  1. That was one epic fail. Tough to think that won't come back to haunt us. Especially since RR will likely go to Estrada here.
  2. If you don't like the Tony-ball, then do something about it...now's the chance.
  3. I'll take that. Battle of the bullpens...I guess we'll see what the new additions the Cards pen look like.
  4. Saito here? Hoping so. Saito/KRod/Ax...still need to get through that lineup.
  5. I actually thought it was a fairly rational discussion of the bogus-ness of Duncan's comment...until the Brewers fans started trolling.
  6. Is there a higher leverage situation out there than this?
  7. Russ - Does that factor in being at home vs. ATL and on the road vs. PHI? Just curious. PHI, ATL and SF all seem like similar teams...great starting pitching, solid bullpens and better defense, but weaker lineups than the Brewers. Maybe the Phils with Utley are on par or better, but the Braves & Giants aren't. They are all beatable in a short series.
  8. Can Chris Carpenter call my wife and explain to her why I'm down in the basement screaming at the TV? It's Big Boy time!!! Let's do this!!!
  9. Maybe one of the McCourt lawyers gets an American Bar Association award, but not Kemp. No one even cares about the Dodgers in LA, why would the national writers?
  10. This could make some sense especially against the Phils & Reds. He could wind up in that role if they make the playoffs as well. The schedule is quirky...they could skip a few Narveson starts with the extra days off, but still may need Estrada/Wholestaff to start the double header on the 2nd...unless 3 starters go on short rest.
  11. The Reds remind me of the Brewers of the last couple seasons. Flashes of brilliance, a better than average team with a stud #1 starter...but too many holes to stay consistent. That schedule allows to make up some ground, but the Cards & Brewers schedules aren't much tougher other than having to play each other.
  12. As far as the trades, I think DM got as much as could be reasonably expected. Factoring in the off-season trades and the substantial cost in prospects they had to pay, they were devoid of the amount of chips that others had. Greinke, Marcum, Plush, K-Rod, Saito and now decent little pickups with JHJ & Lopez. All nice jobs. If there is a weakness it was 1) Replacing Yuni. There were better chances to do this before the season. I hope his recent regression to his below average mean didn't keep them from making a move, but they should have been more realistic in what they had before the season started. 2) LH reliever. DM couldn't have known before the season that their LH options would drop the way they have. My guess is he tried, but the price was dear and there wasn't much out there. 3) RH power bench bat. Would've been nice if the price was right. Overall a decent job by DM, but the SS situation does leave them open. Also, the Cards may have given up too much in Rasmus, but they have really improved their pitching weaknesses with their trades. Furcal offers some upside as well. This division will likely be decided on the field in 12 games with the Cards.
  13. I don't think he's lazy. I just think he's physically incapable of getting to baseballs. He lacks flexibility, he's not all that fast, and he doesn't have quick feet. Lopez was lazy...probably still is. Betancourt is just not a good athlete. I'd agree with the Crew here. Yuni is about as fundamentally poor of a fielder as you'll ever see. Unlike someone like Braun, he doesn't have the physical skills to make up for his poor technique. You could argue Counsell is well beyond his expiration date, but just watch how he fields a routine grounder versus Yuni. He moves his body in position to take the ball in the middle of his stance, gets his body low and puts his glove out in front. Yuni stands up straight and fields the ball at his side...just terrible fundamentals. By playing more upright he costs himself lateral movement as well. Little league parents should be required to sign a waiver or make their kids wear blindfolds before attending a Brewers game. I think back of when Hardy was here how guys knocked his range. Maybe there was some truth there, but he was so fundamentally sound that he rarely blew anything in his range. Despite being one of the slowest land mammals on the planet, the guy was a plus fielder.
  14. I'll say 16-12. I think they will continue to struggle to score runs without Rickie, but I see no reason why the pitching won't stay good. The starters are rolling and the bullpen is almost Roenicke proof with K Rod out there.
  15. The Cubs are so awful it makes it easier...but not tonight! Nice win for the northsiders...that's a 2 1/2 game lead over the Classies heading into the big series. Nice to see the Crew take care of business the last 6 games while the Cards went 4-3 against the same dregs at home. We even beat Cy McFlappyglove while they lost to him. Maybe we can return the favor by putting a fastball in Holliday's ribcage after that "classy" slide into Castro. OK Brewers, Brewers, Keep turnin' up the heat!!!
  16. Note to self...never trade with the Rockies.
  17. Even Prince impressed himself there. Nice to see the big boy belting a boomer before the Classies come to town.
  18. Guess it was too much to ask for the Cubs to make a 5-0 lead hold up. Normally it's a food thing they suck so bad.
