and probably have to drive in some runs as well.
  13. It seems that we have turned almost certain victory into defeat much more often than we have turned almost certain defeat into victory. Playoff teams usually have that reversed. I like how hard the Brewers play but Roenicke needs to turn the game over to someone else. He is terrible, bordering on incompetent. Sometimes I think he is just flipping a coin. And where are the coaches? Are they on board with the lunacy? Maybe we should ask for all of their heads on a platter.
  14. We scored 0 runs last night. People make it sound like Nieves and Betancourt alternated at bats. We have struggled this entire season with right handed pitchers with good sliders. As for Nieves, he may be the worst hitter in baseball but he is probably our best defensive catcher. He is the best at calling a game and blocking pitches. He is far better than Rivera or Kottaras defensively. In the old days, before the era of the expanded pitching staff, Nieves would have been the perfect 3rd catcher. With him on the team you probably do need another catcher. If it were up to me I would have Rivera as the back-up but I can live with Nieves. As for the rest of last night's line-up and RR's strategy, don't get me started. In my opinion if you start Nieves you need to play your best offensive players at the rest of the positions. That would mean Morgan and Counsell. I also don't agree with a 3-1 squeeze with the pitcher batting and the top of the order on deck. Sacrifice bunting and squeeze bunting are completely different. Most pitchers don't succeed on their first bunt attempt of an at bat. But let's relax. Everybody loses once in while. Dempster has always had our number. The season goes on and we are OK.
  15. RRR seems to make a lot of decisions without considering their negative implications. I have to give him a lot of credit for the effort and enthusiasm I see coming from this team but he is a strategical neophyte.
  16. Its nice to see the Crew come through in a big series. We are playing with a lot of confidence right now.
  17. You know that this will be one of those games where LaRussa tries to get under our skin early. I wouldn't be surprised if Prince gets hit his first time up and when we retaliate by hitting Pujols, Tony will want Jb Van Hollen brought in to prosecute the entire Brewer organization. I am sure that after the game it will then be brought up how the classy Cardinals are getting picked on.
  18. I know that I am stating the obvious when I say that we seem to be having problems getting to the 9th. I haven't decided yet who the answer is.
  19. I hope that the Cardinals aren't baseball's version of the 2010 Chicago Bears. It seems that teams find a way to lose to the Cardinals. I like our roster better than the Cardinals.
  20. I am pleased that my earlier prediction about Loe was wrong. But I too am looking for to Saito's return.
  21. We can't keep giving away these games. I lost confidence in Loe as the 8th inning guy a couple of weeks ago but this is a shared loss. That wasn't the NL all-star pitching staff that shut us down. Just when my natural pessimism starts to fade into optimism.........
  22. When we got Tractor I thought we had the final piece of the puzzle. I found out that 4-men have to play above the rim. It is always shocking when something like this occurs.
