  1. It might not look like much but Arcia did show some positives this year at the plate. He struck out less, he walked a lot more. He got the ball in the air more and he hit the ball harder. His xwOBA went from .237 to .280 which is a huge leap albeit still below average for a major league player. I would probably give him one more year to prove he can put it all together.
  2. I think the Braves have a clear advantage but the playoffs are a complete crapshoot. Bad teams get hot and go all the way pretty often. Also for the other comment above, bullpen heavy teams are a perfect fit for the wild card, the structure of the teams gives the Brewers a huge advantage in this game. However, the fact everyone is hurt makes it pretty unlikely we are going to go on a run. Hard to go on a run when most of your top guys are all trying to play hurt or out.
  3. Exactly. He had the ball in his glove, so how can you expect him to step aside in that instance. He had the ball and applied the tag. If the catcher is expected to move out of the way, and risk missing the tag, the rule is even dumber than I thought. If the throw forces the catcher into the base path it is the defenses fault and it should be called. Make the fielders throw the ball to the proper place. Otherwise the rule is dumber than i thought.
  4. Hader has given up 1 HR in the past 6 weeks. I don't think the long ball is still a big issue with him. At least not compared to the rest of the bullpen.
  5. Not go into the basepath to catch the ball. If the ball pushes you into blocking the plate it is your fault, not the runners. There is no reason to have this rule in place if that isn't called obstruction, it makes no sense.
  6. I just don't understand this rule at all, they never call it so why have the rule. That is exactly the play they are trying to stop here and when the catcher messes it up they never call it.
  7. Except didn't the Rockies get a late run in that one? Off JJ? No, we won 6-0. JJ gave up a couple of base runners and Hader cleaned it up.
  8. I think Cain knows he should have been on 3rd base after that last pitch and tried to force something there. Stinks because it cost us a run.
  9. Really? Not a single thing to do with the outcome? Ok then... You can't say speed had nothing to do with it. If it was Grisham running, there wouldn't have even been a throw to home, he'd have beaten it easily. Grandal is slow, really slow, and Eddie should know that. no ay he should have been sent. If he gets thrown out, which he did, we have a guy at 2B, and 2 outs rather than 2nd and 3rd with one out. Speed obviously matters but if he had just run through the plate he would have crossed the plate before the ball even got to it. Grandal's speed is not why he got out here, his poor path to the plate and slide for no good reason is why. He had plenty of speed to score if he just ran the base properly.
  10. On a normal play I agree but this hit the padding in the wall at weird angle and bounced away from Blackmon. That gave him a lot more time than is normal for this type of play. That's the kind of play that turns into a triple when it should be a double. It kind of gives you one extra base.
  11. Stand by it all you want but even with a perfect throw he should have been able to just run through home without a slide, that is 100% blame on Grandal and 0% on Sedar. He should have been safe by a mile.
  12. If he takes a normal path to home he is safe by a mile, that is all on Grandal. That is with a more or less perfect set of throws too, if the throws were even a tiny bit off he walks into home. can't blame Sedar for that.
  13. They don't account for things like everyone on one team resting so yeah they are a bit flawed for this final little stretch. Our odds to win the division are probably lower than this gives us credit for and our odds to take home field in the wild card are probably higher.
  14. He isn't the only player to be in 4 playoffs for the Brewers. This is Counsell's 4th as well!
  15. I have no big problem with this. I do think it is pretty funny how pecota picked the Cubs 3rd place and everyone went crazy at how stupid they are. Cubs ending in 3rd place.
  16. I don't believe the Brewers will win out. They have at least one loss left maybe two. I just don't see the Brewers making up that 1 game difference. {Mod Removed} Every team in baseball is capable of a terrible or amazing 5 game stretch. The Nats could easily lose the rest of their games and it wouldn't be a surprise at all. Over a 5 game sample anything can happen. So trying to say making up 1 game is out of reach is just completely wrong given how baseball actually works. The Houston Astros are probably the best team in baseball, From April 17th to April 22nd they lost 4 of 5 against the A's and Rangers, from June 16th-June 22nd they lost 7 straight games playing against the Blue Jays, Reds and Yankees. From August 13th through August 17th they lost 5 straight against the White Sox and the A's. There is no way that the Nats are some sort of uncatchable team right now.
  17. If you honestly think WC1 isn't in play you just haven't watched enough baseball. A 1 game lead with 5 games to go isn't safe even if for some reason we were talking a 1 game lead by the Astros over the Orioles, much less the Nats over the Brewers. If you are just being defeatist carry on.
  18. Macha's in game managing was fine but he didn't seem to do a very good job off the field as the players just never seemed to warm up to him and he was horrible at handling the media. The job has a lot of requirements.
  19. Jeffress was one of the best RP in the game in Sept of 2018. He faced 37 batters in the month, only gave up 3 hits and had 15 strike outs to 3 walks. Jeffress did not look tired at all going into the playoffs last year. In fact Sept was the best month of his season. Jeffress pitched poorly in the playoffs and maybe Counsell should have backed off of him more than he did, but he wasn't gassed going into them so he had to be given a decent amount of leash. He was given like 8 days off at one point in the playoffs, so he should have been rested, gave up the big HR and then wasn't used in a high leverage situation again in the playoffs. The one game where he maybe should not have pitched was game 7 but that was in the 6th inning and the entire bullpen had been used heavily so hard to know if it was going to be avoidable using him.
  20. And most of the time they do. Chacin was not a good pitcher last year, he had good results. Those are two very different statements. If your opinion of what makes a good pitcher is based on small samples of ERA your opinion is simply not valid. It takes 500 IP for ERA to become even marginally meaningful, it just isn't a stat you should be basing pitcher success on. It is like saying whether a hitter is good or bad based on his number of triples, it seriously is that bad of a stat to rely on.
