  1. I thought he might be battling Jason Kendall for a starting spot.
  2. Just when I thought I was out...they keep pulling me back in...dang you Yuni... A planted tree placed strategically between 2nd and 3rd would be better than Yuni, although I will hand it to the guy...he ran into a couple hot streaks including the playoffs. Gonzalez should be similar at the plate, but a huge upgrade defensively...hence a huge upgrade overall. I just hope he stays healthy.
  3. Maybe if Uecker can make a national career out of broadcasting in Milwaukee, so can BA. Of course he doesn't have the ties to the city that Ueck had, but he's certainly building them. None of the national gigs are really full time so the risk would be losing him to another larger baseball market. If hope he stays as long as possible...I really think he's one of the best.
  4. Player of the Year: Rickie Weeks...the second straight Brewer to win the NL MVP. His bat will even be good enough to win a gold glove. Pitcher of the Year: Greinke...if he just avoids those one or two pitches that cost him last year, he'll be dominant. Rookie of the Year: Peralta...he could wind up being the 7th inning guy before year end. Extension: Axford...I'd much rather see Greinke here, but it takes two willing parties. That points me to Ax. Improvement: Gamel...he finds his inner Lyle Overbay and is perfectly adequate. Disappointment: Marcum...I hope I'm wrong, but I see a DL stint in his future. First moved: Parra...he's traded to Detroit where he becomes Prince's roommate. In reality it will probably be some middling prospect in a trade before the deadline for a guy like JHJ or Felipe Lopez. 87-75...2nd in Central, #2 Wild Card team. I think they get nipped by the Reds. The starting lineup and pitching are better than people think and the loss of Prince doesn't kill them, but they won't avoid an injury in the rotation the way they did last year. The lack of depth will force an air pocket during the season.
  5. Forget the WAR, the added apparel sales from 3TO merchandise bought by bf.netters may be enough to extend Braun for another 5 years.
  6. Blasphemous!!! 3TO will bring the power of a 1000 suns into Yankee stadium and threaten power records normally reserved for Ruth, Mantle & Maris.
  7. I'm not buying the Dodgers rumor. McCourt is solely concerned with maximizing near term cash flow until the sale. They just wanted to save some face by throwing it out there with a "See fans, we're trying" story, especially given the Angels signing of Pujols. I don't buy it. Think of it like the Brewers making the lowball CC offer. I do agree with the poster on Ilitch. I had no idea he was that old. He sees his window and his mortality closing and he wants to go for it. Can't blame him since he may not be around during the uglier part of the contract.
  8. Houston Strip Malls or maybe something related to Houston's most prominent cultural landmark...The Galleria?
  9. Congrats Prince...you earned every dollar the market would bear. Gotta hand it to the devil Boras. If Prince wanted the big contract, he hired the right guy. I thought nothing above the 8/180. I have nothing but fond memories of the big fella's time in Milwaukee...although a couple extra playoff wins last year wouldn't have hurt. I'm sure he feels the same way. Glad he's staying in the Midwest...while I won't pull for the Tigers, I will sure root for Prince. I'd love to be there cheering at that future interleague game. A contract like that would have crippled the Brewers so no harm there and unlike when CC left, at least we don't get screwed on the picks. Time to reload.
  10. The bar has been lowered...
  11. While there will be disappointments and let downs, both Yuni and Kotsay were already way deep in the brewerfan doghouse before they even played. We were 50 pages into a Yuni bashing thread before opening day (32 were from me and No, we weren't wrong). I don't sense the same "what is DM thinking?" player on the roster yet...but there is still time.
  12. Way better than feared...although as pointed out, there may some some incentives or deferred dough. Needed flexibility with payroll, and if they are out of it they can move him for prospects. Way to make lemonade from the lemon DM.
  13. Hmmm...isn't that the same contract we gave Eric Gagne?
  14. Hmmm...I had JimH5 pegged as the lone vote for Wes Obermueller. Do we need to debate the merits of guys already in the Walk or just prospective honorees?
  15. I nominate hawing as Chair of the brewerfan Walk of Fame committee...an honor somewhere between being the 92nd caller on WOKY and having your birthday sung by the waitstaff at TGI Fridays! My first ballot would be for an inaugural class of Bud Selig, Hank Aaron, Robin Yount, George Petak, Frank Charles, Russell Branyan and Brian the Automator. Can you imagine the scene at the awards ceremony with everyone fighting over seats at 3TO's table?
  16. I feel the same way about Fingers as I do about Gumby...1st ballot Walk of Fame, but retiring numbers should be left for the Younts & Aarons of the world. The closest number to getting retired before Fingers should have been Cooper, but even there I'd probably hold off. You don't want to wind up like the Bucks where they've diluted the number retirements by having so many. Keep the number retirements tight...get a little looser on the walk of fame, with extra points for guys that meant a lot to the community and made fans feel good beyond their accomplishments on the field. Hence my support for Augie (I admit my bias since he's my all-time favorite), along with Crandall & Logan.
  17. Obermueller gets a vote...that's hilarious. Unlike some of you, I would vote for Augie!!! In my completely biased opinion I can't believe he hasn't made it already. I wish I could stuff the box for the guy. Adcock & Logan should be in there for sure, especially Johnny not only as a player, but due to his commitment to keeping the Braves legacy alive after they were stolen from Milwaukee and since he's still alive. Don't wait until he's gone voters.
  18. We can only hope they buckle under the pressure of Chicago sports talk radio and revert to their normal idiocy...but with their minor league talent, a real GM for once and a potentially large payroll, I can't help but think they are going to own the second half of the decade in the NL Central.
  19. Seems like a decent lower risk buy low contract. Yeah, the injury risk is there...but for 2 years that's a nice deal for them. Why does it always seem we have to go an extra year on our contracts versus the Cards?
  20. Great. 6 games blacked out in LA...darn you MLB and your antiquated blackout rules!
  21. Good luck Casey...I'm not sure if Pittsburgh is getting a good bat like '09 & '10 or the one he had last year, but they are getting a great guy. I hope the little guy likes Pittsburgh too.
  22. I feel horrible for the organization and Mark A who has done so much to put a winner on the field. I hope against hope Braun wins the appeal, but I've never believed any of these guys before so I'm not going to start now. This is devastating...and unfortunately the kind of thing that could absolutely ruin this franchise. There's no room for error when you're the Brewers and if Braun is juicing, he may not be the same player we thought he was, the fans may turn on him which could ruin attendance and you can kiss any thought of any decent free agent wanting to play here goodbye. I'm probably being over dramatic, but right now this truly feels like the end of the road for this Brewers renaissance. Say it ain't so Ryan...say it ain't so...
  23. Do you think they can fit "Anybody but Yuni" on the back of his uniform?
  24. The comments from the Brewers seem to be versed between "showing Prince respect for his time here and trying to put a good face on the commitment to fans" and "being really sick of agents using them to bid up offers they can take to places they really want to play".
  25. I don't blame Melvin either. Everything is a calculated risk. He took a shot and lost, but while he's overpaying for KRod, it's only a one year deal and he's still a very good player. While I can't stand the tired old way that managers use their bullpens, having an "8th inning guy" helps Roenicke-proof the bullpen. There's an oversupply of closers and a shortage of shortstops...that's what is hurting us.
