  1. I don't think it is just an injury, he is letting juicy pitches go by for strikes and swinging at pitches even Vlad couldn't hit. Seems more mental than physical. However I'm not sure how Gwynn hitting .250 with a few walks and a bunch of weak groundouts on the infield would have changed much over what Hart gave us. Sadly that is Gwynn's upside too so I'm assuming he got hot that week.
  2. Like I said, if it is nothing serious it is no big deal. If they find something wrong then yeah it changes things. When a pitcher spikes heavily in IP arm and elbow soreness is completely normal though. As for the claim above that Sheets wasn't abused, he was towards the top of the PAP(pitcher abuse points) ratings for most of the season. Yost pushed him way harder than he should have considering he was coming off 3 partial seasons. There was absolutely no excuse for it and people were upset about it way before Sheets got elbow discomfirt. Seems like this web site expects every pitcher to go 200+ IP ever year when in reality usually less than 40 pitchers a year reach that mark. It is actually very rare to find a pitcher who can go 200+ IP even 3 years in a row these days. Here is a list of pitchers who have gone 200+ IP each of the last 3+ years. The list only has 8 names on it. If you take it to two years the list has about 15 names on it. Halladay - 3 years Santana - 5 years Webb - 5 years Buehrle - 8 years Haren - 4 years Oswalt - 5 years Vazquez - 4 years Pettitte - 4 years This year only 36 pitchers in all of baseball pitched more innings than Sheets, so just over 1 pitcher per team.
  3. Branyan is hurt and can't play the field and I'm not convinced Lamb is better than Counsell, he isn't a good fielder and he has really regressed at the plate this year. Hall certainly isn't any better vs righties. Same deal with Hart, with Kapler injured we have a pure rookie who is a bad fielder in Nelson or a player who has proven he is useless in Gwynn. I think I'd want to just hope Hart busts out of his slump instead of those options too. Sveum is hardly perfect but I don't see these particular things as huge issues, though I agree I'd have given Kendall at least one day off in there.
  4. I strongly feel that Yost is why we didn't make the playoffs last year and almost didn't this year, so cannot feel sorry for him.
  5. Depends on how Torres's velocity is. He is not a big K guy and his ERA by month has always been very erratic so the actual ERA doesn't bother me as much as why he is pitching poorly.
  6. I'd say given our roster he needs to play vs lefties and 2 of the Phillies SP will be lefties. The question is whether to go to Nelson or Gwynn vs the righties and I dunno the answer.
  7. Because even though Soup didn't give up many runs and made a couple good pitches in later innings they were killing the ball pretty much his entire start. He easily could have given up 5 or 6 ER in that game and left by the 3rd inning.
  8. Our schools get out at 2:10 on Wed for teacher meetings, score.
  9. Watching some highlights of the season on ESPN. Hawk Harrelson is the most annoying man on earth, Ron Santo is a close 2nd. I can't imagine even the fans of those teams don't dislike those guys.
  10. At my daughters birthday party at fun world for game 3, at work for game 4. Though I think I can get tickets if they go to the next round.
  11. I can't stand Schroeder but I'm glad he was happy, can't be easy to call games for a team that has been bad for so long. He just comes off as a complete boob to me spouting off nonsense and cliche most of the time.
  12. I assumed it would be Hamels, Myers, Moyer.
  13. He'd get my vote, he was clearly the best pitcher in the NL for the 130 IP he threw and if you look at the full body of work I think he was the best in baseball.
  14. I guess it depends on how he handles the playoffs. We have a lot of question marks and he doesn't have very many easy choices in who to play in what role like some of the other teams do.
  15. Yesterday I was watching on gameday and on the radio they said a ball was in the dirt but on gameday it looked like it was too high. I think sometimes it is less than reliable.
  16. Yeah I would be fine with a 5 year deal too since I think it will take 3-4 years for the innings to make him really lose it. Those big guy types dont' seem to get hurt from the big inning counts, they just wear down faster with age.
  17. I think Sabathia and Zambrano are both headed for this type of career from here on out... http://www.baseball-reference.com/h/hernali01.shtml I love what he has done for us but I hope we don't blow our load on a 7 year contract for him. I'd bet even money that 4 years into that 7 year deal we would be regretting it. I think Zambrano is already headed down the path and has seen his best years.
  18. I said it in another thread but I'd start Gwynn or Nelson against Myers and let Hart face the lefties.
  19. I never had a doubt!
  20. I'm sure Suppan will get a start unfortunately but I'd go with. Gallardo Sabathia Bush Gallardo Sabathia I just do not trust anyone other than Gallardo, Sheets or Sabathia on the road for us. Especially in that ballpark.
  21. OMG, mine was 1 minute earlier than his. All bow down to my thread, do not worship the false idol!
  22. My wife is on the field right now and she says it is just insane. Players crying, champagn everywhere etc. Kind of curious, do I need to pee my pants or was that just last year? I already untucked em.
  23. What would you like to see us do in the playoffs for rotation, lineup, bullpen etc? I would go with a rotation of Gallardo, Sabathia, Bush I would think. Go with the normal Lineup against lefties and if Hart doesn't look better against Hamels sit him against Myers since he struggles more against righties. I think I'd have to stick with Torres as the closer until he struggles and then I'd go with the hot hand who right now is McClung most likely.
  24. I don't have a problem with people not wanting to re-sign Sheets. It is the suggestion that he is going to be getting a 1 year contract that bothered me. Given his injury history there is basically no way this happens was my point.
