  1. Well they would have to find tests for the steroids that don't have them pretty much or they could just ignore steroids like basketball and football do and hope people just stop talking about it.
  2. It could be that he is so worried about swinging at that bad pitch that he is committing to the good pitch later than normal and missing it. He does seem to be checking his swings a ton. Whatever is going on I don't much like it!
  3. I would think Escobar has more value but if we were to trade for a SP we would need to make room for a SP so Parra would likely be part of the deal. Of course he'd probably go into a catatonic state and be unable to pitch if he were traded since he is so mentally weak that he can't throw strikes, if he were just a mental giant he would never throw a ball out of the strike zone again.
  4. He isn't throwing guys out this season which is where pretty much all of his value came from last year, at this point I'd like to see Rivera in there for Bush and for one other guy.
  5. Hart is swinging at low and away less than he did last season, he is missing the ball right down the middle way more than last season. I don't know if it is just a slump or he has lost bat speed or what though.
  6. It is very frustrating watching this offense right now, wainwright isn't throwing strikes at all and we are swinging away at every bad pitch. I'm sure tomorrow we'll hear about how Wainwright was great but any pitcher in baseball would be destroying us with these sad approaches at the plate.
  7. Like the Mets lineup tonight Pagan, Castillo, Wright, Sheffield, Tatis, Martinez, Santos, Martinez, Hernandez. That is just sad.
  8. Because Gerut is a better player than Catalanotto would be my answer.
  9. How about having one of your players do backflips onto the field, that can't be classy. (I say that as someone who thinks Smith is one of the classier guys to have played the game btw).
  10. Looking at his swing% numbers it still looks like his basic plate approach has improved over last season and the dip in power and extra pop up and lower contact rate on balls in zone ups are more likely a cold streak or maybe even being too tentative at the plate now rather than a sign of him being finished. I don't like including the second half of last year but not the first half though, it doesn't seem relevant given the hot month he started the year with, if you go out of your way to make a player look bad you can lose the big picture sometimes. He was great the first 28 games and lost the last 15 games(.489 OPS) so does a 15 game cold streak mean much for this season? I don't know. I'd still like to see Gerut play a little bit more, especially since Hart said he wore down last year.
  11. 15-8 so far, I'm glad that I was wrong already!
  12. You are crazy. Reds have a lot of young talent but that rotation is going to fall apart at some point and the offense really isn't all that good.
  13. He has a career OPS of .792 and that is while protecting him vs bad matchups. He has a career ERA+ against of 96 going into tonight, Bush has an 102. If anything comparing them is a minor insult to Dave Bush as Baker has had one useful season and it was highly luck based.
  14. And to Crede and Cuddyer. The Twins only have 2 good offensive players and they are Mauer and Morneau, when other players on that team beat you there is nothing to be proud of. We got beat by one real pitcher as well and that was Slowey. Baker isn't bad, he is basically Dave Bush and the rookie they sent at us is probably a career minor leaguer.
  15. Well when Mauer showed him the big bruise on his hand it probably made his point for him, like I said I wasnt' watching that closely but by the time the argument happened Mauer was already at 1B and the replay showed without a shadow of a doubt that he actually got hit. I fail to see how Macha not getting kicked out on a call that was painfully obvious ws correct is a big flaw.
  16. I'm confused by the idea that it was a call reversal. I wasn't watching all that closely but the runner went to 1st and the ump went out to look for a mark on his hand to confirm that he was hit even though he had called it a hit batter to begin with. It was call confirmation and not a reversal as far as I could tell. Macha didn't push it because the ball pretty obviously hit Mauer so he had no legs to stand on at all.
  17. Scary is one word for it, expected is another. Hart is a guy I hope we do not give a contract too, he just is not all that good.
  18. I agree completely, that is 3 straight series in parks we tend to be terrible at and it is a large part of why I expected us to be .500 this month, this stretch was the really nasty one. Going 5-4 in this stretch is a big positive even if losing 3 in a row to end it is a big negative.
  19. Position-by-position I think that's a higly debateable proposition, as we've debated on this board before. Thats is fine, I disagree completely as I think the Twins are a .500 team but they have home field advantage in a park that we never seem to play well in and most importatnly they are the hottest they have been all year and we couldn't buy a hit with RISP all series. These types of series are going to happen and you cant' read anything at all into them.
  20. Twins got hot and beat a better team 3 games at home, cant' lose sleep over it. Saddest part is that the Twins threw 2 mediocre pitchers at us this series and we couldn't hit them at all because the offense went cold.
  21. I would think that Hall is only playing because of Hardy being injured and Gamel being the DH today.
  22. http://www.brewcrewball.com/2009/5/23/884401/the-brewers-against-starters We are 10-8 with 7.11 R/G against pitchers making their debut since we moved to the NL. Tonight not included of course.
  23. That pretty much says it all, he made some comments about not being mentally prepared early in one season and now every single time he has a bad game he is mentally weak and will be for the next 600 innings or so I'm sure.
  24. The Padres would absolutely love getting Escobar as they have very little in the way of MI prospects. I don't think the deal is only on the table for major league ready pitching, that is just what they would prefer.
  25. I saw an article on the 'throw away' pitch when ahead in the count and it didn't seem to be a bad idea from the data they came up with. I think the reason they do it is to set up the next pitch though, not so much that they expect people to swing at it. I'm not saying anything is wrong with what Kendall does, just saying that he does the same thing with all the pitchers, it isn't just a Parra thing.
