  1. She is from Oshkosh. I went to school there. She has probably already avoided in the past.
  2. When we acquired K-Rod I had hoped that K-Rod would get an occasional save. IMO We should be using Saito more as a set-up guy so that K-Rod and Ax aren't always pitching on the same days. This would allow Ax to get a bit more rest. If we are fortunate enough to have our lead hold up and we clinch a bit early, that could provide some rest for Ax.
  3. I wonder if Carpenter isn't hurting. I know that he didn't look very good on Saturday and that LaRussa made a mound visit instead of the Lilliquist. This could be a crazy series. I hope that our bats come alive. I know that the odds are in our favor but I also know that we have a tougher schedule over the next couple of weeks than what we have had. If we lose a couple of games in a row I could see us tightening up. It would happen to most teams. I won't relax until after I see a division title celebration. We have made the play-offs 3 times. In 81 clinched on the next to last day, in 82 we clinched on the last day, and in 2008 we clinched on the last day of the season. In 82 and 08 we had a small cushion and played poorly in September. I am therefore conditioned to believe that it will happen again.
  4. Here is my daily crazy statement for August 25, 2011. I could see the Marlins becoming a player for Fielder. They are opening a new stadium and need to make a splash. For years they have said that they needed a new stadium in order to be competitive. They need to put their money where their mouth is. Prince lives in Fla. and his kids will be playing little league soon and wouldn't be able to spend their summers with Dad like they used too. Can Gaby Sanchez play OF?
  5. These games have to happen sometimes. Let's hope that we flush out all of the bad plays tonight and tomorrow we will be back to playing red hot baseball.
  6. We don't have to use the 25 man roster that we have on August 31st. Players who are on the DL at that time can be placed on the play-off roster. If someone goes on the DL after August 31st (I know that is rare) I believe that you can use anyone that was on your 40 man roster on August 31st to replace them. I think that is how K-Rod pitched in the 2002 play-offs. I think Dillard is the first pitcher sent down, not De la Cruz. I think that the only reason that Dillard is still on the roster is that Roenicke forgot that he is still on the team.
  7. I think a lot of people saw this coming with Lopez. His lack of effort was there in 2009 as well but his .320 batting average kind of covered it up. I noticed that Lopez didn't get many chances after that game where he failed to run out 3 ground balls. I give Roenicke credit for that. As far as the roster goes. I don't think that Gomez will be back before September 1st. That gives us the roster flexibilty to reduce our staff to 12 pitchers for the playoffs (should we be fortunate enough to make it). We should keep 12 through August and more than 12 in September.
  8. I agree with mm5. No pitcher will say that he should come out of the game. The manager needs to know what he is going to do as soon as he leaves the dugout.
  9. I clearly remember that game in Chicago on June 29th, 2007 as well. One thing I think I remember about that game is that no Cubs pitcher ever batted. They just pinch hit and double switched, and if I remember correctly their pinch hitters got a number of hits and figured in their rallies. That allusion to that against Texas was a good one too. I remember that Coco had been lights out since we had acquired him the previous season. Texas knew him and didn't chase the slider, I knew were in trouble after that. The blueprint had been delivered to our rivals. It is great to build this small cushion now. We are going to have at least one frustrating losing streak before the season is over. That is the way baseball is. What I like right now is that our lead is big enough that if the Cardinals swept the last two series against us they would still have to outperform us in the rest of the games in order for them to overtake us.
  10. I like seeing Hairston at second. Felipe may already be wearing out his welcome.
  11. I have decided to hop on the "call up Green" bandwagon. We just need another lefty bat on our team. Counsell and Lopez just appear to be overmatched at the plate. McGehee is hitting better over the last month but that is not that hard to do. His average dropped back below .240 again this last week. His defense hasn't been real strong either. Yet, I am not advocating the all-out benching of McGehee. Just a soft platoon. Give McGehee a day off against pitchers with a big difference between righty and lefty splits. When we start a left-handed hitter at 3rd base we take a middle of the order power threat (even though the power hasn't presented itself as much this year) and replace him with a bottom of the order, punch-and-judy hitter.
  12. I can't believe how we pulled this one out today! On the negative side of things our hitting is starting to tail off again. I think we need a better lefty complement to Casey, and I think we have somebody (or somebodies) who fit that description.
  13. Braun's swing is really long right now. I hope it doesn't have anything to do with all that back flexing (can't think of a better description) that he was doing on Sunday.
  14. I was thinking of the same thing a couple of days ago and almost started this very thread! I am torn on this as well. I guess we can hold the fort for now, but in September I want Yo and Greinke getting as many starts as possible.
  15. This was a trap series, just ask the Reds. I am very pleased with the results. We have been taking care of business against the lesser teams. That is a great sign. There are still a lot of games left. We need to keep playing well. That being said we will have bumps in the road. No need to jump off of a cliff when that happens. Obviously I like where we are at a lot more than where the Cardinals are at.
  16. We have been taking care of business. That is good to see.
  17. I read this after going through the IGT of the St. Louis Dispatch. After reading what those Cardinal fans were saying I wasn't sure if this was authentic or not. Their arrogance is shocking.
  18. I thought the Brewers brought a mental toughness to this series that they don't always exhibit. Lots of quality at bats. La Russa should have lots of good excuses about this one.
  19. I am 43 years old and I seem to be more stressed out by this pennant race than anything else in my life. I hate the Cardinals. The 1982 world series was won by the healthier team, not the better team ( and in game 2, that pitch was a strike). I would rather contract the Ebola virus than root for the Cardinals. Go Crew!
  20. It is not as bad as it used to be, but the Brewers will have wear the black hats as long as Bud Selig is commisioner. We are closely associated with the commisioner and the commisioner of any sport is a polarizing figure.
  21. Lucroy has really struggled lately defensively. He is starting to look like a third baseman. We have all below average defenders on the infield, except for maybe Weeks. 3 runs should have been 0. I am venting here, but the last 6 weeks have looked a lot like 2007 when it unraveled after that loss to the Cubs. Going into this series we have won 3 of our last 10 series.
  22. We are currently doing a lot of things wrong, that is for sure. The season is not over but I have to agree with those who say that this team won't get very far as currently constituted. A statistic that is bothering me is that we have gone 2-6 in our last 8 series. I posted this yesterday, and I will repeat today, it just seems that we don't fight over every out the way the top teams do. We don't seem to analyze our bullpen match-ups very well. We make undisciplined plays in the field. Our hitters will go multiple innings without a real strategy at the plate. Don't forget we didn't score after the 4th today. We seem to have a hard stopping things from going the wrong way. In many of our wins we let nice become close this year. I don't know if I want to blame that on RR. We have been playing this way for years. I think we need a true LOOGY, I like Braddock but he isn't a LOOGY, he is a true set-up man. A shortstop would be nice (remember when we thought we were SS rich?) but it is unlikely we will find one. I wonder if we have the financial flexibility and the talent pool necessary to put the pieces together for those last couple of players. That west coast road trip in July scares me, I hope that we aren't debating whether or not to trade Prince at that time.
