  1. And hadn't the Yankees completely owned Rodgers before this game? I know A-Rod was batting like a ridiculous .500 vs Rodgers. Yeah - he had a 9.00 ERA in his last 11 starts against them, and pretty much every hitter had torched him. That's what was so remarkable to me about the performance - this is a pitcher that typically the Yankees would demolish (soft-tosser, nibbler, poor fastball, etc.), and he just shut them down. I normally don't get all sentimental and stuff, but that was a vintage playoff thing - the intensity he had was unreal.
  2. Yeah, I said the same thing to people who I was watching the game with. It was like "what the hell is he talking about?" They could probably shown archival footage from the '84 series with Tigers fans standing in anticipation of a Milt Wilcox or Dan Petry K, or something.
  3. "Most fans across the country are probably just wondering who this guy is!" That's the most sickening thing announcers do in baseball. They think they know more than fans do about the game, when actually it is the announcers that know nothing. Like I said earlier in the thread - Granderson is basically a poor man's Grady Sizemore. He's going to be a star.
  4. Possibly one of the greatest pitching performances I have ever seen. Rogers was positively dominant tonight. Wow.
  5. Yeah, how dare they celebrate. http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20061006/capt.5afba5b45ac6422294fb19ef951a5022.twins_athletics_baseball_cabm101.jpg This begs the question: does Ron Gardenhire's crap not work in the postseason? http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/sp/getty/c3/full.getty-72077170jj022_alds_minnesot_7_59_02_pm.jpg
  6. MARCO . . . SCUTARO!!!
  7. I just would like to thank Ron Gardenhire for bunting in the second inning of an AL playoff game, on the road, with no score, nobody out, and a runner on second with a hitter who hit 31 home runs this season. I would also like to thank Eric Chavez for hitting a home run as I typed this.
  8. They have no patience and no appreciation for talent. Exactly. I just can't believe how awful he is treated by them. Sickening. He's not a jerk, he rarely misses a game, and he is one of the greatest players ever. It's just too bad that the union wouldn't let him take less money and get traded to the Red Sox, because he probably would have been appreciated there.
  9. If you can't beat Jeff Weaver, you might as well just forfeit.
  10. At least you have the Tigers broadcast. XM is running the Yankee broadcasters and boy are they irritating. THEEEEEE Yankees annoy me! You know they broadcast the home, road, and ESPN broadcast, right? The ESPN was on 189. EDIT: In the first round, it seems to be home and ESPN. However, the LCS and WS have home, road, and ESPN announcers. www.xmradio.com/schedule/...hedule.jsp
  11. 1. Pujols 2. Morneau 3. Delgado 4. Garciaparra 5. Swisher 6. Sheffield (not sure of his health, 100% and he's 3 or 4) 7. Gonzalez 8. Casey
  12. Probably Posada, but not really for the past postseason success, just because he's awesome. Mauer would be second (though first, obviously, if this extended past just this playoffs), Pudge third, and Kendall fourth.
  13. Yeah, that's a pretty good movie. Since I brought up some music docs earlier, I'll add "Festival Express" to the list of awesome ones. I couldn't believe I'd never heard of it before about a month ago when I came across it on TMC. I picked up the DVD right after seeing it. It has the Dead, The Band, Janis Joplin, The Flying Burrito Brothers (sans Parsons, unfortunately) and others. Great music movie, especially if you're into those bands.
  14. I wouldn't say "as much", but I am a huge fan. I catch most of the games during the season on either TV or XM. I follow them quite closely. They are my AL team, but pretty much my only AL team. Still, I don't have 6000+ posts on any A's message boards. If the Brewers played the A's, I'd pull for the Brewers without thinking about it. I probably wouldn't curse that opponent with as much vitriol as I do, say the Cubs, though.
  15. Is Heart of Gold just really a concert movie? I was going to buy it, since I'm a pretty big Neil fan, but if it's really mostly concert stuff, I can go without (especially since it's $35 at my local Barnes & Noble). Besides, I just picked up a slew of Dylan DVD's that I've been working my way through. I had seen most of "No Direction Home" on PBS, and I bought it since it was on sale. Obviously, considering Dylan was cooperative, it's fanboy-ish. It's also really cool. I also got "Don't Look Back", which is awesome. Then I got "'1975 -1981 Rolling Thunder and the Gospel Years", which is also alright (it's not authorized by Bobby D.) and is four hours long. That one's probably only watchable if you're a fanatic, though.
  16. Brett....do you think this is the year the A's finally break through and win a playoff series? Man, do I hope so. But, I'm not going to get overly confident. Today, I was only able to listen to the game at work, and I got home and ran in from my car with two outs in the 9th and Bartlett up. He promptly hits a single. Then Castillo walks. Then I started getting the nervous shakes a little - it was "here we go again, where's Byrnes when you need him?" But, when Punto swung through that belt-high fastball, I knew Street would get him out.
  17. I think it's safe to assume that Torii Hunter was making a diving attempt at lots and lots of dollar signs he saw floating in mid-air. What a horrible play. Yet so beautiful. Go A's.
  18. Jim Leyland, who most consider "old-school", has a prototypical leadoff hitter who led the league in K's and stole 8 bases. He also hit 19 bombs. Granderson is a poor-man's Sizemore, with better defense.
  19. Why must you hate? It was awesome watching him help that team to the playoffs. A few clutch hits and HR's, it was great.
  20. I know that Russell Branyan will never start for a good team, or especially in the playoffs.
  21. To be honest, a decrease in wins of only 6 is almost miraculous.
  22. I still get a kick out of seeing Aaron Miles attempting to impersonate a SS. It's even better than Eckstein trying to play the position.
  23. The Cardinals could be playing the first of four possible last games of the season (today, tomorrow, Tuesday, elimination game of a playoff series). Let's hope Villy can make them sweat it out, and cement his rotation spot for next year.
  24. There you go, pogo. I still say, though, get this bad boy: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000002G7G.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg The best VU, hands down. I've never understood the love affair the critics and some fans have had with the Nico album. I think the Warhol association, the cover, etc. makes people think that album is better, or even more significant than it actually is. Not that it's bad, it's just not as good as the third or White Light. I put it on par with "Loaded", which I enjoy. You're going chronologically, though, and that's cool.
  25. Right now I'm listening to an advance of the new Beck album (I think it's out Tuesday), "The Information". If you dig Beck, you'll like the album. Very good. I tend to be a Beck apologist, to a degree, but I'm loving it. There's bits and pieces of all Beck's phases on it, trippier stuff, slower stuff, everything you could want. M. Ward's "Post-War" is pretty good, too.
