  1. The slide looked aggressive to say the least, dirty at it's worst. A slide like that won't always cause an injury. When making the turn, they teach you to point your knee at the sliding runner so if you are hit it won't bust up your knee. It lessens the probability of other leg injuries as well. Unfortunately the awkward position of the SS didn't help matters in regards to the injury.
  2. I like the one gamer. It's exciting, keeps more teams in it and gives a distinct advantage to the division winners. The worst thing baseball could do is turn the playoffs into what hockey and basketball have where the season is as meaningful as spring training. It's the same issue I have with college football...just win your division or conference otherwise who cares. If the Cubs or Pirates were so good, then beat the Cardinals a couple more times otherwise you get what you get.
  3. I guess it would continue the hard-ass/nice guy merry go round they've been on. I hope he's mellowed since then, the article makes him sound like a total clown.
  4. Would rather not see expansion...that's just 2 more teams that could keep the Brewers from winning a WS. Since the last couple rounds of expansion Arizona has one, Miami has two and we lost one to a strike...that's 4 years worth of titles that could have gone to more deserving fan bases. I'd rather contract a few teams...starting with Chicago and St. Louis. There will likely be expansion to Mexico City by one of the major sports leagues in our lifetime. That would be a good sign for Mexico as a nation.
  5. Tunnell seemed to have a good rep as a minor league instructor. Maybe that's all for his John Axford reclamation project. Seems he might be a good candidate to stay somewhere in the organization. Who knows...these guys know what's really going on and need to get people in that are on board with how they want things done. Hopefully they find those types.
  6. That was funny. Rock was dripping with sarcasm about the Cards on numerous comments. I've been more of a teamtank guy myself, but if they're going to pull one out of their backside it doesn't get more fun than doing it against the Cards.
  7. [sarcasm]No platoon, same guy.[/sarcasm] (Only those >40 years old will get that joke.) Well played sir.
  8. If the Brewers hung on to Fiers, they might be 54-71 or even 55-70 instead. The trade is obviously a bust.
  9. If you have to pay $30mm to get rid of him, would you rather have Braun at $75mm or his replacement?
  10. The schadenfreude meter just hit full tilt. With our luck Matheny probably figured it wouldn't hurt them, but would cost us a draft position on a future Hall of Famer.
  11. Had no idea Chuckie Newhouse was having that good of a season. They constantly turn water into wine with these pitchers...Broxton's ERA will probably be under 2.00 by year end.
  12. You guys are barking up the wrong tree with the Dodgers. They are using their deep pockets to absorb other teams contracts and taking their prospects in the deals. If Braun goes to the Dodgers, we'd be sending them the prospects not the other way around. I wouldn't want to be on the other side of any of their trades. It's a mismatch of brain power and money. I'd rather see the Brewers act like the Dodgers a little. Take on a bad 1-2 year contract that includes some impact prospects from an irrational player like the Marlins. A mini-Dodgers version using some new found limited financial flexibility.
  13. Can't even watch these Cubs games...I just want bad things to happen to their annoying fans. I just keep telling myself that all that dough they're bringing up north will help offset local attendance declines and every loss is a better draft pick for us.
  14. Wow. Superstars at the top and depth all the way down to the bottom of the list. Although not much in the way of pitching. Very JZ-esque. I sure hope the current list looks like this a year from now...then 10 years from now.
  15. So we owe him $3.3mm rest of this year and $1mm buyout...saves us $1.3mm and we get a prospect. Sounds good. edit: We kick in $3mm. Buyout goes up by $1mm when he's traded. I think that knocks down the savings from $2.3mm to $1.3mm.
  16. Love all three of these guys. Played hard, played well. Fun to watch. GoGo...I'll miss that sexy beast. Go Astros.
  17. Hopefully a few trade chips moved their value up on this trip.
  18. Really awful story that has become too common in our society. Hamilton really seemed to embrace his Brewers roots recently. He was outstanding on the radio. I really thought he'd make a great replacement when (and if) Ueck retires. I think he was a coach at the Fantasy Camp this year as well. Incredibly sad story.
  19. I have 2 young daughters and specifically buy seats under the netting when I take them to games. They pay moderate attention to the games and I spend more time tracking down food vendors for them than actually watching the game. Being under the net means I still have good seats and I don't have to worry if I'm distracted that my kid will get hit by a ball or tackled by three drunk guys who are all fighting for a $10 souvenir. I'd rather see more netting, but only because that would give me more choice in seats for my own personal preferences.
  20. I don't think they would have traded Gallardo or been bringing up all these minor leaguers if they weren't retooling. In a perfect world they are trading everyone and the furniture for a half a dozen top 50 prospects, but you can't force a market that doesn't exist.
  21. I'd take the Mets since they have the only announcers I listen to other than ours. Dodgers might be good since I could see them more live, yet less on TV since they aren't on DirecTV.
  22. I guess I don't get the frustration with DM now. If someone was already frustrated with him due to the philosophy they've had by trading away the future to maximize the present, that's rational. However, f someone agrees with that philosophy, this season is simply the payback for what was traded away. No reason to be anymore frustrated now than before IMO. I'm not necessarily opposed to what they did. I really enjoyed 08 & 11. I just hope they draft better and they seem to be on a better track there. I also hope they realize they aren't going to win in any near term timeframe so they need to be aggressive sellers of any sale able part. Also...to the poster who compared how he runs money compared to baseball, I don't think the analogy works. If you run money and wind up in the 50th percentile every year, you'll actually do quite well since you won't have blown your clients up. Many may do better in a given year but you'll be well ahead over a long time. I'd rather have you running my money than running my baseball team ;-) In baseball, 50 pct every year means no flags on the wall.
  23. No kidding. Don't blame the messenger. BA is one of the best.
