  1. I always feel like this is a bad stat when they compare the BAA for a pitcher. The reason lefties hit Hamels better than righties is that only the best of the best lefties even get to play against him. I still start the right handed bat over the left handed bat against him. Probably some truth in that but heavy change up lefties almost always do well against righties.
  2. Hamels is better vs righties than lefties. Maybe in the next game they should play Counsell at 3B instead of Hall.
  3. He probably figured since Yo has had that pitched called a ball about 5 times today it would be one for Hamels. Still needs to protect against it though.
  4. That wasn't an easy play by Cameron and if anything he has been underrated his whole career. The stats back up the defensive reputation completely, not like say Jeter. Heck Braun had problems with a lazy flyball because of the wind.
  5. Been watching baseball coverage all day and checking out web sites. Nobody seems to have given us a chance to win so I guess there is no pressure. I personally think the team that wins today wins the series.
  6. We apparently played above average defense on the year so we are dangerous! http://www.baseballprospe...rticle.php?articleid=8141
  7. I started mine back in 1982 in countdown for the next playoff game. Felt good to finally shave that thing, kept tripping over it.
  8. 1. Brewers 2. Rays - love young teams like this. 3. Dodgers 4. Phillies 5. Angels 6. Red Sox - boring since they have been in it so much lately 7. Cubs - Soriano and Soto drive me nuts and Zambrano is my least favorite pitcher in baseball. Rest of the team doesn't bother me. . . . 30. White Sox - My least favorite team in baseball.
  9. As long as the White Sox don't make it to the World Series I'm fine with any of the teams, even the Cubs.
  10. Because Lee's defense was bad enough it almost completely negated his offense. They would have almost been better off with a league average player in LF. Granted when you are looking at stats vs 'average' you'll get some odd results for small playtime players since a guy who plays 1 game and hits a HR ends up being better than someone who played 162 games and was below average.
  11. Statistically he is every bit as bad as Dunn and is approaching Manny territory in LF. Statistically speaking using DRS Lee rated as a -21.40 defensively in LF which is the worst season i think I've ever seen in LF. Adding offensive and defense he rated as the 21st best LF in baseball this year just slightly better than Brady Clark and behind guys like Fred Lewis and Josh Willingham.
  12. Will win - Pedroia, Lee in AL. Howard, Lincecum in the NL Should win - Sizemore, Halladay in the AL (much more difficult teams faced overall than Lee), Pujols, Sabathia in the NL (not counting the AL numbers is silly given it is a tougher league). If you are sticking to your guns and saying Sabathia can't because of the split season I'd still pick Santana over Lincecum. If Braun doesn't get hurt I 100% believe he wins the NL MVP.
  13. Parra, McClung and Bush/Suppan can all go pretty long if needed, shouldn't be an issue.
  14. Yeah I would say they still offer him arbitration for sure. It just increases the chances that he is a Brewer next year and not a Yankee or whatever. There is obviously some conflicting information here. Is it no big deal and just needs rest or is it a career threatening injury. Seems like there is a pretty huge gap between those two opinions, heh.
  15. So they knew he was hurt and Yost sent him out for 120 pitches and then 113 pitches(in only 6 innings so they were high stress pitches) and then he wasn't able to finish another start. Is this a smart game plan? I'm so glad Yost is gone.
  16. So he pitched for a month with this including being sent out for 100+ pitches twice in a row by Yost? Or is this the product of him trying to pitch through a less serious problem and injuring himself more? Good grief.
  17. The only lefties that we would pinch hit for is Nelson or Gwynn and that would mean they started a game and Hart is on the bench. I don't really see the need for a lot of RH PH.
  18. I think Hall is fine in the 2 spot against lefties. Kind of odd that they posted the lineups already though...
  19. I don't see how such a small sample would be meaningful especially considering he was struggling when he was moved to leadoff. For his career he has a .255/.342/.453/.794 line leading off vs a .250/.340/.448/.788 line overall. For 2008 it is .204/.283/.241/.524 leading off in 13 games vs a .243/.331/.477/.809 overall I don't really think he fits the mold of a leadoff hitter but neither does anyone else on the team. The only player with a reasonable OBP in the entire lineup is Fielder. The best leadoff hitter on the team is probably Weeks but I don't disagree with those who think that leading off messes with Weeks head some.
  20. my preseason prediction on BPro is Indians over Sox, Yankees over Angels, Indians over Angels. Mets over Cubs, Dodgers over Brewers, Mets over dodgers, Indians over mets. Since that won't happen I'll go um... Angels over Red Sox Rays over White Sox Rays over Angels Phillies over Brewers Dodgers over Cubs Dodgers over Phillies Rays over Dodgers
  21. That was very nice razzzorsharp.
  22. I'm 100% sure it would be Suppan, Bush, Sabathia, Gallardo, Suppan or something silly like that if Yost were still manager. Let's just hope Sveum gives the ball to the best players instead of the ones he is most loyal to.
  23. I'd have to add poor defense probably does cost us more in a close game and we are the worst defensive team in the playoffs.
  24. They did a study on playoff baseball and found that the importance of the HR goes up in a small run scoring environment and the effect of bunts etc mostly goes down. So I disagree with the small ball thing.
  25. I'm using PAP because it is better than anything out there, it isn't innings that matter it is pitches thrown and pitches per specific inning etc. Sheets also averaged 6.7 IP per start before the last 2 starts and 6.95 IP per start in his first 16 starts before he started to wear down, so stop saying 6 1/3. From March 31st through July 9th Sheets pitched 18 games and averaged 105 pitches per game(including a 60 pitch game he left early with a blister so for the rest he averaged 108) . In Sept he threw games with 120 and 113 pitches back to back even though Yost said his elbow had been bothering him all month. Does it make any sense to do that? To go year by year the last 3 years Sheets has thrown 2298, 1569, 2249 pitches. Is there really a big surprise that as he approached 3000 pitches his arm started to get sore? He was on pace to throw almost as many pitches this year as the last 2 years combined. Yost should have been babying him some and he didn't. Yes Gallardo should not go 200 IP next year if they can avoid it. Next year they need to have a quick chain with Gallardo to try to keep his innings down whenever they can. When the team is winning 4-1 and Gallardo has gone 7 innings and 98 pitches he should be pinch hit for as an example. Situations like that with Sheets this year is where Yost kept him out there not just 1 more inning but 2 more.
