  1. They did in very classy fashion with actual glassware... Cheers to the start of a week long hangover for the Cardinals! IMO this is a way better way to celebrate rather than spraying it all over everything. Definitely, especially better than the everyone wear safety goggles and spray champaign method which is the second worst celebration in the game. Everyone smoking a cigar being by far the worst, just disgusting and trashy.
  2. Not only that ... he was legitimately good. He had a 4.58 SIERRA last year. His past 8 seasons by sierra are 5.14, 4.27, 4.77, 4.28, 4.38, 4.63, 4.58, 5.01. His skills haven't changed at all, just his ERA has which is basically random over a single season.
  3. I am pretty laid back with managers in general. Usually there is what I feel is the optimum play, there are 2 or 3 choices that make sense and then 1 or 2 that only an utter fool would do. Yost consistently lived in the utter fool area. Never seen a manager that was so bad at the in game part of managing before. Royals fans have been begging for him to be gone since 2014, most even wanted him gone during the world series run. Here is just one detailed example of how bad he was, if you search you can find quite a few more and if you pour over the box scores you probably find triple digit horrible decisions. https://www.royalsreview.com/2014/9/15/6150833/the-needful-end-of-ned-yost You will notice in this case he didn't go to the lefty even though the batter up was one of the worst in the entire game against lefties. Everyone in the stadium was surprised including the hitter and the other teams manager. When asked why he did it after the game Yost replied he wanted a strike out. The RP's K/9 was 5.0, one of the worst in the league. Then when asked why he didn't use a different specific pitcher his reply was "Asked why he didn’t just use Herrera in that spot then, Yost said: “Aaron Crow’s inning is the sixth inning. Kelvin’s is the seventh" Yost was just awful. Probably the worst manager I've ever seen in my 40 years of watching baseball, at least at in game managing. I can't speak to the off the field stuff. He was the Yuni B of managers.
  4. Good manager, nice managerial career with 16 years as skipper. Too bad he was fired in 2008 as a knee jerk reaction, probably would have gotten more out of the 2009 and 2010 clubs than Ken Macha. Yost is probably the worst manager the team ever had, but Macha really wasn't much better.
  5. Yost to retire after this season. https://www.kansascity.com/sports/mlb/kansas-city-royals/article235384632.html
  6. These things aren't perfect but given how hard it was and the launch angle etc the expected AVG on that ball was .780. I don't think that takes shifts etc into account though.
  7. With the win last night the Brewers chance to win the World Series doubled! Up to 2%!
  8. There was no reason to think the Pirates would be good this year, it was a bad team going into the season that if anything had a number of guys play way over their heads. Their best season they just played way over their heads, they just have not been a good team. The 2013 team was good, the 2014 team was pretty good, the 2015 team played way over their heads.
  9. wild card game is a 25-man roster. game 163 and anything beyond prior to the wild card game or nlds is a 40-man roster. But the days off for these games means that for the most part everyone is available every game outside of a couple of starting pitchers. The 3 game set is the only time you are really limited outside of SP as some of your bullpen is probably off limits.

  11. Being 1 AB away from beating the Dodgers last season didn't get you thinking? The Brewers matched them or maybe even outplayed them last year in the playoffs but just couldn't get that final hit.
  12. Arcia is probably good enough against lefties so just need to find a left handed hitter to share time with him and the two together should be ok.
  13. Last year I said it looked like the Cubs window was closing in the next couple of years and that they had wasted away a dynasty and I mostly got called names for my bad take~. I think they would gladly do it all over again though, they won the world series and that was the goal. People talk about the Dodgers but for all of their sustained success they haven't been able to get those final few pieces to win it all.
  14. Brewers are up to a 74% chance to make the playoffs and that is without context added in, much higher with context, I'll take it.
  15. Cardinals by far. There have been singular Cubs teams I hated more like the Zambrano, Lee, Ramirez era teams. But this Cubs team is not very hateable. It is hard to hate Bryant and Rizzo and even Cubs fans hate Russell I think. Baez is easy to hate for non Cubs fans though. I tend to hate the Vikings more than the Bears too because the Vikings have way more obnoxiously awful players than the Bears.
  16. In what has been a heavily BABIP driven bad offensive year Cain still gave us over 1 WAR. That is 6.8 WAR so far which is worth roughly 5M per WAR he has given us like 34M in value so far out of 80M. It isn't hard to see a path to this contract working out to be honest. Lets just hope this is the down year and not the new level.
  17. If they fall behind Braun I walk him to face Cain.
  18. His stats are crazy but he is 0-5 so he can be had at times. Lets hope for a miracle.
  19. Brewers OPS against on 0-2 counts is .450 on the season. That seems low but compared to the league it is an OPS+ of 128 (which is a bad thing). However most of that OPS+ comes from BABIP, singles and doubles not homers. Their OPS+ in 1-2 counts is a meager 73 and it is a larger sample. There really is very little proof that this has been a problem for them this season though no proof it hasn't been either.
  20. Cubs are really lucky they aren't losing like 7-1 here. Reds threatening every inning and just can't seem to score. Meanwhile the Cubs have 1 run on 1 hit. Tie game.
  21. They didn't replay them unfortunately but I think that first check swing by Manny was a strike and the second one was a makeup call that should have been a ball.
  22. So a ball that was called a strike (borderline, actually a strike on MLB.com) caused him to swing at two pitches in the dirt? Lol..... On another note correct call. Sucks, but correct. Yes of course it does. Sorry I watched the pitch and saw the display on the screen, it was low. It was borderline which is why I said tough to be an ump but it was a ball. The next pitch they went even lower which is a smart thing to do and he checked his swing because in his head he is thinking about the fact they are calling the low strike. The final pitch is downright in the dirt but again he swings at that low pitch to protect himself like a rookie tends to do. Everything in that pitch sequence changed the moment they called the low pitch a strike. This is pitch sequencing 101 here.
  23. That ball called a strike derailed that AB completely. He felt he had to swing at those next two pitches which were also balls. Tough job being an ump but that is sad.
  24. There aren't a lot of spots that I'm ok with a bunt but this is one of the rare ones. Decent bunter who is a bad hitter up, decently fast guy on 1st, contact hitter coming up next. Still not a definite place to bunt but an acceptable one. Kind of hard to stomach a bunt on a guy who just showed he has no control at all so far though.
