  1. What was Black doing with that latex glove in the bullpen. Why does he need to wear protection to rub his shoulders.
  2. Lamet has over an 11 K/9 in the majors and it was even higher in the minors. He can do this to a lot of lineups on a good day.
  3. I thought they had 3 straight winning seasons between 1987 and 1989. But still, it’s been a long time. They were .500 in 89 so they had 3 straight non losing seasons.
  4. 538 has Brewers at 65% now, Cubs at 56%. If you are someone who doesn't buy into run differential those numbers skew even more heavily towards the Brewers.
  5. Up to 60% on 538 with the Cardinals loss. Still behind the Cubs, Cardinals and Nats though. Just so many paths to the playoffs we are now likely to find one of them.
  6. This was definitely one I was wrong on. Not so much that I was losing sleep at giving up Dubon, but I just thought we could have gotten someone with a longer track record or more control.
  7. Brewers have had a losing season 6 times in the past 15 seasons. They had 12 straight losing seasons before that. 78-92 the Brewers were a good team overall and then 05-19 they have been a good team. If they can keep this window going and be good for a couple more years it will be the best overall stretch in franchise history. Adding a WS appearance would obviously make it even better~.
  8. Biggio hit for the cycle tonight. Only the second father/son combo to ever hit for the cycle joining Gary and Daryle Ward.
  9. and commies, he hated commies too. http://m.quickmeme.com/img/69/69957348e5bc5c7c7989d6ffd391d0808793083c3a8f121ef81a3986b784c213.jpg
  10. The way he is throwing I don't think you see anyone else unless somebody gets on. That insurance run made it easier.
  11. Realistically which team do we want to win this game though? I mean I think our playoff odds are better if the Nats lose and we gain a game on them. But if I could choose the results I want the Cardinals to be out of the playoffs. We historically play so poorly against them I want nothing to do with them come the postseason.
  12. With these small samples I would normally trust the scouts over the analytics. But the scouts are so mixed on what he is that it is hard to rely on them. What he has actually done at the major league level so far this year doesn't look very good even if the actual stats look good. Process generally trumps results, especially when you are talking these really tiny sample sizes. It is one of the keys to winning at fantasy baseball, being able to understand when the basic stats aren't telling you what is truly happening.
  13. Lmao. This call is so stupid. Why would one call a park ranger if they saw a moose? "Well, sir, you're in a park, and the moose lives here. I'm not sure what you want me to do." It isn't a zoo, isn't the moose always loose? I don't think anyone expects anything Dan Plesac says to make sense, most things are just funny when he says it since he gets so into it~.
  14. He probably is but smart teams aren't likely to go after him just for this streak. This is what he has been his entire career. Hack in the field, gets insanely hot for a month at a time and then is kind of terrible for a few months as well. He has had a stretch like this every season of his career.
  15. At least use some stats that are approaching being meaningful in that small sample. His average exit velocity is well below average at 83.6. His barrel rate is just awful, one of the worst in baseball. His xwOBA is .286 which is also well below average. His walk rate is downright ugly. The only really good thing he is doing right now is not striking out and that carries a good bit of value in today's game imo. His launch angle is also decent so he is at least hitting the ball in the proper plane. The samples are too small for any stat to really capture things so far but overall Dubon's stats don't paint a very pretty picture so far.
  16. Gio has allowed an .894 OPS against from righties this season. Nothing wrong at all with using him the way he was used this game.
  17. It is pretty hard to expect the Reds to take any games here, they are a really bad team. Not sure who I'm cheering for in the Nats vs Cardinals.
  18. If you knew all this would happen why did you want to fire Stearns for not selling high on Yelich & Hader at the deadline? I also doubt everyone was resigned to us not making the playoffs. I never thought it was over. That Cubs series created a pretty large hill to climb though. It is the nature of baseball though, if you spout stuff out constantly you are going to be correct every once in a while because the game is so unpredictable.
  19. Well if we go 8-5 that is the same as a 100 win pace over a season. 7-6 is an 87 win pace which seems more reasonable. I doubt their projections can take into account teams sitting starters because they are out of the race either. Even if it could you have hard to project rookies stepping in and who knows what they are going to do.
  20. He did look really gassed multiple times over the past month. I completely agree he needs rest. I just don't think was the time to give it to him. Baby him the rest of the way and hope it doesn't cost you a game against these bad teams.
  21. Yeah I'll freely admit that i was wrong on Woodruff. Out of the 3 rookies he was the one I thought would fail but he proved me wrong, he was outstanding before the injury. I barely mentioned him because I didn't think he was as important to the staff but if we do miss the playoffs his injury is probably the biggest reason since it spanned so much larger a time span than Yelich's did. We tend to forget it at this point but Knebel's injury was huge too. We would easily have 2 or 3 more wins on the season if he hadn't got hurt before it even started.
  22. I think it was the right move. We don't play another team with a realistic shot at the playoffs the rest of the season. These are the games we can do without him, we needed 2 of 3 vs the Cardinals. We know that the Cubs/Cardinals are going to combine for 7 losses and that the Cardinals/Nats/DBacks and Phillies are going to combine for 10 more. As long as we don't crap the bed against these bad teams there is a really solid shot that we make the playoffs just because of how the schedule pans out.
  23. So just to put the pitching staff into perspective I will quote myself from March to show just how highly I thought of it going into the season. I realize that first line makes me look dumb too but I included it for honesty sake~. "Chacin is the one guy I have faith in. Chase Anderson had a 5.22 FIP last season and a 5.09 in 2016, he easily can be replacement level. Burnes has never started a regular season game in the majors so his range of outcomes are huge. Peralta had a 4.25 ERA, can't pitch from the stretch and relies way too much on his fastball. Woodruff's FIPs were in the mid 4's in the minors. Davies has been all over the place for his entire career This rotation could easily be just terrible, there is no comfort level that it has 7 above average pitchers like you suggest. In fact there is almost no way that is actually true. Nelson cannot be trusted for anything on the season, we have no clue if he is going to get healthy and if he does if he will pitch at full strength. I know I'm looking at the bleak side of things but that side does exist, this could be one of the worst rotations in baseball and it would not surprise me at all. It could also be above average. It is a very volatile rotation. What is painfully clear though is that the rotation is going to have to be babied. None of them are safe the 3rd time through the order and none of them are particularly efficient. We are going to be dipping into the bullpen in the 6th inning on a regular basis and many games in the 5th inning. The bullpen is going to have to save the rotation to make this work. Maybe we just look at baseball differently but this team went as far as it did despite the rotation last season, it was easily the weakest part of the team. We protected it with an overextended bullpen and got lucky that Miley was so good. Overall it was the weakness of the team and I expect the same to be true this season." The pitching was a huge concern going into the season and the fact it hasn't been great says absolutely nothing about the pitching coach. This is just sort of the expected result, maybe a tad bit on the lower end result but not by a whole lot. This was a really risky part of the team going into the season.
