  1. Teams have already shed more than that by not paying for mediocre old players, it is a fair compromise.
  2. There is no young in this equation, he is already on the wrong side of the aging curve.
  3. How on EARTH are we making this declaration right now? I don't agree that he moves better than Shaw...but you're talking about poor defense at 2nd either way. I think if you actually read my post you would see that I agree with you. You can make a strong case that playing either of them at 2B is a mistake and I get it, but there really is no case to suggest that Shaw is somehow way ahead of Moustakas at the position.
  4. You named one good pitcher in here and he wasn't even good last season.
  5. I know someone said the opposite earlier but I will disagree, the Cardinals bullpen is their weakness at least to start the year. Martinez is hurt, Reyes hasn't show anything yet and Hicks walks everyone he faces. I like our odds the longer this game goes. Also Moustakas is better than Shaw at 2B regardless of how things have gone today, he moves better and he rotates better on throws. It may be an iffy move but making Shaw the 2B doesn't make it any better.
  6. Especially if I have to listen to it with these 2 morons calling the game. How unprofessional can you get.
  7. If you look at expected wOBA Braun was still elite last season, there is no way a reasonable person wants Gamel starting over him except for the fact he needs days off to stay healthy.
  8. The umpiring crew is going out of their way to prove we need the robot umps, especially the guy behind the plate. Kicking Thames out I don't mind too much except for the fact that Bader did the exact same thing with his bat earlier and wasn't kicked.
  9. One sounds like he's in a constant state of inebriation. Ahh so everyone gets them. Wasn't sure since I don't live in Wisconsin anymore if it was just me.
  10. I will also say that I have to listen to the Cardinals announcers on TV and they are just awful. Sounds like two ex players who haven't really said anything useful and are big cheerleaders.
  11. With how high stress these pitches have been and how many per inning I would guess they PH for Peralta this inning and ask Anderson to give them length.
  12. It's almost like you're new to this message board... These in-game threads are where people can react to the game in real-time and people - generally - realize it's just emotion and not a well-thought out post. This is literally message board 101 stuff. It didn't used to be like this. It has gotten so bad I tend to avoid the in game threads because it is just people bellyaching about stuff that they generally aren't even right about. Gets really old.
  13. These 6th and 7th innings are going to be scary for a bit. Maybe this year they can play a game that isn't close during them, seemed like they never did last year.
  14. Wong has like a career .600 OPS against the rest of the league and just kills the Brewers. Ok just how it feels I guess, actual stats don't agree~.
  15. That was the proper call. Doesn't matter where the ball is hit, if the ball should have easily been caught by an infielder it is an infield fly.
  16. Armando Galarraga's perfect game blown by a horrible call by the umpire. There were multiple awful strike/ball calls last year in the Dodgers series that cost us a trip to the World Series, I'd have to go back and rewatch it to point out the most painful one, but that umpiring was terrible. Same kind of officiating that has Duke still in the tournament right now and the same reason Duke beat the Badgers in the finals as they swallowed the whistle over and over as Duke just pummeled the Badgers players.
  17. 4 vs STL 2-2 Evenly matched teams 3 @ Cin 2-1 Reds being way overrated. 3 vs Chi 2-1 Cubs won't make the playoffs this year. 3 @ LAA 1-2 Angels are better than people think. 3 @ LAD 1-2 3 vs STL 2-1 4 vs LAD 2-2 3 @ STL 2-1 3 @ NYM 2-1 2 vs Col 1-1 17-14
  18. You all are listing a lot of DH's as comps, he most likely won't have that luxury (though he may). The aging curves have also gotten less friendly to older players in recent seasons. There is very little chance they don't regret this deal for at least 1 or 2 years. They have to hope the other 3-4 years makes up for it. Not an awful deal but certainly a risky one.
  19. Maybe but we Don’t know that. Stearns has signed a guy like fields and Wilson each year he has been here and it has worked out each year. Nothing wrong with improving the pen especially with Corey and JJ possibly being on the IL to start the season. The longer this drags on, the more likely you are probably right though. Well I did say probably. The way the roster spots work out just suggests to me that they aren't going to add yet another guy. Knebel and Jeffress both could easily still pitch this season, the roster is getting very full.
  20. Yes, because there has been no pain. At no point has anyone said his elbow was sore. You are just assuming this when it likely isn't true. Read mcCalvys column it’s on mlb.com says Knebel complained of discomfort to brewers Discomfort is not pain. I have discomfort in my foot right now, it isn't sore at all.
  21. Yes, because there has been no pain. At no point has anyone said his elbow was sore. You are just assuming this when it likely isn't true.
  22. We simply do not know that. They say he has been pitching with this for a while and it probably feels just like it always has. The lowered velocity is where the concern came up, not actual pain.
  23. Jeffress and Knebel were not used more than most other RPs in the 2nd half last season. Do a simple sort of IP and G in the 2nd half by RP and they are right in the middle of a huge clump of players with similar usage. Hader's usage is also very similar to other longer RP guys in that list. They pitched deeper into the playoffs which can certainly be a concern. We don't know what is up with Jeffress yet and Knebel has been pitching with this injury for a while now which is why they didn't think much of it at first (no they weren't lying to you). They still don't know if something got worse or what the extent of the injury is, probably because they need the swelling to go down completely before they can get a good look at it. This is the same junk most teams are going through and go through every season to start the year. It just happens that it is two important RP for us. The Angels have it worse than us, the Dodgers probably do too, the A's have it worse if its Olson's hamate, the Braves have 3 guys they expected to be in their rotation hurt already, the Yankees have 2 of their starters down, their CF on the mend, their 1B with a bad elbow and their 2nd best RP injured. This is spring it is just how things work.
  24. I think this signing probably means Kimbrel was asking for too much or too many years.
