  1. Gonzalez is really solid at short...even if he's Yuni at the plate I will love the guy if he keeps that D up.
  2. A little surprised they are going with Estrada with Marcum going tomorrow. I guess the pen is well rested so no biggie.
  3. 57 mph curve...awesome, but gotta be a strike to win the pool.
  4. Just awesome. Let's win it for the Zebra!!! Thebruce's Dad too. I hope it turns out well. Adding this to the list of reasons I love Italy!
  5. If Ishikawa is this year's Kotsay...what is the over/under on Ishikawa starts in CF?
  6. The internet would replace it if or when they ever stop their stupid blackout rules. I would seriously drop my cable if I could legally get live games in market any other way. With all the TV deals going at big prices and some teams even having their own piece of a cable network, preserving the multi-channel eco-system may be in their near term financial best interests. The stick of going exclusive or over the top can drive prices higher, but will likely carry some digital rights and restrictions along with them over time.
  7. I know not everyone here likes football or the Packers, but Rodgers is a national celeb. It's very cool to get him in a Brewers uni and do the spot. Plus, it's funny. I love it that all these Wisconsin sports guys back each other up. The Gamel/Aoki one is solid too.
  8. In terms of MSA's...Cincy is #27, Milwaukee is #39. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_of_United_States_Metropolitan_Statistical_Areas
  9. The vibe in the clubhouse was certainly a plus and a positive that RR brought after Macha. Tough to quantify, but it seemed to help. I wouldn't dismiss this as a big plus for the team. Melvin gradually Roenicke proofed the team last year with JHJ & K-Rod, but still couldn't prevent him from things like Kotsay in CF or first inning sac bunts. My concern is a team like the Brewers will never have enough depth to run on auto-pilot, which means RR will likely head scratch his way to some inexpicable decisions that will continue to confound us. Having a year under his belt should help as he won't be trying out guys like Gomez and McGehee for extended periods. Not sure of the net of this...he could do worse, he could do better. Even when he screws up at least he's not a jerk in the post-game presser. Maybe my expectations are just that low.
  10. Baseball Prospectus gives puts the Brewers in 2nd place at 88 wins...behind the Cards, but 2nd best record in the NL. Probably a function of a weaker schedule with such a crummy division. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/odds/
  11. I've never seen a guy punish a ball like Glenn Braggs in BP...including Prince. Guy didn't have an inch of fat on him. He seemed like the perfect five tool player. At the time I thought for sure his bust would be in Cooperstown next to Yount, Molitor and Cecil Cooper. Didn't Joey Meyer hit 1000 homers at El Paso? I remember getting his autograph at a baseball card show. The line was out the door...at the same show there was no line for Bob Feller...he couldn't believe the line for Joey, but I got to talk to him for 10 minutes. Joey Meyer...unreal.
  12. They'd be in great shape with Greinke locked up. Yo, Greinke, Narv, maybe a one-year extension on a Wolf or Wolf-like guy and 4 shots on goal over the next few years with the prospects. Marcum just becomes a pricey option as his price goes up and the productivity likely wanes. Get Greinke locked up and they just need to have a couple of these prospects hit.
  13. Even those that have the Brewers third admit they will contend in a 3 team race. There's a few sky is falling guys in the national press with Prince gone, but most guys get it. It's roughly 33% Reds, 33% Brewers, 33% Cards, 1% Field. I thought Melvin said it best in the 30 Clubs in 30 Days on MLB...it's 3 teams that are all built for 85 wins. I think he's right...and one will likely win 90 and the division.
  14. Although he was in that series...just on Marlins. He was replaced the inning before in a double switch. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200310140.shtml
  15. Braun never got jeered in road games I've been to on the west coast (LA, Anaheim, SF, SD, AZ). I even sat next to a group of little leaguers in Brewers hats last year who were from LA, but Braun fans. The jeering was usually reserved for Prince. He always got an earful in LA, before and after the clubhouse charge. In LA, between the drug test, beating Kemp for MVP and no "cover" from Prince, I expect it to be a little different for Braun this year.
  16. I liked the show overall. How can you not love an hour straight on the Brew Crew at the point where this out of towner is desperate for news? I thought it was a fair overview as well. I though Melvin's quote about the Cards, Reds and Brewers all being 85 win type teams showed some intellectual honesty that he knows the hand he's dealt. John Hart adds some real insight on the team in both their positives and negatives. It also seemed the camaraderie of the team has carried over to the 2012 version. The one negative was Mitch Williams. I'm just not a big fan of the guy. Guys like him and Harold Reynolds are big drawbacks for me on the MLB network. Too much consensus thinking and too awkward in their interviews when trying to joke around.
