  1. Explain why please. I'm not seeing how a platoon that grades out as one of the best 3B in the league is a bad thing. Branyan is so undervalued, it's a shame - even among his own team's fans. He has a .920 OPS and is an above-average fielder. What more do you need? Third base has been the best offensive position on the team this year, why does it need a drastic upgrade? That is the way it is, and there's no real evidence to say that it's a problem position. EDIT: In VORPr, Branyan is 3rd in the NL behind only Ensberg and Ramirez at .401. He's 8th in VORP at 17.7, despite having only 188 PA.
  2. This is definitely a big series, but they all are - especially when the circumstances are what they are with the 12 losing seasons and such. I may be being too much of a "realist", but I'd be happy with one out of three against the Cards and three out of four from the Reds.
  3. The fact that he's not walking is the most discouraging thing for me. I'll give him a little more time before I dub him a hacker, though. I think his patience will come.
  4. Looks like Branyan dominates that category as well. Just can't keep the man down. He's almost a joke to these people, yet when healthy he has been one of the best 3B'men in the league this season.
  5. But we all know a strikeout isn't a true outcome because one can reach base via the strikeout. A walk and a homerun are the only true outcomes. Actually, THT did a thing on 2TO and said that it was the K and the HR only and that walks were a sign of weakness. Tongue is planted fimly in cheek, but it's a pretty funny read. LINK
  6. Could Inman have finished the no-no he was working on? I'm gald we didn't find out. What's the point. He pitched great, and limiting his pitches increases the chance he will do so again. And didn't he already have surgery, before?
  7. david bell is to phillies fans as ___________ is to brewers fans. Helms, last year?
  8. I am also listining on xm and the phillies radio guys sound pretty good. Yeah, Harry Kalas is a HOF'er for a reason, I guess.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  9. My preference is any lineup that includes Branyan. But, since he played last night, we will certainly be treated to the hacktastic ways of Bill Hall.
  10. Got a feeling there's going to be some runs on the board today. Usually this feeling means a low scoring game.
  11. I'd sure like to see Warren Morris get a chance with the Crew, soon. At least he's semi-capable with the bat, unlike Durro, and has some pop.
  12. Burnie it does look like there is no TV today unless you have the major league baseball extra innings package. Maybe this needs to be taken outside of the game thread into it's own topic, but what happened to the idea of a Brewers network that Mark A was talking about starting? It'd really be nice to see 150+ games televised per season.
  13. Just to update this. I am still having the problem. It only comes up when I write a lot and have multiple paragraphs. I usually have to start cutting and pasting, and editing about three times to get all, or at least most, of my comments in the post. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
  14. Ohka seems to pitch well in the more spacious parks, like he did in Florida and with the Nats. Obviously he's a HR pitcher, and having him pitching at Shea is a lot better than at Miller Park. I think if the Brewers bring the discipline and patience they had against the Giants they can run Zambrano by the 5th, which would set the rest of the series up pretty decently since Pedro doesn't go extremely deep into games. By the time 11:10 rolls around on Thursday they could have the Mets pen pretty tired. Best case scenario, obviously.
  15. Brian, I have had some problems trying to post in different threads lately. Just a few minutes ago I tried posting in the Melvin topic on the ML forum and it didn't work. It just sits there when I try to reply, after I hit "Add Post", until it finally times out. I've tried it in both Firefox and IE, and they both end up coming up as "Page Not Found". Any clue what the problem might be? Thanks.
  16. I swear, if they trade him I will NOT be a happy camper. Me, too. I normally try hard not to get too emotionally attached to a player, but I couldn't do it with Branyan. I'm pretty sure he's only sitting because of the LHP, though. I couldn't fathom why they would trade him.
  17. The fact that there's a 87% chance that the Brewers do no worse than split should eliminate the bad vibes theory.
  18. Have you gotten any dandies lately, Brian?
  19. Just when you thought the trainwreck was over, it started up again.
  20. You've got to love running the team out of an inning, then pitching them out of the game in a span of 10 minutes! Fantastic.
  21. Oh yeah, Ortiz is flat-out terrible, but Branyan gives the team a better chance to win than Hall does.
  22. Why isn't Branyan playing?
  23. I think the inner-team strife has taken just as much a toll on the Reds this year.... I think it's just the awful pitching. That Milton investment looks pretty brilliant, as does the Ortiz one.
  24. I don't think DLR is capable of doing this. He needs to be saved for extras.
