  1. I have a picture with Ray King from when I was young, I think. I'll have to try and dig that up.
  2. After you watch "City of God" and love it, watch "City of Men", too.
  3. RyDogg, if you like music documentaries, here's a couple that came out in the past couple of years to check out: The Devil and Daniel Johnston Townes Van Zandt: Be Here to Love Me We Jam Econo: The Story of the Minutemen They are all awesome.
  4. BTW, did Ned Lost tell anyone why he sat Hall who was a career .361 hitter against Oswalt? To be fair, Hall has sucked for the most part this season and Gross is hot. That was the right call.
  5. I like all of those films except Big Fish, Chicago, and Chocolat.
  6. Old ladies love Ben Sheets... can you blame them?
  7. I'm going to predict an offensive explosion for each team today, with the Brewers winning 11-8. Stuff like that seems to happen when two aces face off.
  8. Huntsville's not an easy place to hit, though. And that was his first full season of pro ball and he was in AA, for him to hit even as well as he did was an accomplishment. The leap from college to AA is enormous.
  9. Not to mention the amazing wealth of tools he has. He can run, he has power, he has amazing bat speed, and he has a good eye at the plate. This stuff had every scouting director in baseball drooling over him, and for good reason. The hype that surrounded him was justified, in my opinion. Any team that had the second pick in the draft that year would have taken Weeks, and some might have taken him first (Delmon Young has been a pretty big disappointment himself, and he's healthy).
  10. Enough about the CF switch. CF are not usually power guys and in fact 2nd basemen and SS have more power these days so actually he is in a position that hits weaker than he was in before. 2007 Average NL CF: .272/.335/.427 2007 Average NL SS: .278/.337/.416 It's only a slight difference, but the average CF has a higher OPS this season, oddly enough due solely to power. Though in previous years the difference was wider, and I think it's correct to assume that a CF should be a better hitter than a SS.
  11. Buchholz is awesome. That is really a $100 million player development machine.
  12. He could have definitely helped the Brewers, if Melvin was seriously looking to make a claim for him.
  13. Johnny Estrada has a .298 OBP right now, and yes Melvin should have seen that coming. He has had one season with an above average OBP, not to mention he was a 30 year old catcher when he was acquired. That's not to say Miller is a better alternative, though, because he isn't really.
  14. If the Cubs go on to lose to the Astros today, and we can pick up a win over the Pirates, that's back to a game & a half. Why are so many people counting this past series as the official end of the regular season? This is getting ridiculous. Exactly. Although the Cubs games did carry some added weight, it's not the end of the world that they're down 2.5 games, there's plenty of time left to make up that small of a margin. If the Cubs get swept this weekend and the Brewers sweep the Pirates, they're suddenly in first again. Now, that's an unlikely thing to happen, but it's not unimaginable for the Brewers to go 5-2 over their next 7 games and the Cubs go 2-5.
  15. I think Fukodome will be pretty much a carbon copy of Hideki Matsui, but like Patrick said, with a great arm. I've somewhat followed Japanese baseball for the past few years (like when Matsuzaka was first being tossed around as coming over to the U.S.) and he's definitely among the cream of the crop as far as position players over there go.
  16. I think Steve Stone is correct quite often. This is not one of those times. Talent is such a vague word, though. As far as "proven" talent goes, though, they have the Brewers licked - guys like Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, and Floyd have all been good or better for a long time. I'm not a big believer in experience winning baseball games, though, and if you want to just look at raw talent, I would say the Brewers have more.
  17. Amazing how Sheets coming back can elevate spirits so much, for everyone involved with the Brewers in any capacity - fan, broadcaster, player, whomever. Whether or not feeling better results in better performance remains to be seen, but I know I jumped right out of bed at 4:30 this morning with pep in my step after watching Sheets come back.
  18. I think McClung can basically be Turnbow, but with better ability to throw consecutive days, as well as multiple innings in a single game - which are things Turnbow seems to struggle with. With that being said, the chances of this happening this season, especially with Maddux only having about a month to work with him, are pretty slim. He has decent stuff, but like others have said, his performance record is pretty bad. I'm not going to proclaim him savior of the bullpen after getting one out in two games in a row. I think in the future he can be a very good reliever for this team, though, but as of now I don't trust him anwhere near as much as I do Wise. I think the entire Wise situation has been blown way out of proportion, and that him throwing that three inning save had more to do with his struggles than the HBP. That remains to me the biggest puzzler of the season as far as managerial moves go. If you're looking for a guy who could "save" the pen, that's one there, and he has a record of past success.
  19. thought that picture looked too current to be d boon...what with him being all corpse-y and whatnot This is Mike Watt, present day: http://www.beastiemania.com/whois/watt_mike/watt_mike.jpg
  20. D. Boon, bro.
  21. Like someone pointed out, why in the world would San Diego part with him in the middle of a playoff race? Thank you. This was pointed out in the actual thread for the trade by several people. Of course, this led to those of use who hated the trade being told that we care too much about minor league baseball. Seriously, read that thread in retrospect. It's pretty hillarious - especially when it is proclaimed that the Brewers now have the BEST bullpen in baseball. Even if Inman doesn't pan out, the Padres win this deal because they didn't have Scott Linebrink pitching high-leverage innings for them down the stretch. (edit: linked "actual thread for the trade" --1992)
  22. Whatever they do, I just hope it doesn't involve throwing boatloads of money at relief pitchers. That is all I ask.
