  1. I think Jeffress has more potential than Inman personally.
  2. While I agree with your opinion people on this forum really hate being told to relax so I'm going to guess there is some backlash coming.
  3. If we wanted to follow the Twins model we'd stop drafting defense defficient power hitters. I think we are trying to follow the Brewer model.
  4. I think a lot of our players are worn out and I know someone will come and say but winning teams don't rest their players etc etc. Young players tend to wear down as the year goes on, especially guys who have never played a full season in the majors which is almost our entire team.
  5. It does excite me personally. Inman was not going to have a spot in our rotation in the next few years in my opinion. That means he probably ends up in our bullpen and he's wasted. The pick we get when Linebrink walks is likely to be as good a player as Inman only whoever it is should be hitting the majors around the time we are having problems signing some of our current young players. This is just pushing a prospect back to a more useful timeframe for the team. I still don't like the Linebrink part of the trade very much, losing Inman is not going to make me lose any sleep though. I also don't think we win the division this season even with the trade and if we do take the wild card I dont' know that linebrink is the key to going deeper into the playoffs.
  6. No, he has pretty much pitched exactly like last season. 4.93 K/9 2006, 4.74 K/9 2007 3.27 BB/9 2006, 3.25 BB/9 2007 46.8% GB 2006, 44.6% GB 2007 4.76 FIP 2006, 4.56 FIP 2007 The differences are in his BABIP and LOB% .301 BABIP 2006, .325 BABIP 2007 72.3% LOB 2006, 68.5% LOB 2007 He's given up a few more hits than he usually does which over a sample this size is probably just luck, he's given up more runs than normal which again could just be luck or could be our bullpen. He has thrown the ball almost exactly like he did last year. He's throwing strikes at the same rate, he's walking at the same rate, he's getting around the same number of GB's.
  7. Suppan hasn't pitched any differentthan I expected, his ERA is a bit high but well ERA is a junk stat anyway so it doesn't really bother me. His other numbers are exactly in line with what I'd expect out of him. We basically payed a lot of money for the Cardinals defense which is the only thing that made Suppan look good in the first place. Melvin did a really good job building a team from the scrap heap but I'm questioning his moves for 'vets'. Suppan was a bad signing simple as that, we overpayed for a guy who is our #6 best starter and with Vargas winning so many games I guess our #7 best starter. I don't mind paying so we didn't have to rush guys but the contract is a good $10M too high. The linebrink deal is pretty iffy too and thats from someone who didn't like Inman as much as most.
  8. I don't know it, just like I dont' know what any prospect is going to do, but that seems to be what multiple scouts think of him so I'm going to trust them. I'm not even sure I like this deal because I don't trust linebrink but I just don't think Inman was our #1 prospect much less an untouchable that others think he was. I think Garrison and thatcher are fringe major leaguers at best so they don't really matter at all to me. Question is will Inman outproduce Linebrink + a draft pick. I dunno if he will or not but I doubt its going to be a huge win or loss for either side.
  9. maybe he will maybe he won't. He profiles as a 4th or 5th starter and not a stud though, of course that san diego stadium turns scrubs into all stars so I'm sure he'll do fine for them.
  10. The simple reason we lost tonight is they had bases loaded and got a hit, we twice had big scoring chances and got outs. Not really sure why you are looking to blame the manager for that one and not the players. The difference between the Cubs and our team right now is they are getting hits every single time they get a runner on and we simply cannot buy a hit with a runner in scoring position in most cases. Don't get me wrong, Yost is doing some pretty bad managing at times but the hit and run and the lineup aren't really why we lost this game. Hardy is probably the worst hitter on the team right now and Braun is going to need a day off eventually. The difference between winning and losing a close game like that is usually just a key hit or out somewhere and that was the case in this one. They got a 3 run double with the bases loaded, we got an out, game over.
  11. Scouts considered Gallardo a future ace, they consider Inman a future #4 or #5 starter, agree or disagree but thats the simple truth. Inman is a B+ level prospect and Gallardo is an A according to those who know baseball.
