  1. Machado is always like that. He'll also take his back hand off of the bat and let his follow through hit the catcher in the head and pretend it isn't on purpose. He does it a dozen+ times a year. Wouldn't surprise me to see him do it to Kratz later in the game.
  2. Yeah so far so good. Buehler's location has also been pretty bad so if he slows down a little bit as he gets deeper into the game it could make him hittable. Must be nice being able to throw the ball middle middle and either catch them guessing or just blow past guys though. Wish we had a starter who could do that.
  3. Yeah the Dodgers are just a horrible matchup for Chacin. If we find a way to win this game it is huge.
  4. This isn't really how baseball works. High payroll is not a free win at all in the playoffs. If we lose this playoff round it has almost nothing to do with payroll.
  5. In this case it isn't opinion though. There is the way the game is actually played and there is basically back seat driving. With 2 outs and 2 strikes the runner on 1st is supposed to go all out for 2nd base on contact, they are not supposed to be watching the ball off of the bat. That is how baseball is actually played. He can glance back and pick up the ball after he hits full speed but if he looked back right away he was not playing the game properly. By the time he could look back the ball was on top of him. There are plenty of times people disagree with me on these forums and I'm fine with it because the game has a ton of gray areas in it. This was just one of those times where if you actually understand the game of baseball there is no way you complain about what happened.
  6. I would imagine the 2-4 inning outing is going to become a very common thing and the 5+ inning out is going to be much rarer in the future. The 1 IP outing will also be rarer though.
  7. Kershaw really isn't the scary force he used to be. I think our odds of winning 2 home games are pretty high, like 50% or better, so as long as we win 1 on the road we are still in a good position. I'm way more worried about the series not making it back to Milwaukee than I am losing once we get back.
  8. This makes no sense at all. Winning 2 at home a tall task but winning 2 on the road is not? I think you usually want to consider these things by who has home field advantage. Assume you win all of your home games and lose the road games and you are in a good spot. We started out with home field advantage, they have now taken it away from us. If we win one on the road we take it back.
  9. Well the hit he gave up was only hit 82.1 MPH and only had a 55% HP. It was pretty lucky. The HR was a mistake which I think he admitted in there. The Dodgers had two hits where the probability was 15% or lower. Single game results are just so worthless for judging pitchers so it is hard to read too much into such a short outing.
  10. This game was lost when Burnes couldn't get an out in the 7th. It really looked like the plan was Burnes for a couple and then the rest of the bullpen can finish off 1 or 2. Jeffress was more of a plan B that we had to go to. Having said that, it was probably a mistake on Counsell's part to go to him. He hasn't looked great and he threw a lot of pitches yesterday. They are going to have to rely on Guerra and Soria whether they trust them or not. This whole heavy bullpen thing only works if you are using all of the bullpen.
  11. Hader pitching back to back ever is avoided when possible, but he has pitched consecutive days after throwing 24 during the regular season. In the NLCS in extreme circumstances I'd bet very heavily that 2 innings and 28 pitches doesn't make Hader unavailable the next day especially with a day off following. He did that once only and it was rare for him to not get a day off after even 20 pitches. There is no logical reason to think he would be available after 2 innings and 28 pitches. It just wasn't happening.

  13. I'm fairly certain he would still have been available tomorrow after 2 innings and 28 pitches. There is almost no chance he would have been. I like the decision to go 3 if it were say 3-1, at 5-1 I think they should have pulled him after 1.
  14. Braun stole 2nd for no reason one game and got caught I seem to remember.
  15. Astros had a ton more injuries and the Yankees got to face the Orioles like 19 times which pads your stats. It really isn't close, the Yankees are a distant 3rd in this discussion.
  16. I will say that when you look at the Yankees rotation and the Red Sox rotation neither one of them makes sense to be a 100+ win team. The Sox bullpen is downright bad. The Yankees are a poor defensive team that strikes out a ton. These teams have way more holes than you expect a 100+ win team to have.
  17. I can't see them starting off with anyone but Chacin, it wouldn't make any type of sense to go with anyone else. He made all his starts during the season, has been as good as anyone else and will be on full rest. It will probably go Chacin, Miley, Bullpen, Someone, Chacin, Miley.
  18. Houston is way better than the Red Sox or Yankees, not even close to the same level. I think I'd want to face the Yankees. Their starting pitching may be even worse than ours and we seem to handle power bats pretty well. Astros have by far the best rotation and they have the best bullpen of those 3 teams. The pitchers the Astros had to leave off their roster are better than what Boston kept. Boston and Houston probably tie for defense with the Yankees falling a good bit behind. Boston gets a big advantage in baserunning over the other teams. The Yankees just fall short everywhere except for power in the lineup.
  19. All of the teams in the AL East went into the season trying to compete. In the AL Central the Tigers, White Sox and Royals are all in rebuilds and fit this narrative. None of the teams in the AL West went into the season trying to tank. 3 teams in the AL didn't make an effort to win. It just happens that way more than 3 teams were just awful. In the NL the Marlins are really the only team that was tanking this year. The Reds pitching was even worse than expected and the Padres spent a lot of money in the off season.
  20. Pretty sure the Dodgers will score in at least 2 innings this series.
  21. This is Brock Holt you are talking about, he needs every advantage he can get~.
  22. The Nationals massively under-performed their talent, the Cubs did not. For the life of me I can't understand why the Nationals did not win 95+ given the roster they had.
