  1. I'd do that in a second. He's a CF, which Crawford is not (though I like Crawford more as a player, Baldelli probably fits better).
  2. In order for Manny to come to Milwaukee, he'd have to waive his 10/5 rights. In order to do that, Manny would demand that the Brewers pick up his option in 2009 and 2010. Which means that that would never happen. My guess is that it's someone much less exciting, like David Murphy or something. God knows the Brewers need more OF's.
  3. Cheap relative to it being the best hitter of the modern era, probably. I think he'll get less than $10 million.
  4. Has anyone picked up that Beatles "Love" album? Just curious to hear some thoughts on it, since I haven't gotten it yet.
  5. If Kenny Lofton gets $7 million a year from the Brewers, you can cancel my subscription to the resurrection, because it ain't happening.
  6. The Red Sox are going to sign Lugo, so that's going to take care of the SS problem.
  7. Which they would quickly lose. It takes two to tango, and Zito and Schmidt wouldn't have any interest in coming to Milwaukee, and I don't think the Brewers would have any interest in Mulder. He wouldn't be a wise investment for them.
  8. I love Tim Hudson, but at this point it is more as a human being, rather than as a baseball player. I think he's getting pretty near to the end, all that stress on his body has caught up to him. It's a pretty great achievement for a little guy like him to last as long as he has, but right now he's likely to be about a 4.50 ERA guy - which wouldn't be worth his salary. The most scary thing is that his HR rate is jumping, and it would jump even more at Miller Park, and his GB% is dropping. I don't think he even throws his split anymore, either. And there's no way I'd trade the Brewers best player for a number three caliber pitcher.
  9. 1. Braun 2. Gallardo 3. Inman 4. Salome 5. Gillespie 6. Rogers 7. Fermaint 8. Cain 9. Hammond 10t. Gamel 10t. Dillard
  10. Jackson, I'd agree with, but I wouldn't trade Braun for Blanton. Probably not Rogers, either, and I'm not even that sold on him.
  11. I thought he didn't want to be a starter.
  12. I'd rather just play Gross in CF than have either Lofton or Finley.
  13. Hall's hole is gone when they bring in Counsell! He is not an OF anyways. Yeah, that sounds like an adequate replacement.
  14. But yeah, all logic says that Rivera would have more value. I think that the Brewers wouldn't trade Miller, since he's a hometown guy and stuff, and I think other teams around the league don't think Rivera is now a good hitter because he had a .783 OPS for 142 AB's.
  15. Jenkins, Hardy and Miller packaged up for Carl Crawford The Rays would be picking up over $6 million and trading one of the best young players in the league for spare parts. The star player that makes sense for them picking up is Crawford, since he doesn't have a $20 million salary and he's not 30. Ramirez is a such an absolute no chance deal - he's got to waive a no-trade, and to do that he'd want the Brewers to pick up his option through 2010. Riiiiiight.
  16. It's a waste of a year of service time to have a guy like Jackson be the long reliever. Just throw a Gonzalez or Helling type guy in that spot, a guy who it won't hurt if he only pitches twice a month.
  17. Boras was floating around $100 million to start talking with Z in September. I thought he was crazy, but like always he's going to get it done for his client.
  18. According to stats and scouts (and even his manager) he's a disaster in LF. He was also a terrible CF'er. And he's a terrible hitter. He's essentially a guy who runs fast and wears high socks and now a ring.
  19. I like Michaels a lot, but he's like a 4th OF guy, or a platoon partner, basically. Guthrie was a touted guy at Stanford, but that was ages ago. He'll be 28 a little after opening day. Westbrook is just kind of an average pitcher. That trade is a total joke.
  20. Actually, I think he could play in the NL. Looking at things like Win Shares (admittedly not a great stat for defense) he's about the same as a Carlos Lee, better than Manny, a little worse than Dunn (better according to BP). Better than replacement level, below average. Probabilistic model of range has him as better than guys like Crawford, Payton, Swisher, Podsednik, Burrell, etc. He's not that terrible.
  21. He's a good pitcher, and he doesn't get along with the braintrust in LA, which is probably why they would sign someone like Randy Wolf to replace him. I'd love to see the Brewers try and get him.
  22. Ray Durham is available in a trade, and is really good, aside from his defense. He also has a, like, $11 million dollar salary this season, or something, after he picked up his option.
  23. Or they could always trade Estrada.
  24. Really, the only one that needs to move is Mench, and he could just simply get non-tendered. Nix and Gwynn can go to AAA, or better yet get dealt. Wilson would be a perfect platoon partner for Jenkins, Gross with Clark (who could also posibly be traded), and Hart is left alone. Hall should stay in the IF, as far as I'm concerned (and I think he will). It would be sweet to actually have five OF's.
