  1. His strike outs are down and his walks are up, he isn't chasing more than in the past, so it isn't like he has looked lost at the plate or anything. He just isn't hitting the ball as hard this season. My guess is it is a timing thing. Not a problem just starting Thames more until things work out though, that is a completely reasonable path to fixing this issue. You have depth for a reason.
  2. Except his contact rate and K% wasn't changed in 2018 in a meaningful way so what you suggest probably simply isn't true, he actually got better against fastballs than he was in previous years. The data size is way too small this year to make any comments. The only real change in his game in 2018 is he started to struggle with offspeed pitches more than he ever has. He also saw a career low percentage of those pitches last year so the sample was tiny. Braun's problem in 2018 was simple babip and nothing else. I know people want some different answer and hate that response. But I drafted Braun in fantasy and I spent a good hour pouring over stats looking at every tiny detail and there just isn't anything there. He got much worse results than he should have and that just happens some seasons. In almost every way 2018 was Braun's best year from a hitting standpoint since 2015. The only way it wasn't was the number of PA and the actual results. The skills were as good as they had been in years.
  3. They went that way in the postseason because they had no hope of winning with the traditional path. You still want the traditional path if you can obtain it. Same with the Ray's last year, they went weird because they had a lack of healthy starters. Same with the A's, everyone got hurt so they went a different path. What the Brewers did late last year was driven by the fact they had no pitchers who could reliably go more than 5 innings in a game, not because it is the smart way to run your team. They adapted to their roster and they should do the same this season.
  4. Braun's struggles on the year have nothing to do with launch angle, it has all been about plate control. He is barrelling the ball well, he has a good launch angle, he is hitting the ball hard, he is just striking out too much and not taking any walks.
  5. This is no different than the Phillies sending Pivetta down who has a much longer track record of success. When a guy is this terrible you can't just keep sending him out there. This makes complete sense.
  6. He can pitch like complete garbage and not give up a run in 3 straight games and he is trusted, even if it makes no sense. The actual skills a player is showing matters very little, the results are what matters even if it makes no sense. There is no logic involved here.
  7. K% starts to mean something after 60 PA. BB% after 120. They are some of the faster ones to stabilize.
  8. Depends on what the defensive metrics think of him. I know fans think he is bad defensively but most metrics think he is above average. I'm sure the team can evaluate that stuff better than we can. There is a mutual option for 2020.
  9. He is active so I'd assume if they have a big lead he'll get into the game to get his feet wet. Didn't hear anything specific about it though.
  10. Judging bullpens off of such small samples is very hard. Dig into the stats and Guerra has been pretty awful, Barnes has been the second best RP on the team. Albers, Barnes and Hader all have sub 3 component ERA stats so they are certainly doing the job at the end of games. Williams, Claudio and Guerra have all been bad so far this year. Wilson and Anderson are sort of in the middle.
  11. I dropped him for Franmil Reyes so it will be my "fault" too. (shallow league so Braun is marginal)
  12. As bad as our pitching has been at least we didn't give up 8 runs before recording an out and 10 runs in the 1st inning like the Mets did tonight!
  13. All of his advance stats say he is doing just fine other than not taking his walks. He is barrelling the ball as much as normal, has improved his launch angle, has about the same exit velocity as usual. It is really just the K/BB which is usually more mental than anything with Braun. So I guess moving him down could help with that some.
  14. I don't really need to be confident. There is time to let it play out over the next few weeks. If Jeffress doesn't look good, if Nelson doesn't make it back then they trade for an arm around the all star break or they promote some young guys like last season. This isn't a big concern right now because there are quite a few plausible ways that it fixes itself. The only big concern I have for this team right now is how crappy the rotation has been, that is something hard to fix. If even 1 of the 3 young guys looked good I'd be more comfortable but all 3 look terrible.
  15. If Jeffress comes back and solidifies the 9th. Hader handles the 8th and sometimes the 7th I think the bullpen is plenty deep. Especially if Nelson is productive and moves one of the 3 young guys into the bullpen. Suddenly I think the bullpen is back to being a strength. Guerra, Albers and Wilson look pretty solid. Jeffress, Hader, Guerra, Wilson, Burnes, Albers is a productive bullpen to me. Obviously Jeffress shoulder could be an issue all season and Nelson could flame out and then they probably need to add an arm or even two.
  16. Probably not April 15th. April stats mean very little in the big picture of baseball other than the Wins and Losses sticking with you all year obviously. It isn't until May that everyone starts to really come into their own skills. If you take a baseball season and chop off April and September you get a better picture of a player than using the full season imo. Those two months are just complete outliers.
  17. Have you ever caught and had someone throw a fastball when you’re expecting some sort of off-speed? My guess is that’s what happened. So it is a common thing for a professional catcher to have happen. ok, thanks for the insight. Yes it is. It is going to happen at least a dozen times for the Brewers this year, most likely more than that.
  18. Sure if everything is smooth but if Wilson had struggled that inning, Carpenter came up so we had to use Claudio suddenly we are in that situation. Now that Wilson got through that inning with only 12 pitches and can pitch into the next one it is a lot less likely. It was a completely plausible thought though. The middle starter gets used in these situations by teams when they have these back to back super short starts like this. It isn't some sort of shocking statement.
  19. Think there’s about zero chance of that. I wouldn't say that. Albers is already used, Anderson is probably not available after yesterday. Barnes went 2 yesterday so at best can pitch 1. Guerra pitched 2 of the past 3 days including a 2 IP game, so at best has 1 IP in him. They would probably prefer not to use either of them. So we are really trying to get through 5 innings with Claudio, Hader, Wilson and Petricka. There is a decent chance a starter may have to face someone. Davies and Chacin pitched too recently. Woodruff was already used as a PH. That really just leaves Burnes as the emergency guy here.
  20. To be fair though the Brewers may very well have the hardest difficulty of pitching of any team on the season. We have faced nothing but above average offenses and many of them are absolutely top end offenses.
  21. The 2 strike bunt is just idiotic even for a pitcher unless it is like a .025 AVG lifetime guy. Just bad decision making there.
  22. Yeah in video games that were allowed to use player names they still had a goofy fill in name for Bonds.
  23. Not good. What speeds was he throwing last season? His normal fastball is like 94. Radar guns are really unreliable in the minors though so hard to rely on it though it is still unsettling.