  12. That is a dangerous comment though, Inman doesn't have anywhere near the upside of Gallardo, his body isn't the same and his stuff isn't as good.
  13. On July 16th which is less than half a month ago Linebrink had a 2.55 ERA, so don't throw around his ERA as the reason to not like him.
  14. I don't know, I'd probably downgrade each of those by 1 level. Inman = B+, Thatcher = B, Garrison = C. We'll get back a B most likely if LInebrink walks, a C isn't worth worrying about. That leaves a B+ for a RP on the stretch run. I like the idea of the trade, I just don't know if Linebrink was the right person to be getting back. I don't think anyone at any level of scouting believes Inman is going to be the next Gallardo though, I don't think thats a fair comparison. I could just as easily call him the next Ben Hendrickson and say its a great deal, but that wouldn't be fair either.
  15. I think you'd probably need larger sample sizes for this to really mean much. In the case of Miller vs Estrada it wouldn't surprise me that Miller does better since he's known most of these pitchers longer than Estrada. In the case of Padres vs Cubs the Cubs got hot and are winning all the 1 run games, I doubt you can blame barrett for that. SDP has a really rough patch of their schedule recently.
  16. Looking at his splits it seems he had a decent April, May and June and then just collapsed in July. 8.2 IP, 9.35 ERA, 3 HR, 4 BB, 4 K. I don't mind losing the guys we did at all but I should hope there is more to this than just Linebrink, maybe a minor league player or cash that wasn't mentioned?
  17. Most scouts seemed to think Inman would hit a wall before he made it to the majors and so far that appears to be the case this season. I'm not all that upset about the loss personally. I'm not so sure Linebrink is the same pitcher he was two years ago either though.
  18. Hall wasn't bad at all in CF in June so I don't see why you'd say he's less than a full OF.
  19. OPS by inning with league average in () 1).806 (.765) 2).710 (.711) 3).754 (.720) 4).843 (.761) 5).759 (.760) 6).899 (.794) 7).770 (.738) 8) .690 (.731) 9).733 (.666) Not sure I see anything too wierd in there. We are actually doing decently in the 9th inning but pretty bad in the 8th.
  20. Phillips was brought up in 2002 and is 26 years old, he has a career OPS of .709 with a career OBP of .301. He is an extremely streaky hitter and just like last year I imagine his OPS will drop down, he's still mostly living off his big hot streak this year. Weeks was brought up in 2003 and is 25 years old, he has a career OPS of .737 with a career OBP of .344. He has suffered through injuries that have suppressed his stats and his numbers are mostly low because he is coming off a horrible stretch of baseball. Assuming Weeks gets healthy its a no brainer for me, Weeks will be the better player.
  21. Teix is a very good 1B and he seems to move pretty well, wouldn't surprise me if he's better than Lee in the OF... not that its saying that much.
  22. Oh, Pence getting hurt(and Oswalt for that matter) means the Astros go into sale mode almost for sure, I'd assume that means Jennings gets traded since he's not quite right since the injury. Probably someone like Lidge goes too.
  23. He's only batting 5th because Hall is hurt at least. I still don't get it but thats better than when he was batting 5th earlier in the year!
  24. 100 at bats to cool off in what? AVG? Lets say Braun hits .280 over those 100 AB's, only gets like 15 R, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 1 SB or something, his numbers are still way better than Pences. The only thing that makes these guys even close is the fact Pence started a month before Braun. When you factor in the intangibles of lineup and team quality etc I just don't think Pence was the biggest competition. Braun isn't going to lose it to another pure hitter, he's going to lose it based on defense or pitching in my opinion.
  25. No its not, lets be real here and just look at the stats. Pence 42 R, 12 HR, 45 RBI, 8 SB, .330 AVG, .919 OPS Braun 43 R, 16 HR, 43 RBI, 8 SB, .345 AVG, 1.062 OPS Looks pretty close until you factor in the over 100 extra AB's pence has. Braun is blowing Pence away in this race, was considered more of a hitting prospect, is in a better lineup and is on a better team. Pence is not really the concern for Braun, a pitcher most likely is the biggest concern or someone like Tulo who has the big defensive reputation.
