  1. The Rockies bullpen is very deep, they have 3 or 4 more arms that are better than going to Senzatela imo. The longer this game goes the bigger the advantage is for the Rockies.
  2. Heyward is so bad it is just funny looking at the contract they gave him. Add in Darvish and Chatwood and how much talent they gave up in trades the past few years and the Cubs really pissed away the huge advantage they had in the division. I caught a lot of flack for this earlier in the season but the Cubs went from a team I thought would reign supreme in the division for at least 6 or 7 years to one on equal footing with the top teams very fast. They are a really good team but they do not stand out above the other very good teams in the game at this point.
  3. That was a strike for Lester at least 5 times tonight.
  4. The Rockies pitching is much more appealing to me than potentially having to face three formidable lefties (Lester, Quintana, Hamels). Our bullpen can shut down the Colorado offense, no problem. Not sure I agree. Freeland was very clearly the best pitcher in this game. Lester got hit very hard and had the ump working heavily in his favor all game long. Marquez vs Quintana is probably a wash for me. I would take Hamels over Senzatela or Gray though. Rockies have an advantage in the bullpen right now consider the Cubs are missing a few guys.
  5. He was definitely out, you could see the glove move when the tag hit his arm. The Rockies have to be so frustrated with the strike zone here. That is at least the 7th or 8th ball called a strike just off the plate now. I mean they have to adjust to it but it is so annoying.
  6. Typical Cubs this year. They had by far the lowest fielding percentage against. Teams just love to play their worst against them for whatever reason.
  7. That picture is awesome.
  8. For reference here is last seasons playoff schedule for the first couple of days. National League Division Series Friday, Oct. 6, Cubs at Nationals, Game 1, 7:30 p.m. ET, TBS Friday, Oct. 6, WC winner at Dodgers, Game 1, 10:31 p.m. ET, TBS Saturday, Oct. 7, Cubs at Nationals, Game 2, 5:30 p.m. ET, TBS Saturday, Oct. 7, WC winner at Dodgers, Game 2, 9 p.m. ET, TBS American League Division Series Thursday, Oct. 5, Red Sox at Astros, Game 1, 4 p.m. ET, FS1 or MLBN Thursday, Oct. 5, WC winner at Indians, Game 1, 7:30 p.m. ET, FS1 or MLBN Friday, Oct. 6, Red Sox at Astros, Game 2, 2 p.m. ET, FS1 or MLBN Friday, Oct. 6, WC winner at Indians, Game 2, 5 p.m. ET, FS1 or MLBN
  9. Unfortunately Sheets 2004 is ruined by the fact he was never the same afterwards. They pushed him too many extra innings for no good reason and it cost him down the line. I do not miss the people in charge of the rotation in the mid 2000's. They abused the heck out of pitchers on bad teams for no good reasons and it led to a lot injuries.
  10. I'm not going to pretend that Brewer's fans wouldn't do this, but I found it quite annoying that 3 or 4 Cubs fans were shown cussing out the umpire when this happened. Even after he corrected the count they were just screaming at him like he purposely tried to screw the Cubs over.
  11. I am now an Indians fan. They are the one team that we would get home field advantage over if we can make it to the World Series.
  12. I can't think of any reason Thames makes it, other than that I mostly agree with what others have posted. Broxton is a more useful version of Thames given how left handed this team is and the fact he can pinch run and be a defensive replacement.
  13. He should face Murphy and Zobrist as they both prefer to face righties. If he gets both of them I'd leave him for Baez as well since Rizzo is the really scary bat. I totally get it if they got to Jeffress though. Hard to argue with the guy who had a 1.29 ERA for you in the closer role.
  14. Could have really used 1 more run there. Hader has been pretty home run prone this past month. Would love to have a 3 run lead instead of 2.
  15. There was nothing exceptional about that tag. That is just obnoxious that they have to talk about it.
  16. Knebel and Soria both can pitch back to back days so this is fine. I'd imagine if it is 1-1 still next inning we see Burnes for the next few innings and only use Jeffress if we take a lead. Then tomorrow we have Soria, Knebel, Hader for 2 IP and Jeffress for 2 IP available. We can cover at least 6 innings if we lose today. You really can't use Hader in this game while tied and that is really the big difference. He is the guy that likely would have been the 6th and 7th and we couldn't afford to use him today.
  17. I don't really have a problem with how Counsell has managed his bullpen so far. I think he has pretty much managed it exactly the way it should be. The only way we really lose today is if we burn our bullpen and lose the game. That is such an awful outcome that you can't risk it, especially this early in the game.
  18. And by scared you mean smart? There is no reason to be going to your best guys in this game when it is tied.
  19. If the game is tied I keep Chacin in but he only faces Murphy if the bases are empty. We are in that awkward stage of the game where you don't want to blow your big RPs if you can avoid it in case we play tomorrow. Another inning out of Chacin would be huge. Of course I'd rather we score 2 or 3 here and not have to worry about blowing the good RPs.
  20. I'm not a fan and it has nothing to do with being a Cub. He is just too much of a showboat, those kind of guys really bug me.
  21. I tend to support this but my daughter who asked to stay home I said no to because outside of win or go home playoff games she doesn't pay any attention to the team. I can support keeping a huge fan home but not one who doesn't really care for 95% of the season.
  22. I will just put this out here randomly. The first time the Brewers made the playoffs since the 1982 season everyone was super pumped up. My friends dad who I watched the first game with had a different opinion though, he said since we got in on the wild card we didn't earn our way into the playoffs and no matter how far we went it really didn't mean anything. These games didn't count in his mind because we didn't win the division. For all those people posting how they don't count a wild card game loss as making the playoffs, you sound as silly as he did back in the day. Don't cheapen the experience and pretend that the wild card game doesn't matter. No matter what happens from this point on this team had a highly successful season and should be celebrated for it. I hope we go really deep into the playoffs, it would be an awesome experience. But the team has been a success no matter what at this point and yes the wild card game is a playoff just like every other playoff game.
  23. I'd start Anderson with a very short leash. When he is on he can go a strong 5 innings or so and if he isn't hitting his spots you can tell very early usually.
  24. His September 5th start against us was nothing great. His August 14th start against us was downright bad. His June 11th start was 6 IP with 2 ER but he still walked 2 and gave up 5 hits. For this year at least his dominance of us was basically 2 starts in early April when we weren't hitting very well.
