  1. His offensive numbers were some of the worst in baseball the past two years as well, not like this is some new things. When you can't manage a .300 OBP you are going to really struggle to put up value.
  2. I still fully expect them to fall to around .500 at some point, that is not a good rotation at all and it seems the entire lineup is playing over their heads so far.
  3. Betancourt is clearly a terrible hitter, lets not beat around the bush here. Luckily Tejada is back playing SS which will save Betancourt from being the worst full time SS in baseball this year. Though it won't surprise me if we somehow manage to downgraded at SS by trading for Tejada. I can only hope we at least trade for a LH SS at some point to steal more AB from Betancourt. Even if it is another utility type like Counsell, every game we can sit Betancourt improves the team.
  4. If we learned that Betancourt had no business in the majors and Gomez should bat at the bottom of the order the team would be so much better.
  5. Yep, we should all channel our angst into the player who is clearly below replacement level.
  6. Worth noting that every single team has a 7 game schedule this week. I'm guessing it is to accommodate the start of interleague.
  7. Phillips, Gomes and Cueto seem like complete tools. Other than those guys I do like the Reds. None of the teams really bring hatred from me though, not even the Cubs really.
  8. I really wish this were true but Kotsay has been a bad player for way too long now to think it is.
  9. They are just babying Hart some, day game after a night game. I really don't have some issue against it.
  10. I think they are still just trying to protect Hart, day game after a night game means sit. Gomez is likely sitting just because he looked terrible last night. I don't have a problem with this lineup at all.
  11. All I can say is the team who signs your player shouldn't make a difference. The fact that some scrub team signed your mega free agent shouldn't change your pick, the fact that some team signed an even better guy shouldn't change your compensation. The entire system is pretty terrible. You should assign value to a player and get value based on that assignation regardless of who signs what players.
  12. This doesn't really seem like what happened from my point of view. Weeks tried to spin around Cedeno at the last minute but they both moved the same way and collided. Cedeno obviously said something that Weeks didn't like, I assume he was the one who complained about the contact and then things went from there. This article seems completely backwards. Do I just have Brewer's glasses on?
  13. I would imagine part of swinging at the first pitch has to do with the pitchers tendencies. I agree that Hardy is a good example of someone who just took too many first pitch strikes and some guys just swing way too much at it but if your scouting report says he likes to throw first pitch strikes you should be going up looking to swing a lot of the time.
  14. Oscar Gamble and Bake McBride take issue with your statement. Not sure what the original post was about, but I can honestly say Coco Crisp has the best haircut in baseball right now.
  15. One of my pet peeves is people complaining about strike outs by your leadoff hitter. There is no spot in the order that a K hurts you less than the leadoff hitter. They come up with nobody on more than any other hitter on the team and a K is the same as any other out in that situation. You want a good OBP obviously but you can strike out plenty and still carry a good OBP.
  16. I actually like a comment that he hits SP with breaking stuff well. So much better than a manager playing a guy because he is 3 for 6 against a pitcher. You can group pitchers into types and if you see how your hitters do vs that type and use that info to help decisions it is a good thing. I don't know that this is what Roenicke did though, he might just be saying random stuff to justify his decision.
  17. I would guess we lose 3 of 4 of the road games most of the time. The home games include two teams that may be better than us so hoping to go 9-3 in those games is probably a stretch. MLB scheduling is always weird, I mean why did we play a day game followed by a day off and then a night game to split up our home stand, that seems like a terrible time to have that big of a gap in time played in theory at least. The fact that last game was so miserable maybe makes it a good time to have that gap.
  18. None of those guys should be full time starters but Morgan vs RHP when healthy and Gomez filling in the rest of the time wouldn't be bad. I'm guessing we go with Kotsay.
  19. If Saito, Parra and Braddock were healthy we'd have a nice deep bullpen. Unfortunately the injuries have piled up and I think the bullpen is going to be a rough area for us for a while.
  20. To be fair Macha managed to go under .500 with completely healthy teams and the players looked dead on the field when he managed, there was obviously something wrong on a personal level with him. Roenicke at this point is playing with 50% of what our bullpen should have been and that can't be easy.
  21. Combination of injured players and strange bullpen management. We've had at least two and usually three or more RPs hurt all year now and the lack of depth is really hurting.
  22. I feel bad for Randy Wolf, that has to be one of the worst defensive teams to ever take the field in a major league game.
  23. Greinke has had better peripherals than Marcum by a pretty wide margin, the biggest difference has been Greinke has pitched behind the worst defenses in baseball for most of his career with some of the worst relievers in baseball sabotaging his ERA as well. (that isn't likely to change as a Brewer).
  24. I'd certainly be happier with this result if I believed that the Red Sox, Rays, Royals and Indians were playing to their talent levels. I still think we have major disadvantages in the interleague schedule which means this poor start could easily sink us for the entire year. In terms of projected wins, how much harder do you think the Brewers interleague schedule is relative to the Reds or Cards? Before the season it was the in the order of 2 or 3 wins. Now that things have gone the way they have I would have to guess it is more like 1 or 2 wins depending on how bad the Twins really are and how good the Indians really are etc.
